So, so many things. A few highlights (and, no, I'm not proud of these): Walked along the top of the wall of a bridge over a railway. Climbed three storeys of scaffolding. Tried to pee in my friend's dining room, thinking I was in the bathroom, and then shouted 'don't patronise me!' at my husband when he tried to tell me I…

I carried it well (it's true I am quite muscular, but there's only so much fat a girl can 'carry well'). I had an active job, with heavy lifting, and got at least some exercise (I could walk for miles - up and down mountains if they got in my way). Oh and of course, a dodgy metabolism!

Oh and the veggie stuff - the stupid questions. 'How do you know vegetables don't feel pain?' 'What would happen to all the animals if we didn't eat them?'

Lorry driver at work who I hadn't seen for a few months noticed I'd lost weight, complimented me on it, but then told me that 'people like us' (him with his massive belly and me with, well, I don't know) aren't meant to be thin and that I shouldn't lose much more weight.

Probably not much help to you in your quest for a varied diet, but Friday night is pizza night, assuming I can hoard enough calories today!
-
Congratulations, that's wonderful! Today must feel like it's all been worth it!

Makes sense to me. The Cortisol article is fascinating and well-written for layperson like me. I'll try to remember it next time I start to over think and over stress!

I top my calories up with ice cream.

I'm 5'6.5", started at 215lbs, and lost over 20lbs in the first three months. That included the Christmas period where I maintained for a couple of weeks. I don't do a lot of extra exercise but I do have an active job (and am set at that in my MFP settings), so my calorie target was a bit higher than 1200 for a 2lbs per…

I love my geeky, socially awkward husband. I didn't think that was necessarily what I wanted until I met him.

My father-in-law. Whenever we go to hug/kiss hello/goodbye we never seem to co-ordinate it right. If we miss the kiss on the cheek, I follow through with just the hug, but he almost always ends up kissing my neck too... shudder.

That's great - congratulations!

In for future reference. I'm only halfway there, but I'm more scared about not maintaining than about not achieving the weight loss itself!
-
Hope this works! The photo that gave me a reality check 215lbs: and 32lbs down at 183lbs (I'm just past half-way to my goal weight):

39 this year and won't be changing my mind. Used to be made to feel like I was 'unnatural' to think like this (not least by my husband's family). Genuinely used to think there was something broken within me. Now, I'm totally at peace with it. My sister very kindly had a child recently, which has reinforced my confidence in…

Oh and take pictures and measurements to compare to in future. Sometimes weight loss stalls, and it's helpful to have some non-scale comparisons you can make to see just how far you've come. :)

It's great that you've realised things need to change and have taken the first step - welcome! MFP can be life-changing if you put in the effort. The people on here are very encouraging and there's a big bank of knowledge too. Some can occasionally be erm... blunt... but the advice is meant with the best of intentions.…

Cool! Found my twin!

I'm 5'6.5". Med-large frame. SW 215; CW 183; goal at the moment is 157 (a healthy BMI). I think I will want to be in the 140s ultimately.

Just this morning: Colleague: 'But you're not going to lose anymore are you?' Me: 'Yes. I was obese, and having lost over 30lbs I have only just made it to the top of the overweight BMI range' Colleague: 'But you weren't really obese were you?' ...well, kinda, by any accepted measure you'd care to use, yes...

Hi. Well done for taking the first step. You can do this! Here's a link to a success story that I find incredibly inspirational (there are many others). This guy overcame so much, and I always think if he can do it with all that against him, then so can I!…

AC/DC 1991 Birmingham NEC Arena (UK). I did see a band called Atom Seed in a manky pub in Coventry the year before if that counts - don't know if they ever got anywhere.

A lot of people just average their calories out over the week, so if you feel the need to claw them back then you could even just drop 100 calories one day, 100 the next etc. If, however, this causes you to feel exceedingly hungry then you risk the same thing happening again. Or, you could just forgive yourself and move…

Hi Helen, I'm Karen. I'm about halfway to my goal weight (top of the 'healthy' BMI range), and then I will reassess. I started with about 60lbs to lose. Congratulations on taking the first step. Feel free to add me if you want a friend for mutual support and encouragement.

Let's be clear, you did not 'drive' him to this other woman. Grown-up, decent, human beings talk about their problems and try to solve them. If they feel it's unsalvageable then they gently and honestly say so and find the best way for both parties to exit the relationship. They do not simply go looking elsewhere and then…

I managed to gain a lot of weight eating 'healthy'! Now I count calories religiously. On the four or five days I have not been near a food scale / MFP, I've had to make an 'educated guess' of my own. And even with all that experience of counting calories, every single time I underestimate what I've eaten by between 25% and…
