Great that you're making a start. Take it a day at a time and you'll be surprised what you can achieve. If you're looking for inspiration, this is one of the most amazing stories on here in my opinion: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/user/TannunisFred/profile/TannunisFred?target=&redirected=true

Hi and welcome. I didn't lose quite that much, but I know a pretty inspirational guy who has lost two healthy adults now. He's had a rough ride of it and is doing remarkably well. If you want to look him up, he's TannunisFred.

People generally got more accepting as my weight loss slowed and finally levelled out at maintenance. But when the loss was more rapid (2lbs/week) at the start I was getting alarmist comments from friends, colleagues and family even though I was still obese! People take time to adjust. For some it's just perception: then…

Me on the left at about 215lbs November 2013 Me at about 145lbs December 2014 Good luck with your goal. Break it into mini-goals if that helps it look less daunting. :)

Thank you :) I forgot to say, starting weight was 215lbs.

(me at the top of my range)

My first goal was a healthy BMI - 157lbs (ish). When I got there, I decided I wanted to go a bit lower, so I am now experimentng with maintenance at 140lbs +/- 5lbs. I have a large rib cage and am muscular, so I guess I look pretty lean at 140lbs, whereas someone with a small frame may not. We're all so different! I am…

142lbs

Just fantastic - you look amazing in those new jeans too!

Good luck jittarbug. You'll find a fair few people on the Success stories pages who have lost 200lbs+ very motivational! Take it slow and steady, and use the tools and advice available to you here. It doesn't have to be hell; and if you've already managed to quit smoking and soda then you've clearly got a bag of will…

I can totally see the difference - great going!

You are beautiful and you are not fat, but FFS stop the eating insanity now!
-
(145lbs in the latter)

I'm 5'7" and I've reached my GW of 145lbs. I have a fairly large frame. I'm just under my GW at the moment as I'm still trying to find my maintenance level, but I think it's about right for me.

Sorry for the blurriness. My starting weight was actually 215lbs in October 2013, but I don't have a full length photo. I reached my goal weight of 145lbs in December 2014 and am now trying to pin down my maintenance calories (I am 5'7").

To lose 2lbs a week, you need to eat 1000 calories less per day than your TDEE, not your BMR. MFP has estimated your TDEE at 2896 = BMR of about 2300 + estimated calorie burn through normal daily activity (living your life, not any additional exercise) of about 600.

I make it nearer $8.50 in the UK, but maybe I got my conversion wrong!

Great progress - and well done taking your pictures, it's something I regret not doing.
-
Fantastic change, you look great - and well done for getting healthy.
-
Fantastic achievement - you look so well!

I've always enjoyed walking, and it was how I started exercising when I was too unfit / embarrassed to go to the gym / classes. If you're ever unable to get out and about to walk, look up Leslie Sansone on YouTube - she really helped get me started.
-
Sweeping generalisation, much?

I was surprised just how many of my 'curves' I lost. Turned out they were just fat after all! My build is more athletic than I had imagined. I'm fine with that. I have a healthy BMI and I can run for miles and lift heavy stuff - none of which seemed possible 13 months ago. :)
-
I leave it for ages. Not dead yet.

fitnessblender is great. If you want to start out gently and can cope with someone with an incredibly sunny disposition, the Leslie Sansone 'walk yourself fit' ones on YouTube are good (you walk on the spot in your living room).

Great job!!!

Great job! I started running about 7 months ago and have totally got the bug. My first 5K was such a thrill. I agree it's well worth sticking with.
-
That's just superb. Congratulations on saving your life!

Absolutely slow down!!!! This was a huge revelation to me with running. Unless you are pushing for a PB in a race or something, it should not be as uncomfortable as you describe - it's supposed to be enjoyable. Keep trying. You will get there.
