Food Inc was good. Reading "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan was even more eye-opening to me. The first section on the industrial food chain? Ugh...

What sort of treats were you looking for? I've made the following for special occasions and had good luck with them all: http://www.elanaspantry.com/molasses-spice-cookies/ http://www.elanaspantry.com/chocolate-cake-coconut-flour-continued/ http://beta.primal-palate.com/recipe/pumpkin-spice-cakes/ Both of those sites have…

That's an awful lot of training each day. Is there any particular reason for such high intensity & long hours doing that much training? You're definitely not eating enough to refill yourself after that. I see a post-workout meal, but no supper? Most paleo/primal resources stress that you don't spend hours and hours…
-
^^True. I usually eat my post-workout meal within 45 minutes to 2 hrs of working out (depending on whether or not it's all ready to go or something I have to make usually!). I find on days when I don't get to do this, I'm a lot more sore the next day!

If you're starving after a weight lifting session, then EAT. Just make better food choices than pizza. Protein shakes are great when you're on the run. I am usually ravenous after a strength session. I choose things like: tuna, mustard & spinach or grilled chicken breast & salad, or leftovers from the day before if I have…

I usually bring either homemade beef jerky or a good trail mix for my snacks at work. Veggies & a dip also works, I like the "Sunshine sauce" by Mel @ The Clothes Make the Girl (http://www.theclothesmakethegirl.com/2009/07/21/sunshine-sauce/ ). I'm a dork and usually have a few cans of tuna and a little container of…

Totally recommend the jerky tip. You can make your own for a fraction of the cost you buy the paleo friendly stuff (the Steve's Kits that Fieldsy mentioned, for example, have always been a little too pricey for my budget) for and then the spices and flavours are all up to you! Pretty awesome.

I took a look at the ingredients list for several kinds and I would not consider these paleo bars. "Ingredients: organic dates, organic sunflower butter, raw honey, organic rice cereal (Organic brown rice, Organic brown rice syrup, Sea salt), rice protein (protein from whole grain sprouted brown rice, natural vanilla…

Dark chocolate in high percentages is primal, but you sort of have to work your way up! I wasn't able to start at 90%, that's for sure! I started with 65% and have worked myself up to 85% and can actually enjoy it now. Check out the following:…

This actually happened to me when I first started. After my first month, I had lost 10 lbs, but I was already at my goal weight when I started. I spent a few weeks tracking my calories at that point (I didn't track at all the first month like is usually suggested) to make sure I was eating enough. Without dairy and grains,…

I wasn't trying to be defensive and I wasn't implying that she was rude for talking about how she felt about goats milk. I think what was rude was to tell someone "I'm sorry to tell you this but nothing good can come from it", while providing no evidence to that fact other than your own opinion on the taste/smell. It just…
-
I'm not sure why this was posted, seems rather rude. Just because you don't like the taste/smell of goat's milk, doesn't mean nothing good can come from it or that other people can't enjoy it themselves. For people who have no issues eating dairy, goat's milk is one of the best ways to go. What works for you doesn't…

This thread is just what I needed today, a great source of inspiration to push me through a rough day. The exact reason I love MFP. Thank you all for being so brave to post your pictures. I will be throwing me own up here when I have results to show off!

I think you're being too hard on yourself! You are still going to have plenty of calories left for the rest of the day so don't sweat it. It's not like you ate an entire chocolate cake for lunch or anything.

Deadlifts and squats are my favorite. They make me feel like a strong, sexy beast. I also enjoy bench presses, but I think that's mostly because I can't wait for the day I can bench more weight than my brother ;)

One of the things I noticed when I transitioned to eating clean and then eating paleo/primal is that my tastes changed dramatically. Things that I previously disliked when eating SAD (Squash & Turnips, I'm thinking of you!), I've grown to love now. Things I loved before (tostitos nachos) taste like crap to me now…

Couldn't agree more with what MonkeyDharma said. I re-prioritized my budget around the same time as going primal/paleo. For me, this meant not eating out with friends all the time, buying lunches at work, and drinking every weekend/going to the bars. That's all it took, and those were habits I wanted to get a handle on…

Just wanted to add that the thread MrsAbles linked has good info, especially in regards to grass fed vs conventional meat. I know what you mean about food costs, it def can cost a lot more if you aren't prepared for it. I live on a tight budget myself as I'm just starting my "career" and have a substantial amount of…

I'm from NS! I've been on MFP for over a year now. I reached my goal weight in August 2011, but I still log in everyday to offer support/advice to my MFP pals. I am not as religious about tracking my foods as I was on my weight-loss journey, I mostly track now to keep an eye on my protein levels and to give others ideas…

While I totally agree with almost everything you've said here, the oils that foods are cooked in/soaked in at most universities are not healthy fats. They use the cheapest fats they can, usually Canola & Soybean oil. I do agree that we need fats in our diets, but think you might want to watch what fats you eat while on…

Great work! It's inspirational posts like these that I send to friends/family who want to lose weight but turn their nose up at the thought of using a place like MFP. You look awesome, way to go! :D

You look ready to me! Congratulations! Your midsection/tummy looks awesome, what have you been doing?

I don't delete people who have been inactive unless it's been over 6 mths and they don't respond to messages. Otherwise I just leave them on my list. If they ever decide to come back, I'll still be around to support them. Everybody's life is different and they could just be going through a difficult time. I've had several…

How have I missed seeing this thread for so long? Now I have to go back through all these pages in search of new things to listen to!

Fruit juices are tricky. People assume they are healthy because, you know, fruit right? But really you're only getting the sugar from the fruit and very few of the other benefits of eating fruit (vitamins, nutrients). I would suggest cutting out the fruit juices and stick with regular fruit. I stick with water for…

Bacon & Sausage are allowed as paleo meats, not sure why you would think otherwise. What's important is the ingredients in the bacon/sausage you choose as many have added sugar AND added wheat. Neither of which is primal OR paleo.

Sounds like a delicious reception to me! Enjoy your big day :D

Unfortunately for me, the only way I've found to get over intense sugar cravings is to not have anything with added sugar for about a week. After that, the cravings mostly subside. Mostly. I try to limit fruits when I'm having intense sugar cravings, as they seem to kick it into over drive. If I have fruit in the morning,…
