  • Started reading this thread to get some encouragement over how I'd possibly gained 1.5 lbs this week. Overnight, even, since I'd hopped on the scale yesterday and saw a lower weight. I'm sure you all know that WTF feeling. I haven't had the best week for working out so I didn't think I'd lose much, but figured I'd…
  • A calorie is a calorie, in the literal sense, but some food choices offer more nutrition per calorie. Many (though not all) commercial granola bars are essentially candy with a little more fiber. Candy's fine sometimes if you have the free calories, but I'd go for the fruit. If you're going for processed sugary things,…
  • Anything that adds flavor without adding many calories is a win when you're losing weight. However, I'm pretty sure hot sauce has no magic benefits other than being tasty.
  • I feel vaguely queasy just considering eating that much food. Then again, I'm probably much smaller than you! But I envy the ice cream.
  • I've been eating this all week. My husband and I both loved. Winter comfort food that's still healthy! (And conveniently in the database, with and without noodles--if, like me, you find yourself out of noodles on a cold, snowy night and deciding rice might be a good alternative.)…
  • Wish I'd seen this earlier. Had a couple of days this week when I was feeling a bit woozy and I think it was because I was gamely NOT eating back my exercise calories. I mean it was a kick to lose two pounds in my first week when I was aiming for .5, but probably not a good idea in the long run.
  • Are you a New Englander too? So sorry about your pipes! Today's usual insane amounts of core work and dancing around the living room. Maybe a kundalini yoga DVD: deep core work, cardio, and it's good for the soul. And probably some snow shoveling, though my poor husband got the worst of it so he could get to work. Normally…
  • As far as I know, pumpkin puree is just pumpkin. Pumpkin pie filling has spices and other ingredients in it. You could probably use the pie filling in the recipe and might be even tastier, but the calorie count would be different.
  • A few more than 5 ingredients, but most of them are seasonings. This one also works with beef chuck or bottom round, though it's higher in calories that way. Still not bad, but higher in calories. (I've never done it with pork, actually, since I'm allergic.) I've never bothered marinating the meat. Heck, sometimes I don't…
  • I'm 5'5'', currently 158.5 pounds and would like to get down to 140, maybe 135. Heck, I'd be happy at 145 if it's a fit, muscular 145. I have no idea what my current measurements are and don't have a specific goal other than "a bit smaller than I am now." Currently a size 10-12, would like to be an 8. I know this is…
  • I'm about to turn 50 and panicking a bit about that, but my 40s have been very positive. If I was dreading anything before the big 4-0 (and honestly I can't remember if I was), it didn't happen. I wouldn't advise "Keeping the day quiet." Plan something exciting and a little edgy for around the dreaded day, but something…
  • She's within a healthy weight according to http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/obesity/bmi_tbl.pdf and some people look and feel better at the upper end of the range. The OP may or may not be one of those people.
  • I'd seriously consider yoga in addition to anything else you might try. Yoga is great for toning and will also help your posture and alignment--and it's also a great mood lifter. You don't look like you need to lose much more weight, though that's up to you, but getting muscle tone is your next step.
