Oh, and it is not a sudden urge. It's been brewing for at least a year, it's just a matter of deciding when to take that final step (or several thousand steps, as it were).

Good advice. And yes, yes I will, especially if I sign up for something. My first half was in Sept. I feel comfy with 15 miles, so I think 7 weeks (imagining I might only have 5 in case of unforseen illness or mild injury) is doable.

I ordered Born to Run, though I'm sure I'll order more. Decided to go with inspirational versus training plans, as planning is really not my style in any aspect of life. I will consult online training guides, I think Powell has one, but everything I've done so far has been a mix of loose ideas of plans and whatever I…

He should support you. He's your partner in life. That's his job.

Thanks! I'm sure some will end up on Kindle, but I need at least one paper version to hold and keep me wrm at night. I'm generally pretty "green" person, but I have a thing about books.

Thanks! I'll consider those.

I have never run a full (yet), but have noticed that the more I run, after my longest runs I have no appetite even though a 5-6 miler will make me want to eat everything in sight. Sometimes I am much hungrier the next day or even two days after. My hypothesis is that pushing your body to extreme lengths triggers a…

This caught my eye because I am an archaeologist. I thought I was about to get in a heated internet debate. lol. Good for you! It's a great feeling when you aren't thinking about the scale and notice visible or feelable differences! I too developed better life habits (not imediately) after my separation/divorce. I m now a…

What he said. Mentally picture a healthy and fullfilling breakfast tonight. One step at a time.

Give her a break. Definitely not carb free but certainly more a lot fewer carbs than rice. As for the frying, stir fry in a small amount of quality oil, like olive oil. Good idea...but not for me. I'm a distance runner, I NEED those carbs!

I want to do an ultra, but my bucket list is a super mega ultra cross country thing. I'd really like to run the East Coast Greenway when it's complete. 2900 miles from Maine to Florida, as of now 30% off road. But I have my eye on a 100 miler near Sacramento in November. I have never even run a marathon, but will soon, and…

I quit on April 20th 2014. For good this time. I became a distance runner (which was part of the motivation to quit) so eating more was cceptable, but also the new hobby made me busier, and less likely to eat from boredom. Stay busy, and burn more calories. And dring a sh** ton of water. 2015.

I have a 15 mile mountainous trail race on the 31st. I have officially combined hiking and running, two of my favorite things. I bet I would love snowshoeing. Maybe I'll try it this year.

Thank you guys for adding me! I enjoy your virtual company!

It has woked great for me, and I had it recommended by many. It really helped me with my form and getting comfortable as a runner. But, to each his/her own. Joining a club probably is a good idea. I trained completely on my own for my HM and it probably would have been benificial to have guidance and company.

Chi Running or Chi Marathon, by Danny and Katherine Dreyer. There's also a website, but I love having the book to reference for technique/training. I can't believe no one's mentioned it yet.

All you runners, add me!

I am definitely going to pay more attention each month now and change my fueling up a little to see if it makes a diff.

Oh I forgot. 5' 2"

One word: Discipline. I love my wine, and it has a suprisingly similar amount of calories as beer. It's hard, but at times I just have resist. Sometimes it means having less (even 2 can make a difference) and sometimes I just have to be antisocial. I fell ya though, I'm Irish too. I used to be a beer lover but grew into a…

You may be the twin! HW, years ago, before I changed lifestyle, probably 135 HW since joining MFP 118-120 CW 116-117? 110-112, but really appaerance and tone are my biggest concern. I gain in late fall typicically and start losing about now. Any less than 108 is too much (I still have curves at that weight), but around…

I walked a little bit of my first half, but way less than I anticipated when I first set the goal to run one. I was also working 6 10 hour days (manual labor) through a lot of my training, so long runs were less frequent for me than most people. I managed to come at the lower end of mid-pack, and I was fine with that. I've…

I'm a runner and a hiker. My job actually involves a lot of hiking...like 10 hours a day sometimes. I mostly run on pavement, but am integrating trail running more as I become better trained. Training for a marathon! Ran my first half in september. both of you should add me.

I found this article a little more well written, and cited better. I'm a nerd, I like all the info I can get . http://www.runnersworld.com/race-training/how-menstruation-affects-your-running?page=single

Thank you!!! I have been trying so hard to figure out why I am seemingly having an "off" week, with seemingly no cause. Then it hit me that this might be the reason! As I, fortunately, have been free of major cramps, fatigue and other severe physical period symptoms the last couple of years, it never occurred to me till…

Agree and disagree. I have been off all meds for two years and exercise and diet are more effective by far, for me, than any anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, mood stabylizer, etc. I was unhappy for the first 34 years of my life, meds or no. This is me, my story. I lost my brother (non-biological) to reasons directly tied to…

My goal is to run a marathon in 2015. Ran my first half in September, plan on signing up for another soon. I work 6 11 hour days a week but also have week to month breaks occasionally. I'm an archaeologist and it's contract/ project to project based and very phyisically demanding, so training can be difficult! But I…

If you need weight loss advice, I can give you that, but anyone who told you anything but something along the lines of "you need a new husband, and self respect" is entirely missing a huge point. Your definition is not "wife, mother, Christian." You are a person in your own right, and Jesus would tell you that too.

If you ever, ever feel insecure there, just look at pictures of yourself!

Hi, I'm Maggie. I just started running at all (or since I was a kid) in December, and I'm hooked! I am in my element. Though I haven't signed up for a specific one, I am training to run a half marathon by mid summer. Feel free to add me and keep me inspired! Good luck everyone! Also if you're on Strava, add me on there…
