Elliptical if something is aching. Otherwise treadmill and only if outside is out of the question. Cardio is cardio unless you're looking for some specific training. Example would be training for a Spartan. Then you'd need the treadmill up high on a slope if you have no hills near you.

After. I don't like to do any cardio on a full stomach.

I've found that I recover a lot quicker now that I've dropped some of my extra weight. So while my times are not overly faster, my enjoyment of the sport is higher. Good going on your improvement though.
