  • Hey Stella, welcome to MFP! Now you've made the first step in committing to losing the weight, a couple of things worth considering; 50 lbs in 3 months is an average loss of 3-4 lbs per week, which is a) difficult to achieve and b) difficult to sustain. A slow steady loss of 1-2 lb per week is much more achievable, more…
  • From my mother: "You don't look VERY fat." Random loser at work: "I'd fancy you if you lost a stone." And being constantly told I remind people of Victoria Wood/Dawn French/Ruth Jones. All clever comedic British writers....all big girls.
  • I have a few issues with fructose and with wheat, plus I have chronic reflux, so I am strict about moderating certain things in my diet. But other than that, I eat what I want and stay within my calorie allowance over a 7 day period. So far I'm losing weight consistently, my spastic intestines, oesophageal spasm and reflux…
  • Oh. You totally got me, brilliant. They make Reese's peanut butter eggs? EGGS??? I so gotta go to the US.
  • In the last 8-9 yrs: Carbohydrate Addicts diet Slimfast Atkins Slimming World Weight watchers (works very well actually) Coconut oil is also known to be quite good for keratosis pilaris (chicken skin on your arms). Sadly mine seems to become more pronounced when I lose weight.
  • I am doing TDEE -20%, set at "sedentary" (I have a desk job) it works out at about 1500 cals per day. But if I exercise (mostly miles of hilly/off-road dog walking at a brisk pace), I record that according to my HRM (less BMR) and generally eat 50-100% of the calories back. I seem to be losing fairly consistently, so I'm…
  • I like to think the best of people...so if someone asks "Have you lost weight?", I like to think that THEY feel they are paying me a compliment by noticing. I don't automatically assume they thought I looked like crap before. I know I did, still do...long way to go!! Mind you...I confess that there are a couple of people I…
  • For all those using HRMs, do you deduct your BMR from the gross cal burn your gadget gives you? For example, my BMR is 1676 which works out at approx 1.2 cals per min to keep me alive. So if I walk for 58 mins and my Polar H7 gives me a cals burned reading of 368, I deduct 58 mins x 1.2 from the total. Giving me a net…
  • Oh whoops, just saw your other post. Very glad it's resolved!! See, it was no biggie. Some folk can be really reactive to this stuff....!!
  • Down my bra. Does make the case a little moist. ;)
  • Aww. Haven't read everything I'm afraid, but as someone who has been happily married for 11 years...this isn't actually that big a deal. Sure, it might feel right now that his attitude is symptomatic of something much bigger...and no one could blame you for feeling mad as hell that he's belittled your efforts and made it…
  • I tend to keep this stuff to myself, it's a lot easier. In the past I've gotten the appraising look and the obliging "Oh, you're fine as you are!" (when I really am not). Caught eating a banana at work one day, a larger lady who knew I was watching my intake told me that bananas were full of carbs and were really bad for…
  • Oh yes. I would think nothing of eating a family sized pack of giant chocolate buttons/minstrels/maltesers or whatever after dinner, every night. I think that alone represents maintenance calories, plus whatever I was eating during the day which likely included sandwiches, frappucinos, cake, sweets...and an ordinary…
  • Ah jeez, that's pretty depressing from my point of view as a 41 year old overweight wife. :( To the OP...I suspect its the baby thing, plus feeling a little insecure in himself. Be kind to him and encourage him to talk, he'll probably be relieved to air it if something is bothering him...
  • Hmm. I've been overweight on and off for most of my adult life, losing 40 lbs in 2005 but putting it back on during 2006, then yo-yo-ing (and putting a bit more on each time) ever since. I'm at my heaviest ever now, but have lost 11 lbs since 30th December. I started having some terrible pains after eating a salad with…
  • Seriously? You eat about 3 calories a day then do 2 hrs of cardio? Every day? And a "binge" is 1000 calories? Dude. Eat more food (go by the daily limit MFP sets if you want), cut down the cardio, add in some strength training. It's not a race, take it easy...you can't sustain this for the rest of your life, can you?
  • Some of these are truly terrible...I consider myself very lucky that I have spent the bulk of my forty years around loving, kind people, and that in school I was chubby but popular - the bullies never picked on me. That's said, most of the things I remember which hurt my self-esteem were far, far more subtle than outright…
  • Hmm. There are only 3 stalls, and they're quite snug. I would literally have to squat over the toilet. I also tend to wear dresses. The visual here is somewhat alarming.
  • I had big flappy upper arms when I was aged 17, a UK size 10 and had a 24" waist. Obviously these days the fat girth of my bingo wings would give a body builder a run for their money...I am not expecting to ever have slim toned upper arms, as I never had them before I was fat anyway. :(
  • Well, to put it in perspective, I lost 8lbs in my first 2 weeks of eating to a reasonable calorie deficit...so no shakes, I still eat what I've always eaten, just a lot less of it and I'm more mindful of what I shovel in my mouth. I also try to move a bit more every day. So basically, I'd say don't waste your money!!
  • Well that's a pretty broad question! I would say, to summarise, try to keep it simple. Don't set unrealistic goals, make it sustainable. Read as much as you can...I trawl these forums daily. I'm sure someone will come along with the links to "In place of a road map" and "Sexy Pants" posts fairly soon! Good luck :)
  • Those devilish processed carbs and sugar. Preferably at the same time. Cake, desserts, chocolate etc. Not fussed about the savoury stuff....
  • In the UK the market is predominantly saturated with aspartame products (such as Canderel and most supermarket versions), or saccharin products (Hermesetas, Sweetex). I do fine with the former and have been using it for years, not so good with the latter (it has an aftertaste and gives me stomach cramps). You can get…
  • Hi, I don't have any personal experience of such things, however, I do read the forums a lot so I will say...be very cautious. There is very rarely any genuine way of speeding up weight loss and even if there is a supplement which can, it's a quick fix - and some can really mess with your system. I gather the side effects…
  • This is a great idea. :) I'm pleased to say I haven't binged since I restarted my weight loss effort on Mon 30th Dec. I went over cals 3 days this week, after getting frustrated with a work project early in the week and making some poor choices...but not massively over, and I've made up for it in exercise since. After…
  • Well I've had a few "last straws" in my time...usually seeing myself in photos...but just recently my lower back pain has got so bad that my previously routine 90 minute off-road dog walks are a thing of the past. I have difficulty putting socks, tights and jeans on, because I can't lift my leg high enough to get my foot…
  • Not bad at all...last couple of days I slipped a bit on overall cals, but no binges. There is a birthday cake in the kitchen and hubby and I have had one very small slice each. I'm not even tempted.....!!
  • Hello, feel free to add me as a fellow yo-yoer....I'm older than you tho :)
  • I just...oh, well I....you see it's...I...no I can't, just keep typing. It's better than Netflix and uses less data.
  • I notice this original post was from October, and the OP said she was on the verge of losing her 16th lb. Her ticker now says she's lost 29 lbs. I'd say that was a pretty major "up yours" to the mean girls, right? :)
