At the end of the day it is all a question of caloric deficit. Yes, you can not outrun a "bad" diet, but boy...does it help to improve mine. For me the exercise part is the most inportant part of my daily routine: I am successfully in maintenance and that for about a year now. I have set my activity level here on MFP to…

I should do more weight training...but I am training for a marathon in two weeks and it is all about getting enough mileage in. I run around 50 miles/ 80-90 km per week and that nearly every day, with a rest day every ten days or so. On run days I cannot add weight training and on the non run days I need the recovery. I…

I burn somewhere between 600-1000 calories daily. I train for a marathon and run a minimum of 10km daily plus a 6 km walk with my dogs. 10 km means around 600 calories. I am 5'6" and 122 lbs. I measure my calorie burn with a Polar multisportswatch and heart rate monitor and I eat most of my burned calories back. I am…

I am training for a marathon which is in two weeks. Before my long runs I eat oatmeal with some Greek yoghurt and fruit. Alternatively a bagel with some soft cheese and an egg. After the run I have some protein powder and again eat one of the above. On long run days (after the run) I try to get as much protein into my body…

Less eating, more moving did it for me, particularly the more moving part was essential. Also logging your food truthfully (buy a food scale), cutting out fizzy drinks (unnecessary calories) - I am a water and tea total - has helped me a lot. Best of luck Stef. P.S. Supplements do not (!) help! You need to change your…

I use the Fitbit One since the beginning of my weightloss journey at the end of 2013. Now I use it in combination with a Polar multisportswatch with heart rate monitor which I use for all of my cardio exercises. The combination of both was and is highly motivating as I want to "earn" myself calories. I like eating...and I…

I am 50 and in menopause. I have lost 10kg in the last year and half and am now maintaining for a couple of months successfully. I started running a year ago and I had no problems loosing weight. The key for me was to become more active. Best of luck Stef.

I set MFP to sedentary and I wear a heart rate monitor for cardio exercises. I eat most, not all of my calories back and I have managed to successfully maintain my weight for nearly a year now.

I love my stevia/truvia and use it in Greek yoghurt and my coffee.

No. I go by weekly calorie goals. If I go over on one day, I make up for it on another. I try to eat consciously, lot's of veggies and fruit, but if I fancy a burger or ice cream, I will have it. I see it as a "way of life" rather than a diet to quickly loose some weight. I have been maintaining successfully for many…

I love my Hokas, but different models feel very different.mi also run in Asics and Brooks. At the end of the day it boils down to you trying them all on and seeing it for yourself. One piece of advice I was given: do not wear your running shoes for anything else but running.

According to a MRI I have a complicated torn meniscus after a ski accident in 2011. I am 50 years old, female. As my knee never locked up and it does not hurt I did not get a surgery. The sports professor told me at that point that it is unfortunately a lose- lose situation. Surgery might lead to arthritis problems later…

Hope it went well!

Just sent a befriend message to all of you above my post. I am 50 and from Vancouver currently training for a full marathon in September. It will be my first one...have done quite a few halfs, but have quickly realized that a full is not just double the distance... Best of luck with your trainings. Stef.

B. I cross train on my rest day.

My Blendtec blender and a food scale

I like oatmeal with some fruit or Greek yoghurt with fruit.

Trial and error. I just went by what MFP gave me. I go by weekly goals, so if I go over one day I go under one of the following. It is actually much easier than you think. I weigh myself regularly and if I go consistently out of the range of 1kg I eat either more or less. Stef.

Valentine, thanks for your success story! Great to hear that you overcame your initial problems! Best of luck for future races. Stef.

Great! Have fun! Stef.

I use a Nathan Intensity vest with 2 liter bladder. I find it so much easier than the belts I have. I only use water in the bladder so it is easy to clean.

I do all of my cardio training with a Polar heart rate monitor and multisportswatch. It helps me with heart rate zone training and calculating recovery times. It also tells me how many calories I have burned, so yes, I could not live without mine.

Fully agree. They need to fit YOU and what other people like is irrelevant. Just keep in mind, you shoes only have a limited life expectancy, some say 600-800 km. Also over time, you might want to get a second pair or some different trainers to alternate. Every shoe is different and it trains different muscles in your…

I am 50, started running a year ago and love it. Did three half marathons and a couple of 10k races. Age is no limiting factor. See here: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article22753806.html (92 year old marathoner...) Stef.

I am 50 and run between 60-80km per week. I only had to take ibuprofen when I had a running relate overuse injury, but then I also saw a sports therapist and I had to rest from running for three weeks. Otherwise never.

I have been in maintenance for a couple of months now, keeping my goal weight nicely. I also "earn" my calories on a daily basis. Just a little warning: for most people there is a time where weightloss stalls. This is normal! I had weeks/months (!) where I did not lose a single gram. Do not give up but keep on doing what…

I am not a member of a gym. I train for a full marathon, I hike, I roller blade, I scuba dive, I walk my dogs for an hour every day, I play badminton with my son and I do body exercises in my home. I got myself some Dumbbells and some elastic bands and I don't see the need to join a gym. I live in a wonderful city,…

I think there is no harder or easier. The two are very different. In maintenance you lose the joy of seeing your weight go down. On the other hand you can eat more, which is great. I have been in maintenance for a couple of months now. My new goals are fitness related and I'm currently training for a full marathon. I also…

Sorry to hear! Bummer! Hope you sort it for good. Best of luck with your recovery. Stef.

I love gong around Stanley Park here in Vancouver on my inline skates. I use it for cross training for my running. Great workout!
