  • Were your calves fatty to begin with, or were they pretty muscular or solid? If you were not able to pinch much fat on your calves before starting, odds are your calves were not going to shrink much, if at all. Plus, the elliptical does work your legs, which might also be a factor. I guess without knowing too much about…
  • Calories burned, 100%. Steps taken is a useless statistic that pedometer manufacturers are shoving down people's throat as the holy grail of congratulating yourself for doing something other than sitting on the couch......."I've got 10,000 steps today (pats self on back)". Plus, "steps taken" is way too subjective. Was…
  • The app is okay.......not great by any stretch, just okay. The function that I liked is that it keeps your schedule, and times out each day's workout. Nothing groundbreaking, but it serves a purpose and fulfills a need. As far as the book goes, I didn't really use so much as a workout guide as I did a change in my…
  • For free, I have to agree with a previous post and suggest Fitness Blender. If you want to pay for something, I would throw my money at, as also suggested previously, Focus T25, P90 (not P90X), Insanity MAX (not to be confused with Insanity). These are the top 3 in my rotation.
  • While I can't say for certain as it relates to gurjitkaur421's post, I have seen the term "Challenge" proceeding many of Beachbody's workout programs (i.e., P90X Challenge, TurboFire Challenge, etc) being used as a marketing trope by people aspiring to be Beachbody "Coaches" to either attract prospective customers who are…
  • Insanity........intense cardio/interval training program instructed by Shaun T.
  • Efficiency of motion. While you still feel that your working just as hard, your body may not. Your body has become more efficient at that movement and is therefore expending less energy to do so. Of course, this is just my two cents based on the information you provided. There could be other reasons, like a bad reading or…
  • I stopped doing it entirely. Compared to P90, P90X, and P90X3..........P90X2 is boring. There's way too much emphasis on stretching. Almost the first 9-10 minutes of every workout is stretching, using the roller, etc. I get that stretching is important, but you can do a stretch/cardio warm up, much like what Tony Horton…
  • P90X3 is one of the programs I do. I don't do it exclusively, but it is part of my rotation.
  • Agree with Firefly.....both programs are going to help you burn calories, so it's just a matter of which program can you sustain doing. Me personally, I find Chalene Johnson annoying and haven't been able to stomach TurboFire, ChaLEAN Extreme, etc. As far as the programs, TurboFire is way too choreographed and chaotic, and…
  • P90X, no, but I do P90 (the new one) and P90X3. Anyone is free to add me, regardless of what workout you do.
  • In researching "dark colored 'band'", I see information that says it could either be bruising from damaged cartilage or a torn ACL or MCL. I'm not trying to worry you, I don't think anything will rupture, but you may want to get an orthopedic specialist to look at it, ask for an x-ray and if the x-ray turns up nothing, ask…
  • The good and the bad. The bad.......the Alpha phase. It is the first of 3 phases with Focus T25, and it can be a bit too easy. I guess it depends what fitness level you are at. The good.......the Gamma phase. I think this phase is an extra addon. I'm not sure, I didn't buy it from Beachbody. The Gamma phase is no…
  • Why do I get the impression that this person just became a coach and copy and pasted the original post from one of their marketing materials? The OP only has one forum post, and his/her post seems like it follows some basic checklist. Mention at least 2 of the newest Beachbody programs.......21 Day Fix and PiYo (check).…
  • Not sure if 10,000 is around 5 miles for everyone in every circumstance.....it depends upon stride length among other factors. For instance, I was working as a proctor for our state's bar exam. The testing area seated over 700 test takers and was easily the size of a Costco/Sam's Club. I was tracking both my steps and…
  • On one hand, I agree with your point about Beachbody's workout DVD, a lot of them provide some great workouts. On the other hand, the Beachbody "coach" is a joke (minus the funny part). They're not providing you with a "coach", they're providing you with a pitchman. Welcome to the land of being pitched the "coach"…
  • I was having a similar issue, and then I switched shoes to my running shoes. I was wearing basketball style tennis shoes previously. Once I switched to running shoes (lightweight, breathable mesh style) the pain and numbness went away. That's just my experience...results may vary.
  • They do make elliptical bicycles, which is a trip to watch someone ride.
  • The locking and buckling may be a sign of torn meniscus, or at least that was the case with me and I just recently had my 3rd surgery on my left knee back in April (my left knee has given me problems since age 15.....i'm 38 now, and probably on my way to a knee replacement before I hit 50). The locking is from the floating…
  • Yes, so does HIIT, strength training, etc..........I love the practice of crowbarring ones self into a "this or that" question with an answer to the question that is not an answer to the question. [Steps down from soapbox] For my money, I would go with an elliptical. I've done treadmill workouts with an incline and…
  • I've read the book, and from a knowledge perspective, it's quite good and worth a read. In trying to do the workouts, I also downloaded the app. Like another poster above stated, it does get repetitive (hence, boring). I did it for almost two weeks before I just stopped out of boredom.
  • Since "tomorrow" is now today, I'm doing nothing. Today is my rest day.
  • One day, I will realize that I was Tyler Durden all along.
  • Agree and disagree. I think we need both voices, the good cop and the bad cop. It comes down to messaging, tone, volume and the confidence each voice has in our head. I'm not sure I would have ever started working out and eating better if I didn't have one voice in my head saying, "Hey fat *kitten*, how are you enjoying…
  • Not trying to be an informercial, but I use a Magic Bullet blender and it works perfectly. I'm not sure if that's practical for your purposes, but that's my process.
  • For your shorter variety, around 30 minutes, I would go with (in order of preference) Insanity MAX: 30, Focus T25 (Beta or Gamma phases), or P90X3 (workouts like CVX and MMX are two of the best "burn" workouts in P90X3). If you don't mind creeping into the 45-60 minute territory, I would go with (again, in order of…
  • Kids are in bed by 8:30p.m.. I'm working out by 9:00p.m., and in bed by 10:30p.m. That's my routine, and I understand that working out so close to bed might not work for all, but it works best for me.
  • I can get down to 22.5 gallons if I take my shoes off.
  • I guess that's why the person at the DMV looked at me confused when I told her I weighed about 23 gallons, and was 3.6 cubits tall.
