  • I love vegetables! Fruit not so much. These are some of my favorites: 1) Roasted root vegetables. Cut up rooties ( any combo of red potatoes, garnet yam, celery root, turnip, rutabaga, parsnips, carrots, whole peeled garlic cloves, etc), toss in olive oil and garlic pepper. Roast @ 400° for about 75-90 minutes, stirring…
  • I use Mrs. Dash, or Costco's brand of salt-free seasoning. They are both good. There are other brands and flavors in the spice section that are all salt-free. You can also make your own custom blends with spices- just read the ingredients of your favorite Cajun/Creole seasoning and go from there.
  • Applebee's has "skinny margaritas", which are decent. I have to add a packet of Splenda or Equal to it. They're around 100 calories, I think.
  • Personally, I think having the perfect 6-pack is a vanity thing for men, just like having a rockin booty or perfect boobs is for women. What is considered attractive is such a vast arena, and completely subjective depending on who you ask. Now that I'm getting myself into shape, I want someone with the same mindset. A…
  • As someone who was (and still is) morbidly obese, this is my take on this topic: 1) I had to use those electric carts for a time after a very serious car accident that nearly killed me, and left me with injuries too numerous to mention. I was at my heaviest then. 2) I got "the look" from ignorant people who assumed I was…

  • Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Linkin Park, Kesha. My interval song on the treadmill is "Keep on Dancing" by Alyssa Rubino.
  • I upped my carb intake by 50% and changed up my exercise routine. Took a week, but things are moving again :-)
  • I eat Oroweat or Arnold's sandwich thins. Lower in calories and carbs. I eat one a day.
  • Your body is starving. If you're doing elliptical 5 days a week, you need to increase your carb intake at the very least. Definitely your calories. I know it seems counterintuitive to eat more, but that's what your body needs.
  • I have to go to the hospital to weigh myself. I would be too OCD about it if I had a scale at home. Don't let the number rule your life during your metamorphosis. Though we all want to lose weight, it IS just another number at the end of the day. Focus on what is most important- good health and well-being.
  • I'm on a VERY tight budget. Here are some things I do: 1) Find your local discount grocery store or 99 cent/dollar stores and shop there. many have fresh produce. Look for marked-down bags of vegetables nearing the end of their shelf life. 2) I stop into Big Lots 1-2 times a week. Last time, I found 6 lb double-bag boxes…
  • My personal trainer gave me a visual: a pound of fat is roughly the size of a large grapefruit, whereas a pound of muscle is about the size of a pencil.
  • You can be in control of your diet and body, but if you aren't in control of your mind, that is where the sabotage comes into play. There is a mental block (and we all have them in varying degrees- myself included), and talking to someone about what's on your mind will help you identify what that might be and help you come…
  • Whether one is overweight or underweight, no one wants to be on the end of ANY spectrum. It isn't healthy. I think most here are aware of the health risks. Whether you nearly hit 500 lbs like me, or struggle to maintain 100, everyone here trying to better themselves is worthy of support. We are all just trying to reach a…
  • I'll send you a request. My highest weight was 482, now I'm at 370. We can all do it together :-)
  • Hi all... I started out at 482, now at 370. Need to get down to 160 or so (I am tall). I'm 37 years old, and had a health scare last year that finally inspired me to lose the weight for real. Have hit a few plateaus, but it's still coming off with the proper amount of diet and exercise. I was ecstatic when I got below 400,…
  • Last year, at age 36, I began having heart palpitations. My doctor referred me to a cardiologist, and he put on my medical chart (and I quote): "cannot rule out obstructive coronary artery disease". At that time, I weighed just under 500 lbs. They ran some tests, including an echocardiogram, and it was ruled out. Still, it…
  • I'm new here. I've already lost 112 lbs, but still have another 200 to lose. Feel free to friend me, and we can motivate each other :-)
