I have one close relative who had lap-band but didn't lose with it because she expected it to do the work for her. Eventually she lost a lot of weight using MFP and eating right/exercising. The band was empty while she lost, and about a year and a half ago her band slipped, meaning she had to have emergency surgery to…

"Starvation mode" is a major point of contention around these boards (not this particular one but MFP boards in general)... but sure, sometimes you need to eat more to lose weight, plus sometimes eating too little can compromise your supply. I had the worst time losing while I was BFing, which was for an entire year. I had…

With my first I was supplementing with formula, and my period returned at 3 months pp. This time my OB told me that mine would probably return at 3 months, which I thought was weird because I was EBFing. I EBF'd until 5.5 months when we started solids but continued BFing until a year. My period came back at 10 months pp.…

Update: currently 195 (8/25/14), and my little guy is 15 months old ETA that I'm eating 1600-1700/day, plus I'm working out hard on the weekends (Spinning) and running as much as I can during the week (2-3x for about 30 minutes, so not crazy).

I am getting ready to make my exit from this group... I weaned my little guy in late May. He did fine because we did it gradually, like it sounds like you're doing, but I got a little emotional thinking about it as we whittled ourselves down to two feedings, then one, because he's my last baby. It's totally normal to be a…

^This. I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat a lot of meat/animal products in general. However even without eating packaged foods I could easily overeat if I weren't paying attention to my intake. Running definitely does you good, but it's your calorie intake that's going to make the difference. Best wishes to you!

Please do post! I'd love to see them! (How come all the cool stuff comes to Atlanta - or Georgia in general - after I move away?)

Awesome story! Thanks for sharing! Congratulations on your achievements! Perseverance is key, and many of us don't have the patience to persevere. Stories like this help a lot :)

After both babies, using MFP, the first 10 lbs took about a month. After baby #1 I was eating 1200 calories/day and lost about 2 lbs/week fairly consistently after that. After baby #2 I am eating 1500-1700 calories/day and am losing 1-1.5 lbs/week. I had a lot to lose both times because apparently I am really good at…

Agreed, you have to be a little more patient. I know that's a lot to ask! I FF after my first and lost easily - probably mostly because I was eating 1200 calories - but I BF my second and couldn't lose weight to save my life. Even after weaning I lost for a couple of weeks and then stalled out for over two weeks even…

I totally agree! If I'd realized the first time just how much stick-to-it-ive-ness you needed to BF, I'd have had a much better experience. The second time, I knew this and stuck to it! The pain of a thousand knives directly into your boobs will stop almost suddenly. (For me it didn't dissipated so much as just disappear.)…

Nothing new to add re: exercise or sports bras. I will say, about sex, that I was afraid after baby #1, so it was about six months before we tried. KY is your friend. After baby #2 it was even longer (about 10 months) because BFing left me with zero sex drive, plus after BFing all day the last thing you want is someone…

I had it a little after both pregnancies and a little towards the end of my second pregnancy. (Both were vaginal deliveries and I was an efficient pusher - three pushes for baby #1 and two pushes for baby #2!) I never peed my pants per se but would leak a little if I coughed hard or sneezed or laughed too hard. Thank God…

My younger son is 14 months old today, and we BFed for a year. I couldn't lose while BFing so eventually stopped trying. I've lost 12 lbs since weaning two months ago. It's not as fast as I would like, but it's better than gaining or maintaining! I gained a lot and still have a long way to go to my pre-pregnancy low. I'm…

This was me. I lost weight easily after my first baby because he was FF due to my serious supply problems. After my second baby I couldn't lose weight to save my life, and if my calories went too low, my supply suffered. (We EBF until adding solids around 5.5 months, and I weaned him at a year. Today he is 14 months old,…

^This was my last post. Just updating, it's 3 days before my younger guy's 14-month birthday and 5 days from the two-month mark of starting to log/try to lose again, and I'm down to 199.2. I started working out hard (Spinning) again on the weekends, and I had a two-week stall on the scale, which makes my numbers for the…

Yes, the day after Halloween (or the day after Easter) is a great day to buy candy! But the having to re-buy candy was a secret I kept from others - because I was hiding my binge eating
-
I have been reading this thread inbetween tasks for the past couple of hours and have read a few "tricks" that I've tried. My big secret, which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned, is that I used to buy Halloween candy far too early and then have to replace the candy multiple times by Halloween. I'd sometimes eat just…

Woohoo! I got Daryl!

I'd wait a day or two, then re-test. Good luck!

My husband and I have our own business, and our two employees smoked like crazy. I hated the way that they made the office smell, and their smoke breaks were getting in the way of work that needed to be done. They knew how anti-smoking we are (we both smoked socially in college, but that's it), but it wasn't grounds for…

With my first, we majorly supplemented him, and I quit BFing/pumping entirely at 3 months pp because of the frustration. My period came back literally the same day I decided to quit! With my second, we EBFed for 5.5 months, then we started solids but still BFed a lot. (I weaned him at a year.) My period came back at 10…

I BF my second baby for a full year, and I had the worst time losing weigh during that period. We weaned when he turned one (a month ago), and, with eating at a calorie deficit, I've lost about 9 pounds (about 3 kilos). It came off at an expected rate given my calorie deficit and wasn't particularly fast aside from the…

I thought that baby's had to be checked, but honestly I have no idea where I got that from. I'm not a doctor, so if your doctors say that it's not necessary (knowing that you BF), then go with that :)

Sorry that was so long/explanatory. TL;DR version: Pre-preg low: 154 Pre-preg weight: 160-165/170 somewhere Before delivery at 39+ weeks: 240 (!) A couple of weeks postpartum: 220 After a year of struggle due to BFing: 211.2 Last weigh-in at a hair before 13 months postpartum: 202.6

I started somewhere between 160 and 165/170 (not sure exactly because I had slacked off and gained from my low of 154) and ended up at 240 at my last dictor's appointment before delivery. *runs and hides* *pops head back out* Yup, you read right. I gained somewhere between 70 and 80 lbs. I didn't think I could do worse…

^This! I'm also almost certain it's your scale. I've been through several high-tech scales over the past 10 years, and they've always been inconsistent and became screwy after the first battery change. The one linked above has never given me problems, even after a battery change, and it's super consistent.

I live in Charleston, SC where it's hot and humid for 9 months out of the year. If it hits the 40s, that's polar weather. I'm from NJ and lived in Michigan for five years, so I find it hilarious. Anyway, I'm getting back into running after baby #2, but when I used to run a lot I would always go first thing in the morning,…

I know you know my whole story/struggle ;) Thus I won't rehash it here... As far as getting your thyroid checked, I considered that for a while (especially because hypothyroidism runs in my family), but that's up to you. The only reason I decided against it is because it can take a while to get your meds right, and I…
