Hun, your boyfriend is going to be thrilled to see you no matter what! I hope that this is the first return home after deployment for both of you. Just remember he's had some serious experiences, some of which he may not care to discuss, but that doesn't mean he doesn't love you. Everything will be an adjustment. Simple…

I too have FM, osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple spinal issues, so I totally understand how debillitating constant pain is. Which means I also thoroughly understand how it can make exercising pretty damn difficult, some times more than others. And even more, I understand how alone one can feel, especially when…

Oh Lord, especially if you're Miss Coco Peru! Not that I've seen her recently, but OOF I love me some MCP!! While I'm deliriously happily married to a man and I'm woman, and we were each born this way, I'm extraordinarily LGBT-friendly, no matter which of those four letters a person falls into. When are people going to…

In my experience, eating NONE of them back works against you. You come in 800 cals under your goal regularly and your body really will go into starvation mode. It doesn't take much to go into starvation mode. My suggestion, and I'm sure the suggestion of most people who will answer, is to eat back most of them. How many…

I'm at about day 368 of tracking and logging on MFP, so I'm your gal if you're looking for someone who's committed. I've only lost about 20 pounds in that year, but due to some physical limitations I'm completely okay with that because I have LOST 20 pounds. I seem to lose a number of pounds and then maintain at that for a…

Well I know what that's like but in a different way...never having had perky boobs to begin with, now at my semi-advanced age my girls are rapidly slipping not just south, but southwest and southeast! I keep saying if money were no object I'd have my boobs done, but not bigger. Just UP. And FRONT. Like they're SUPPOSED to…

Actuallly there is real evidence that gluten-containing foods ARE addictive. Pick up a copy of "Wheat Belly" by William Davis, M.D. Gluten works on the same part of the brain as opiates. And now that the food pyramid has been changed to include more grains, we are all consuming far more gluten than we did 10 years ago. I…

I'm a firm believer in taking a stool softener every day - just make sure you get just a plain stool softener, not a stool softener plus. As a lifelong sufferer from constipation, I can not so firmly anymore attest to the power of 100 mg of ducosate sodium daily. It'll help make things easier while you figure out what you…

Just something to keep in mind...your body will absorb the nutrients in the salad much better if you stay AWAY from fat-free dressings. You should use low-fat or reduced-fat in order to gain the most benefit from the veggies. My faves are any of the Ken's, but I also make my own with a touch of dark sesame oil, balsamic…

I like to grill my veggies with a smidge of sesame oil instead of olive oil. Gives it a whole different flavor that doesn't require anything else to make it tasty.

Part of what's going on is that carbs release seratonin in your brain. Seratonin is the chemical in your brain that when released makes you feel happy. Feeling happy is highly addictive, which is why we crave carbs. It's such an evil (but oh so yummy, delicious, and satisfying) cycle! LOL

Okay, first of all, congrats on taking the first step! Gaining control over our weight is much like alcoholism...first we have to admit there's an issue that needs to be addressed. And please keep in mind that anything that I'm about say is not a lecture, nor is not said to be degrading or sound superior. These are things…

Woops, I meant I'm NOT a brand newbie, but I am a newbie

I'm a brand newbie, but I'm a newbie (I started MFP on 1/4/14 and have lost 11 lbs - slow and steady wins the race is what I keep telling myself). For me this is more about a permanent change in lifestyle rather than a diet. Like you, I respond better to some kinds of support more than others. I'm more interested in being…

5'-6", 126 lbs and trying to lose weight?? I'd put a halt to that - that's very thin. But if you're concerned about your middle there's always ab exercises. Runtastic has a couple apps that you can link right to MFP, and I'm sure there's a bajillion ab videos on youtube.

I realize this is so uncool anymore, but do you have any kind of platform game (Wii, XBox, etc)? EA Sports has a "game" called Active (they also have Active 2) Personal Trainer. I'd suggest the Active 2 because it's wireless. In addition to the "game" it comes with a heart rate monitor that you wear on your inside upper…

I'd make myself more neurotic than I already am if I weighed myself every day:laugh: Although I would be interested to see how directly related to my weight my food and exercise choices are. I weigh in first thing Sunday morning as soon as I've emptied my bladder and put on my glasses. That way I've gotten through one day…

Here's what I found under the FAQs on the app: From the web: At the top right of the list, click "Default" to change option to "By Name" From iPhone, iPad and Android: Click on the gear icon at the bottom of your list to display options. You want your "All Meals" for your fist option, and "A to Z" for your second option. I…

I haven't changed my deodorant, and the smell isn't from my underarms - it's from my pores. Since I've cut back a little on my increased protein, the smell is already getting better. My intent and desire is to NOT go back to the ridiculously low amount of protein I used to ingest. I'm trying to figure out how to help…

sandi117, I totally appreciate your continued help on this! You're helping me more than you can imagine. Quote (I don't know how to do the blue quote bar thingamajig): That was just one solution that I could think of. I couldn't tell where your carb levels were at since your diary is private. How many carbs do you let…

In quinoa's case, absolutely. It's a perfect protein!

Apple Pie Breakfast Smoothie. Comes in at barely over 300 calories with 21 grams of protein. 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 3/4 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt, 5 raw almonds, 1 banana, one red apple cored but not peeled, and apple pie spice (which is just cinnamon nutmeg and clove) to taste. Although I usually use 1/2 cup…

Okay, so all of your responses are much appreciated and have now caused me to be mad confused! LOL I was just looking through my nutrition macros from day to day, and some days it has my protein goal at 65, some days 130. Why do I not have the same goal every day?? I can't imagine what I've experienced is due to too low…

Supposedly the app will prompt you to recalculate after you lose 10 lbs, but I didn't notice that happen when I lost 10. But you can do it online. Go to myfitnesspal.com, go to myhome, then goals, and then follow the prompts. As you lose weight, your body will need less calories to maintain so it's in your best interest to…

dmfrom, I feel your pain! I hate winter. Despise it. And this winter is ENDLESS! I want so badly to be outside digging my dirt so I can start some plants again. Snow snow snow and did you see those icicles in my picture! So, I feel ya. But we're almost there! Daylight Savings time starts March 9th. We're almost at the…

I started tracking using MFP on January 4th, weighing 181.8. As of February 16th (I only weigh myself once a week) I'm down to 169.8. I'm new at all of this stuff. These are the things that have helped me - religiously logging my food on MFP. Because I eat breakfast at work I log my breakfast and lunch during my lunch…
