I have a Polar with chest strap and Fitbit One and have had the exact same experience...it does not estimate calories burned well enough but it still gives you some idea, you just have to add on what you know you burned from the HRM.

I have always been muscular too and strength training is a natural for me, but I can walk into walls with the best of them. That said, I am still on the basics. ;)
