Run a mile? I can walk a mile in 45 minutes. That's good for me, with the old arthritic knees and so on, but I'm really impressed with you and all the folks like you who can run that far that fast. Keep it up!

Lovely!

I agree with most of the others (was at 350 once, no longer). About 1600 calories a day works for me. I think 1200 is too few calories and you'll be more successful if you eat a little more.

Thanks for the recipe! I think I'll try the cauliflower buffalo bites this way instead of with the cup of flour in the other recipe.

I don't know. I think the ultimate poverty dinner is anything you get off the $1 menu at a fast food place

Plantar fascitis is not a permanent disorder. It can definitely be cured. Losing weight will help. Learning to stretch correctly will help. Learning how to work on trigger points will help, too. Do some reading about trigger points, learn some of the techniques for self-treating trigger points. I have a sign in my kitchen…

forgive yourself and move on -- back to the good habits

I come from a family with lots of diabetes. My mother died of heart disease caused by diabetes. I was determined that I won't get diabetes. Mostly I avoid really sweet stuff, I make sure I get protein every day. I wouldn't say I eat the best diet, but eating more protein and more whole grains (I agree -- old-fashioned…

I keep an eye on things on ebay, have bought a couple of pairs of new jeans fairly cheaply. I don't want to buy a lot of clothes as I am still losing weight, but I also don't want to do laundry more than once a week.

Wow, you're going through some tough times. I don't have much to offer, except to say that I hope you get well soon.

you work two jobs and take care of two kids and the house? And he thinks you aren't capable of hard work? Counseling is definitely needed. Or a new husband who stays home and helps out.
-
I agree. And keep walking as much as you can. Good luck to you!

Maybe you should see a general practitioner for an overall health exam, rather than an endocrinologist. It might be something other than the endocrine system. I wonder whether you should maybe try running? I can't run myself -- arthritic hips and knees -- but I've heard so many others tell how much running helps their…

Newman's Own Lite Balsamic is my favorite

Mine flares up more during allergy season, and when I'm under stress. Reducing stress helps, taking allergy meds during allergy season seems to reduce the intensity, although that's just my observation.

Get accustomed to the idea that healthy weight loss takes time. A calorie is a calorie, yes, but eating more healthy stuff will be good for you in the long run. It took me a while to convert willingly to salad instead of pasta, for instance, but now that I'm used to it, I enjoy it. And, in my own opinion, recording every…

Spicy jambalaya, with loads of onion and red bell pepper, 350 calories a serving. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/RamonaFr

Take a hint from athletes who train very hard. Ice your knees for 15 minutes after you run, every single time! It helps to reduce pain and prevent inflammation. Don't wait until you are injured to start icing. Another thing, if you have a pool handy, is to swim for a bit in a cold pool after working out, to chill your…

So many responses! But I have to add my two cents' worth. It is OK to be hungry. If you're hungry, check in with yourself. Have you eaten enough calories of healthy food in the last four hours? If so, wait a bit. I notice if I tell myself it's OK to be hungry, and wait a bit, the hunger goes away for a while. I don't have…

Muscle weighs more than fat. As you build muscle you can actually gain some weight. So, combine calorie deficit and workouts to reach your goal. I agree with everyone else, you have to measure all your food and record calories accurately. I also think that sometimes the calories MFP assigns to exercise/activities is too…

It's interesting to read everyone's replies. I don't eat breakfast because I'm not awake then. I'm not hungry when I wake up. If I make myself eat breakfast when I'm not hungry, I wind up overeating the rest of the day. Better to wait until I'm genuinely hungry.

It's boring, isn't it? And it sucks. But it's the way to go, one or two pounds a week, and stick to it for the long term.I've lost about 45 pounds in this last year, especially since October when I got serious. It's slow but more likely to give good results.

I had to find out more about the Quest pasta. It's made from konjac root, similar to Japanese shirataki noodles. I bet the Japanese noodles would be less expensive! So it makes a very high-fiber pasta with few calories. I looked up the Wikipedia entry -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konjac -- and it looks as though it's…

I've learned portion control, and I've learned that it's really really easy to deceive myself, unless I measure all my food. No guesstimates -- they don't work.

When I used to be that busy I would cook a bunch of brown rice and keep it in the frig. Then I could throw a serving of it into a pan with some veggies and chicken broth, heat it through and there was dinner. Brown rice with scrambled eggs is quick and easy. A little soy sauce on it tastes good, too. You can buy a 5-lb bag…

I've been drinking a diet coke every day for probably 40 years. It doesn't seem to be stopping me from losing weight, and I usually buy the caffeine-free coke, so no caffeine headaches. I don't think diet coke is a problem, don't plan to quit drinking it.

add extra bell peppers, onion, garlic and tomatoes to your pasta sauce add leftover veggies from dinner to your scrambled eggs drink vegetable juice, try green juice from the health food store eat celery sticks filled with dip, peanut butter or tuna salad

My brother-in-law has always been trim and has always eaten 4000-5000 calories a day. How? He rode his bike 20 to 40 miles a day, and never gave a thought to what he was eating. At your age, with your current weight, I think you just need some truly vigorous exercise. Something fun with a group -- ride a bike, dance for…

I looked up the book Overcoming Overeating == there are two book with that title, different authors. Which one is the one you are recommending.
