  • I get irritated if I notice I'm going to burn out from exercise and not eating enough. Maybe you're not consuming enough calories? Maybe you should log your moods along with exercise and calories. You may see a pattern.
  • I was diagnosed with stage IV endometriosis and know all too well the pain associated with this condition. What really helped my symptoms was cutting calories and salt, and upping my fibre. There is an endo diet, which is sort of paleo, but I found it extremely restrictive. I lost 10 lbs simply by cutting calories and my…
  • I don't think anyone is ever too old to start running. If you feel healthy, why not give it a go. You can follow a program or do a walk/run combo. Speaking with your healthcare practitioner may also give you some confidence to start running.
  • I think it would be worth the money to see a dietician. If you are at risk of getting diabetes, this is probably something you should seriously look into. Eating for two is a complete myth. A nutritionist may tell you to eat at maintenance because you are overweight to begin with. I've been eating at maintenance since I…
  • I love x-country skiing!!! It's very difficult, but you feel so nice after. The best way to end a day of x-country skiing with with a big, hot meal and a beer or two. ;) For me, I think the most difficult workout would be the first time I completed a triathlon. OMG! It was intense. My lungs were burning the entire time. I…
  • Sounds like running would be a good choice. You can pre-map your route and enjoy some different scenery at the same time. :)
  • Also, re: the hat, the cord tied under your chin also prevents the hat from moving around when running.
  • I live in Northern Ontario and know all about winter sports since it's winter about 7 months of the year here. LOL. Buy a good pair of tapered running pants. Get cold weather ones. You can always wear another pair of leggings under your running tights. For your feet, I swear by Alpaca wool socks. They are friggen awesome!…
  • Chariot/Thule makes a great jogger. You can also buy an attachment so it converts to a bike trailer. You can easily find these used.
  • 27 weeks and I've gained approx. 17lbs. I'm happy with that and hoping I won't gain more than 10 lbs by my due date. My pre-pregnancy weight was 147 and I weighed in at 164.5lbs yesterday. The weather has been awful this week, so I haven't walked much. I'm going to go on my indoor bike tonight because I feel HUGE today.…
  • I would be a little over 100km away from the hospital and pharmacy. However, there is a nurse practionner in the community where my cottage is located. There is no pharmacy. However, I'm sure the pharmacy could deliver medication in need-be.
  • I've ran in weather as cold as -20C. It wasn't that bad. I just wore the right clothing. However, I will not run on soft snow. You can sprain your ankle. If it's cold-packed snow, make you wear a good pair of winter running shoes.
  • I walk my dog every day and have had large loose dogs approach me. The dog will usually retreat if I confront it. I will usually stand my ground and tell it to go away. That usually does the trick. However, I'm not afraid of dogs, so this may not work for you… Mace or a stick would do the trick. Don't try to kick or punch…
  • I think you should listen to your body. If you feel you can do it, you might as well. I split wood at 4.5 months pregnant for about 6 hours one weekend. I wasn't lifting super heavy logs or anything, but I was bending down, squatting and lifting some medium-sized logs. I was sore, but felt fine otherwise. At this point,…
  • Cass, you can add me as a friend. I'm 24 weeks pregnant with my first. I'm obviously not trying to lose weight, but I am tracking calories and exercising regularly. I cannot give you advice re: post partum depression. I'm assuming you are seeking professional help for this. Anyhow, as for diet, track everything you are…
  • I know you said you wanted to stay in your dorm room, but what about going for a walk?
  • Ya, I've been reading about that. I just can't imagine being inside all winter. I'll go crazy. In addition, we have a cabin in a remote village and I plan on spending a lot of time there with the baby. Luckily, we have electricity and running water out there, even during the winter, so I won't be missing any of the…
  • I'm currently 23 weeks and still running. I purchased the gabrialla band and it's made a big difference. I can run 5km in about 30 minutes, which is pretty good. I'm going to run until it's not comfortable anymore or until the snow starts to fall. Luckily, I get 12 months of maternity leave since I'm in Canada. I don't…
  • I started to show at about 16 weeks. I'm currently 23 weeks and I can still hide my bump under a sweatshirt or jacket. I'm not that big for some reason. Oh well. The ultrasounds show that everything is ok.
  • Self, I'm sorry to hear that it was an early miscarriage. Sounds like you're taking things in stride. You are young and have plenty of time to build your family. I'm 35 and just having my first. Don't know if I want a second considering my age, but the option is there. Take care.
  • Thanks everyone! I think I will get one. I'm sure it will help with my posture.
  • Every woman is different and every pregnancy is different. You lost 66lbs already and you can do it again. No sense in lamenting what happened in the past. Just get back into the swing of things if you're feeling up to it and the weight will come off eventually. The slower you do it, the more likely it will stay off. From…
  • My goal is to bring this baby into the world as safely as possible, whether that be vaginal or surgical. People get so tied up with c-section vs. vaginal delivery. If you have a healthy baby at the end of the day, I think that's what matters. If I can, I will do it the old fashioned way. I will opt for pain relief if…
  • LOL. I remember the days where I would have something planned for dinner that sounded good in the morning, but when I got home, not so much. DH was a good sport and simply ate what I felt like having at the moment.
  • Ugh, I don't miss the days were everything was nauseating. I'm so happy I'm back to my regular eating habits. Pancake seems like a nice and bland food to eat if you're feeling nauseous. Smoothies and beans really made me want to yack when I was feeling nauseous. Pizza and fries were another safe food for me. Glad you're…
  • I absolutely love to walk. I live in a cold climate and walking is something I can do even during the snowiest and coldest days. Running, well, I'm not a fan of running on soft snow because I've sprained my ankle several times. Anyhow, you will lose weight walking and eating at a deficit. You can kick it up a notch by…
  • Awesome results!!! Congratulations.
  • I'm 18 weeks and my aversions/nausea is completely gone. YES!!! I haven't had any weird cravings. Just my usual cravings I've always had. When I was nauseous, the only foods that were palatable were pizza, fries and sweets. LOL. Potato chips sound like a good idea, but they usually make me feel ill afterwards. That's a…
  • I'm due Jan 12th. Keep logging and try to workout every other day. Walking is great!
  • The only thing I can add is to eat protein and fibre (beans, etc). For me, I feel much fuller if I do that. In addition, protein shakes with fruits really keep me satisfied.
