So the answer is, for 7 months of school, we don't play any games or have any fun in gym? Because some of the kids were screwing around?! Did the teacher identify which kids were not following the rules? Did the teacher identify why this happened? Does the teacher have any responsibility here? What does this do to the…

Implementation. This is lazy teaching. Teachers are supposed to be professionals.

As a former non-athlete I can tell you from my first hand experience as a youth that it DID discourage me from exercise. Saying that coaches use this as a motivational tool doesn't help. I ran into all kinds of jerky coaches as a youth. I was humiliated all the time in gym class and in little league, and I actively avoided…

Except that elementary school kids in gym class are not on a team and are not in the military. They are supposed to be getting educated along with participating in physical activity. This removes the education aspect in favor of a retributive measure. Athletic kids will do fine and probably will blow it off as easy, while…

@PaulaWallaDingDong, this is fantastic. I can't be the only one who's getting cognitive dissonance from your photos when I realize you aren't Mads Mikkelsen. (Of course I'm not Captain Tenneal, either.)

I find I do better if I pick a smaller quantity of very good cheese. Sometimes I'll get a few higher end cheeses and make myself a mini cheese plate along with an evening malted beverage.

Whenever I see the title of this thread I think of Sméagol: We regrets the purchase, don't we precious?

400 calories is about what this calculator says also. They probably use the same formulae. http://www.shapesense.com/fitness-exercise/calculators/walking-calorie-burn-calculator.shtml The number might be higher than expected because of the 252 lb weight. That said, you need to take the "at rest" calories out of this…

I find it highly amusing when someone claims that "the body doesn't recognize xxx as food, and therefore stores it as fat." That's exactly what the body WILL do with food. Things that are not food, like plastic, or metal, or whatever, just don't get digested.

How long will you be there? It's unlikely you'll "gain it all back" unless you totally give up during and after your trip.

Who could have expected this? How could we have known?

It is not true.

Yes, what @Alatariel75 and @lorrpb said. In addition, there's no guarantee that the scales are have linear responses at higher weights. Pick one scale and use it.

Could MFP do the kind of thing reddit does? All the threads are archived, so they can all be read by everyone. But after some time, you can't post any new comments.

Just the thought of working out in a group is wearying. The chit-chat. Having to coordinate schedules. Having to agree on a workout. Ugh. I use a small corporate gym we have, and it's almost always empty when I'm there. Just how I likes it.

South Central Wisconsin here. I make sure I get outside when I can, even when it's cold, to get my fill of sunlight and fresh air. I got snowshoes last year. but couldn't use them much as it was a fairly dry winter. Looking forward to getting some miles on them this year!

Try Urban Dictionary. That's as far as I'm going to go. I would advise against an image search.

Carrot cake. Alternately, ditch the cake and have pie.

Plan your calorie budget so that you have some calories to spend in the evening. I eat half of my daily calories after 10 PM. And congratulations on your marriage!

Yeah. It shouldn't be a nightmare. Set your calorie goal moderately, be careful that you measure your food accurately, get a little more active, and don't suffer.

Certainly it's fine. Why wouldn't it be?

Nope. Meh. But Mrs Jruzer roasted pumpkin seeds with cinnamon, sugar, and cumin. THAT I'm having problems avoiding.

Speaking as a man who's coming up on his 20th wedding anniversary: I would never, ever, EVER get into such a competition with my wife.

Also: being realistic doesn't mean giving up. People are conflating those two unfairly. What they aren't saying is this:

Flipping this around - would it be responsible for medical professionals to tell you to set unreasonable goals?

Mrs Jruzer made homemade banana bread this weekend from scratch. No empty calories or artificial sweeteners. It went down really well with coffee on our cold, rainy weekend. Does that count?

I prefer the straight truth, even when it hurts. But I could swear that I have read, on these forums, people complaining that their doctors called them fat. "He doesn't have to tell me, I already know!" "She doesn't have to rub it in!"
