Great to see that we've already got some people that are halfway there and it's only the 11th!! Great job, everyone!!!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :drinker:

In high school I went to EVERY game...but only because I was in band! :drinker:

I find that I really like the class setting and if you make friends it's even more incentive to actually go. It becomes a health thing and a social thing. Also, if the gym has weights available (which I assume it does) then that might be a very nice addition to your cardio that you're already doing, which would also help…

I could actually care less about football. I don't think I ever went to a single game.

Watch your sodium, drink TONS of water, and add weight training instead of just doing cardio.

I'm here!! Just been crazy busy with work.

Don't hate!! I'm live in JoMO AND I'm an MSSU alum!

Sorry I've been MIA this week, guys - work has been crazy in accounting land (always is at the beginning of a month) so I haven't been on here much. For those of you looking for the mini-challenge...I posted it somewhere a few pages back, but it will always be posted at the top of the spreadsheet as well. Next week's…

I personally think you shouldn't concerned with going from 108 to 105 - not sure why 3 lbs really makes that much of a difference, but MFP does have protein set pretty low, so it depends on your activity level (how much you're working out). If you work out a ton, then you're probably fine. Protein isn't fat, but can be…

I've been running for a year and still have trouble with the breathing part. It takes practice. Concentrate on breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth and breath from your diaphragm, not your lungs (your belly should go out instead of your shoulders going up).

I have a Garmin FR60 and I love it. It has a chest strap and really, you don't want one that doesn't have a chest strap - they're just not as accurate. I paid around $90 for mine. I'm not sure how obese you actually are, but I was pushing 300 when I got mine and it's worked just fine. If you want it to count steps, though,…

What kind of surface are you running on? Maybe try switching it up. If you always run on a treadmill, try the track or the road a couple times instead - if always outside, try the treadmill. When you got new shoes - did you have an actual gait analysis done? If not, then I strongly suggest doing this to get the right shoe…

Most runners won't touch them, but most chiropractors think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread. My husband runs shorter distances in his just fine, but he hasn't used them for longer runs. I refuse to wear them because I pronate really bad and need the extra support in my shoes that Vibrams just don't have. Yes,…

If it's anything but pure water I don't count it.

Which is only 6 days later...lol

I have about 22 to go. I don't think I'll make it by Christmas, but I'm shooting for New Year's.

I think it's good to get in a mix of cardio and weight training without having to take multiple classes - most gyms emphasize the cardio side a little too much, though.
-
There's probably a nutritional side of it, too - if you haven't fueled properly your body is going to go to the quickest source of fuel, whatever that may be. I don't know as much about that, though.

It has more to do with your heart rate than distance. If you've crossed the threshold into anaerobic exercise (above your target heart rate zone) you could begin to burn muscle instead of fat. Find your target heart rate zone and stay in it to ensure that you're burning fat and not muscle. That goes for any cardio activity.

I understand that hiring a personal trainer isn't an option for everyone, but it's the best investment I have ever made - myself! For this reason, though, I did put my food list and workouts in my blog if you ever want to check it out!

I've been actively trying to lose weight since last November/December and have lost almost 70 pounds. In the past, I would hit that point where it slowed down and got harder and would just give up and gain it all back and then some. I decided this time around that I wasn't going to do that. When I got to this point this…

I will personally never run in them because I pronate really bad and have to have the extra support in my shoes. I've met Jeff Galloway (Olympic gold medalist) and personally talked to him about these kinds of shoes and he said that in his lifetime, he's seen the minimalist fad come and go 5 times (he's well in to his…

Anything that motivates you is worth using to your advantage. I HATE old pictures of me, but it's motivation for me to keep moving forward.

You can't really do much to "make up" for it. There's no way you ate enough calories to gain actual pounds from it, so any weight you do "gain" is probably just water retention. Don't fast - that's stupid - especially if you're working out. Just drink a lot of water to flush the extra sodium, stick to your normal clean…

My go-to breakfast is a protein bar and a banana. I usually have a Zone or a Clif Builder Bar around 8-ish then resort to my banana around 10:30. I guess that would be breakfast and a mid-morning snack, but it works for me! My trainer told me to have protein in the morning and to steer away from really sugary fruits first…
-
Yep! That's fine. You don't have to be a runner - just use the conversion chart if you don't know the actual mileage of whatever activity you're doing. The point is just to get moving!
-
Vibrams aren't for everyone - just know that. Some people can run in them just fine, but a lot of people who pronate really bad or need that extra arch support really shouldn't wear them unless they're just doing shorter runs. Vibrams are made for the ideal foot, so if you get a pair, just be careful and listen to your…

Also - if you're doing any sort of cross-training - don't wear your running shoes. Your running shoes should be just that...running shoes. They can be identical to the shoes you run in, but you need to have a pair that is specifically for running or else you might get some funny wear patterns on them.
-
I have 2, but I just got the second pair a few days ago and actually haven't worn them yet. I did my long run today, so I wore my shoes I've been running in. I'll wear my new ones when I go running Tuesday. There's no need to spend more than $150 on a good pair of shoes. Brooks, Asics, Mizunos, etc...all have good shoes…
