  • Hey! 1) 27 2) 5'3 3) 270-ish 4) In a bit of an exercise lull (husband was in an accident recently), but getting back in to running, cycling, and lifting 5) 1800-2100 6) Don't restrict your calories too much, just eat food that your body recognizes as food. Mix it up (food and exercise) so you don't get bored. I lost about…
  • I don't have personal experience with water running or plantar fasciitis, but I did a little research and found a lot of people recommend water running to help with training through plantar fasciitis. I don't see how it could hurt anything...…
  • By the way, fantastic job on losing so much weight. You look great!!
  • No problem! If you have any more questions about it, feel free to shoot me a message!
  • It records calories burned throughout the day including BMR. My husband works for Garmin fitness and is looking up some additional info, but it's an algorithm based on your user profile and steps throughout the day unless you're using it with a heart rate monitor.
  • And congratulations on your success thus far. You seem to have overcome some very tough obstacles for being so young. Good for you!
  • My question to you would be, is 130 really an ideal weight for you? Based on the BMI scale, maybe, but what about your body fat %? How much muscle mass do you have? Is your little bit of weight gain actually due to muscle and not fat? If you're around 150 and your body fat % is in the healthy range, I don't think you…
  • I was more monitored by the personal trainer, than the doctor, so no blood glucose monitoring. The PT mainly monitored my eating and exercise. As I stated, it took 5 different doctors to actually get a diagnosis. The medical side was actually fairly unhelpful. There was some "try this diet" and "eat less, exercise more"…
  • ^ Again, I don't disagree with anything you said. Everything you said is very good, solid advice. I was just probing for more information from people who have actually successfully lost weight with PCOS. I appreciate your input and hope I didn't come off as rude, as that was not my intention.
  • It's not necessarily in regards to dieting. It's a way to make your coffee pack a punch without adding tons of crap to it. And it's not just any coffee roasted by whoever. It's his own special stuff. http://www.bulletproofexec.com/how-to-make-your-coffee-bulletproof-and-your-morning-too/
  • I don't disagree with anything you said here, but how is this any different from what a person who doesn't have PCOS should do? PCOS has it's own set of complications that, even if everything you mentioned above is done, weight loss still doesn't happen. I know this because I speak from experience. It took me 7 months and…
  • Bumping for later. I was diagnosed with PCOS last year and have had a hell of a time losing weight because of it.
  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this post! I admire you for STARTING your year with an awesome feat and not just PLANNING to do some awesome feat. Way to go! I fully believe you can do anything you set your mind to! :drinker:
  • Current: senior accountant at a CPA firm Dream: a musician - not the famous kind, just the care-free, free-spirited kind with just enough to get by
  • The Biggest Loser DVD's are what I was going to suggest, too. I think they're, like, $10 at Wal-Mart. I don't like the way they go about things on the show, but their DVD's are actually pretty good, and there are different levels so you can ease yourself in to it.
  • Look at that smile in the after picture! It's got a little sass to it! Great job, and keep up the good work!
  • Good coffee doesn't need anything added to it. If you don't like it black, it either wasn't made right or you don't really like coffee.
  • Trader Joe's is AMAZING! They have real, whole food at affordable prices! I moved recently and have one just around the corner from where I work. I can get almost everything I need there and don't feel bad about what I'm putting into my body.
  • I'm currently 247#. I don't do Insanity, but I do CrossFit. If there's something you just can't do, scale it down to something you can do. One of my favorite quotes by John Wooden: "Don't let what you can't do stop you from doing what you can do." I can't do toes to bar, but I can hang from the bar and bring my knees up. I…
  • I agree with this. The key to losing the stubborn fat is just to reduce your overall body fat percentage. Do more strength training to build muscle/burn fat and eat clean. The rest will work itself out.
  • Seriously? You need to be talking to people who actually know what they're talking about. Low-fat is a hoax; always has been. Dietary fat isn't what makes people fat. It's all the processed crap (mainly excess hollow carbs) your body sees as toxins that gets stored in your fat cells that makes us fat. Look at science and…
  • www.rufusracing.com has a really good beginner training plan to complete a sprint triathlon. Up your calories gradually. Don't make quick, drastic changes. And be sure you're getting in plenty of weight training, and not just cardio. Pay more attention to your body fat %, because if you DO do weight training, you may…
  • Why would paleo be bad for children? It's just clean, unprocessed foods. Meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, berries, REAL food. From a health standpoint, it's probably one of the best "diets" there are. And it's actually sustainable. The only reason they cut out dairy, legumes, and grains is because of the inflammatory…
  • Thanks for sharing! I recently started CrossFit and they're really big into Paleo, so I've been looking in to it for myself. We pretty much each clean/unprocessed anyway, so it wouldn't be a big change for us. Keep up the good work!
  • I agree 100% with this statement. Eat what you like. Don't try to force yourself to eat something you just, plain and simple, don't like. That being said, creamed cauliflower soup is AMAZING! Skinnytaste.com has a creamed asparagus soup recipe that I adapted in to creamed cauliflower soup. I may never make potato soup…
  • LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!! I wish more people, ESPECIALLY women, would realize that severe calorie restriction is NOT the way to lose weight! Congratulations on your progress!
  • I don't think she treated Nikki any different than she has any other contestant on any other season. TC and Nate got kicked out of the gym the first day, too, but they both came back with a vengeance. If you noticed right before Nikki left, she mentioned something about getting therapy once she gets back home. She clearly…
  • You can't spot reduce - reduce overall body fat % and the problem spots will be reduced as well. Less cardio, more heavy lifting - no barbie weights. And regarding your diet - are you eating ENOUGH fat? Low-fat diets are notorious for making people fat. If your body isn't getting enough good, healthy fats, it will hold on…
  • If your energy levels are so low that you think you need a supplement to feel better, you might consider talking to your doctor. I've actually been to 4 different doctors because I had any and every hypothyroid symptom - come to find out, my testosterone was very low and my T3 (the active thyroid hormone) was also low. TSH…
