It's taken me since mid-January - so we're at 7 months almost (29 weeks I think?). Just shy of one pound per week. I am totally comfortable with that, as I think my loss and plan has been sustainable for me.

@hmmillinor - not really! No magic... I've just stuck with it, even if I have imperfect days or a week here and there. I think it's easy to get off track when you're comfortable with your weight (as I am). Personally, high protein, low sugar/carb, restricting processed foods, and eating at home (cutting back on dining out)…

Hate kale chips. The only way I will eat it is in soup. The sausage/white bean one that was posted is good. Any variation on a "tuscan" soup. Thanks for the reminder... I accidentally got a bunch in my produce delivery last week and keep putting off using it. Will have to make soup... in August... *sigh* ;)

I'm jumping on the Krema bandwagon! It is a small-er local company with a quality product. But, you can just as easily make your own. Some health foods stores also have fresh pb on site, so you can bring your own container or use a plastic tub that they provide. You might also try almond butter - yum yum!

This company has a history of being extraordinarily size-ist and generally crappy to women over a certain size. About a year and a half ago, I went to my first Lulu store, all kinds of excited because I saw so many women at yoga/my gym/in my running group wearing the cute clothes with the cool logo. They weren't rude at…

It helps me to look at the menu before leaving, and see if I can work in a meal into my goal for the day. Maybe see if you can find it online (urbanspoon, yelp, restaurant website) and see if you can find something that works for you. You might be able to find a salad or a sandwich without the bread/bun for the same…

IMO, it's easier to eat at nicer places than lower-end or even mid-range restaurants. Because they're using higher quality ingredients, as long as you steer clear of dishes with a lot of butter or cream, you're getting less added crap (salt & fat), I think. That said, I agree with what everyone else has said - there are…

I'm in turtle mode ... very slow but hopefully long term lifestyle. I started (this time) at 181, 5'4", 30 y.o. in mid-January of this year. I am down 23 lbs and sitting at about 158 (flirting with 157). I run (jog), walk, do hip hop/zumba classes, lift, bootcamp/circuit/body weight work. But honestly, it's all about…

I agree that strength training and patience will help. I don't really believe that lotion will help saggy body skin (but I do swear by retinol and good moisturizers for my face and neck - that's more of an aging/sun thing). My friends who have lost ~100lbs or more have had surgery to remove the skin. It's generally…

Vodka (plain or flavored), rum, or good gin with soda and a lime. Low calorie, not obnoxious, and will do the job. ;)

I see a lot of guys who dip (chewing tobacco) at the gym. It is so insanely gross. I would definitely judge you if I saw you smoking an e-cig at the gym.

Okay okay, I'm sorry I was snarky... after being here 7 months and being mostly appropriate, this question was just... my breaking point. No, don't log it. Congratulations that you're so committed to MFP, but seriously. If you have a cold and you're eating bland but real food, log it. If you're so ill that you're concerned…

Agreed regarding refined - it does not lose its nutritional qualities, but it will likely have less of a coconut smell. I like Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. You can order it in a three-pack from Amazon and it's a bit cheaper than buying it at the grocery store.

So many great comments in this thread! Way to go everyone! (Especially congrats to the woman who posted about doing push-ups on her toes for the first time, and to the poster who said they worked out in the morning even though they were crabby and didn't want to!) I am wearing a very narrow (Nordstrom) size 14 skinny pant.…

Oh wow... I missed this. This is so ridiculous! Women who don't fit your perception of "superathletic" are necessarily desperate? Do you have many female friends? There are women of all shapes, sizes, and athletic capabilities that run because we love the sport. I have run two half marathons, a 15K, and a dozen 5 and 10ks…

The original question was about free exercise. I'm not even reading or getting into the other stuff. IMO, one of the best forms of free exercise is Bodyweight training - squats, planks, pushups, more physically demanding yoga (not just stretching), lunges, and variations on these. You can get in a major sweat-inducing…

Have you taken your own measurements? Sometimes it's hard to see a loss on the scale due to a number of factors, but pay attention to your measurements. Get a tape measure and track your arms, bust, waist, hips and thighs. I bet you'll love what you'll see. If you're working out 2-3 hours a day, I don't think 1500 calories…

bump... yummmm

You've gotten a lot of good responses to your specific questions, so I'll just add this: Giving up a gym membership was LIBERATING for me! I now workout 4-5 times per week in the morning, plus I usually add an evening or two workout, and I've been making sure to walk more during the day. I love being able to wear whatever…

I make a leek and potato soup that is very creamy, but non-dairy. The key is to use yukon gold potatoes (not russets or idaho). Lightly brown cleaned chopped leeks, garlic, and scallions if you wanna get fancy. Use a little butter or EVOO. Cook the clean quartered potatoes until soft, with skin, drain off most of the…

Jillian Michaels workouts are tough! Good for you for keeping up with it. IMO, and I didn't look at your diary, but pay attention to not just how much but also WHAT you're eating. Upping natural lean protein, cutting back on sugar and carb calories, and focusing on lots of veggies may help break you through your stall.…

Oooh this sounds great! I will need to try this. Thanks for posting!

Southwest Quinoa Salad - black beans, corn, cilantro, lime, quinoa, tomato etc.... Here's a recipe, but I pretty just make it as I feel like it. Don't forget the cumin! http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/quinoa_salad_with_black_beans_corn_and_tomatoes/ Also... I have been gluten-free for 5+ years and missed my mom's…

Have you seen Tanya's low-impact exercise instead of burpees? They're kind of like standing supermans (you can raise your back leg for added core work). In Alpha Total Body Circuit, she does some other alternative exercises while the rest of the group is doing floor work. I'd suggest checking out those exercises and…

No stressing! It's only your first fitting anyway. You're going to be beautiful at whatever weight. Do whatever you feel most comfortable, but I do think that most attempts to cover up only emphasize the perceived flaws you think you're trying to hide anyway. You are who you are, and as much as we think we're going to be…

@OP: Don't worry about finishing over 3 hours. I was about 180 lbs when I did my first half marathon as a 26 year old woman. I think I finished in about 3:00, around a 13+ minute/mile average. I was a bit faster with my second marathon (under 3 hours), but it was a much flatter course. There are a lot of walkers and people…

1L and 2L were the hardest years for me and I gained almost 40 lbs from when I started, so 15 lbs isn't so bad! I dropped 20 during 3L, and the rest AFTER the bar exam! I just made it a priority to get back in the gym. Law school sucks, but you made it through! Congratulations! Good luck on the bar exam and getting back…
