  • Hang in there, OP! It can be hard to hear people comment about our bodies (even more than usual during pregnancy). Maybe think about how we raise our daughters (especially, but kids of all genders, too!) - I know my mom was always so fixated on her weight, others', and mine, and really created a sense of worth around…
  • Thanks @enterdanger . I was active on MFP from Jan. 2014 to end of 2015 and lost about 35+ lbs in that time. I took a break bc it was too much with TTC (took us a while). I just got back on here bc I was struggling w overeating again and worried about gaining too much.
  • Bump! Interested too.
  • I think one true rest day a week is important to avoid injury and burnout. I also like one day a week that is specifically for low intensity stretching like a yoga class or video. It's really important to give your muscles some recovery time since you're breaking them down to build them up. I am not a Dr or fitness…
  • If people really had critical thinking skills, they'd realize that almost every study quoted by the media rarely has ANY facts supporting causation. I limit diet soda and other artificial sweeteners because of other reasons, but this constant harping on "diet soda/fake sugar makes you fat" is asinine and unhelpful. Now,…
  • I'm kind of doing the same thing. I am not changing my calorie goal on here, though, because that gives me way too much permission. But yeah, there have been a few days interspersed where I'm 600 calories over "goal" which is right about maintenance, and I'm shooting for a 250-500 cal deficit on "non-festive" days. :)
  • I weigh in every other week, or three weeks per month (I skip the week before my period because personally I will get discouraged by the water weight gain). I measure only about every two months. I agree with @sarahrbraun - do what works for you. Don't let the scale or tape measure control your healthy habits.
  • I'm not going to lie... I get pedicures and buy new clothes when I want, not when I hit a new goal... but I did buy myself a new workout outfit and new jeans when I lost 25lbs. Though that was more of "i'm tired of my clothes falling off of me" than a reward. The changes I am seeing in the mirror and my capabilities in…
  • Yoga Meltdown (another Jillian Michaels program) and LIFT! You can get a great strength workout done in 30 minutes with a few sets of dumbbells/kettlebells. You will be happier with the physique change than by just doing cardio.
  • I'm in a very similar situation (actually very similar numbers, too!) I think what has me motivated to keep logging and staying accountable is that I am terrified of not being able to maintain. I have eased up on the deficit, so I'm happier with a much much slower loss (I'd even be okay with maintaining). I am so happy…
  • If you really want to save calories for guacamole and/or a marg, ask them to cook your fajitas in broth and not oil. And avoid cheese. One ounce is a Damn small portion for 100 calories. But I echo what others have said - if it's not all the time and you enjoy it, then don't worry to much and have a great dinner!
  • at first i was like "lolz" and then i was like "pick up heavy things and put them down" ... and sure enough...
  • Boom! Way to go! Doesn't it feel great? I personally love the 10k-15k distance (half marathon training gets a little too time-consuming for me), but it is SO awesome to know that you can do it. Pretty soon, 5ks are going to be your evening workout - something just to do because it feels good to get in a "quick run." :)
  • Lots and lots of variations on Mujadara, a Lebanese/Middle Eastern dish. Basically, it's rice and lentils, cooked together with salt and any other spice you like. 2 parts water to 1 part dry ingredients (i.e. 4 cups water to 1 cup rice and 1 cup lentils). Clean the lentils and rinse, add to large sauce pot, dutch oven, or…
  • Wow. What strength and commitment! You must really be a numbers person, too! Congrats on finishing your chemo treatments and best wishes during radiation treatments.
  • Amen @Joannah700! I am 31 and I CELEBRATED turning 30! It is a fabulous age. Old enough to know who I am, have some direction and idea of what I'm doing in my career, but still feeling like I have the best years ahead of me. I DEF don't want to look like who I was in my early 20s.... That said... yes, Sunscreen. Working…
  • Congratulations. What a journey it must have been.
  • When I moved in with my now-husband, I gained. I was hungry when I got home from work, so I'd snack, and then we'd eat dinner together. Plus, we were happy and loving being together, so lots of cheese and wine. :) But, ultimately, it was up to me to not snack [eta: on high calorie foods, and choose fruits and veggies…
  • I use real half and half. I measure 1 or 2 Tbs depending on the size of my mug/tumbler. It is 20 calories per tablespoon, and it is very very worth it. If I really want to have a sweetener, I use 1 Tbs (measured) sugar free hazelnut syrup. I know it's full of chemicals, but it's really good  . I also will…
  • In went to maintenance for the 10 days between my rehearsal dinner, wedding, and honeymoon. I gained 1.5 lbs. The next week, I lost 2.5 lbs. Then the week after, I lost 1.8 lbs. I only have my settings set to .5 lb loss/week and I eat roughly 1400 - 1900 cal/day (gross, not net). I am within my last 10 lbs!!! (I can't…
  • My sister in law just told me about Ben & Jerry's "Greek Yogurt" Banana Peanut Butter Frozen Yogurt... while I was at Target... where it was being sold... er. mah. gerd. (210 calories for half a cup... not nice!)
  • Our grocery store sells field greens with fresh herbs mixed in - fresh cilantro, fresh dill, fresh basil, fresh oregano. I love the flavors and it's even turned me on to dill. This may help liven up your greens. Also being gluten-intolerant, I'm pretty used to turning an entree or sandwich into a salad. Don't be afraid to…
  • I am seriously a beet junkie. Red, golden, all of the above. I clean (scrub) them, cut the tops off, then drizzle them with truffle oil or olive oil and sprinkle smoked paprika and sea salt. Loosely wrap them in foil and roast at 400 deg until they are fork tender, about 45 minutes. Let cool and peel off the exterior skin.…
  • I would suggest looking for produce on clearance/manager's special (essentially, it's going out of date). Then get it home, blanch it or parboil it and freeze it. I also echo the suggestions about lentil/bean dishes. Dried lentils and beans are cheaper than canned, they just take more time to rehydrate. Best wishes, that…
  • +1 :D I get where the comment about weighing was coming from. I love my scale and it's especially helpful for protein (meat) sizes. But, literally counting out crackers or nuts is still portion control, even if you're slightly off with exact calories.
  • @abuck_13 thanks for posting this! sounds great and I love "lightened up" recipes that keep a lot of flavor and don't use a lot of fake or replacement ingredients.
