You look taller! Nice muscles, too, we can really see them now. WAY TO GO! I am 48 and it is great to see this.

The first stage of weight loss is reduction of hepatic (liver) glycogen stores. Water and glycogen are stored together in a 4:1 ratio, so not all of the pounds you have lost can be valued at 3500 kilocalories. Once you have depleted your liver glycogen stores, the 3500 kcal per pound number will be more accurate, but never…

You look fabulous! Congratulations!

I started lifting heavy weights at about 250 pounds (I am now just around 209), and I wish I had started earlier! And yes, my weight loss stalled for five full weeks after I started lifting, then at the end of that time, virtually overnight, I dropped 12 pounds. It was really difficult to keep motivated in the setting of…

Well done, you! Congratulations!

That's great! I remember my first day clearly, and now, in what seems like an instant, I am on day 241, having lost 71 pounds! Time will fly and you will be really glad you started today.

Does anyone know if one should be wearing the Band on one's dominant or non-dominant wrist? I am guessing non-dominant, like Fitbit.

You are so lovely and strong! Great job!

Me too! I actually considered going to one of those weight loss spa-places for a month, but I didn't want to leave my husband and kids for that long. I have found, however, that I can do it for myself at home. I log everything I eat, the good, the bad, and the highly caloric, and try to not get too freaked out by it.

Looking at your profile, it seems like you have been able to lose quite a bit of weight! That is terrific! I know it is tempting to think about fasting, or doing something extreme after a binge to try to negate its effects, but I have found that when I have a day of overeating it is best to just get back on track the next…

Oh, Lordie, I stopped the conversation cold with that last remark!

Oh, my goodness, I am probably going to regret posting this, and I hope I don't out anybody off, but... I love men in speedos the same way I love men in tighty-whities or fitted boxer-briefs, because I like to see a man's bulge, regardless of how objectively "fit" he is.

Looking super-cute! Congratulations! You will enjoy Stronglifts 5x5, I have been doing it for about five months.
-
Great job, and you are a total fox!
-
You are fabulously handsome! Congratulations on your success!
-
You are a lovely young woman and I am very happy for you! Congratulations!

P.S. Consider getting a Fitbit, that way you can monitor your step activity at work and try to get extra steps while there.

I found that staying within a calorie budget every day and incorporating exercise and weightlifting into my week I had increased energy almost immediately, even before the pounds started coming off. There is something very therapeutic about taking care of one's self, especially when one has lots of competing demands, like…

You look absolutely lovely and you earned it, through all of your hard work and dedication. Congratulations!

When I started working out regularly, after about two months of solid weight loss through food logging on MFP, my weight loss stalled to nothing for almost 6 weeks. At the end of the six weeks I dropped about 10 pounds in two days. I think it was a combination of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), which can cause water…

I use the Stronglifts 5x5 program and I only increase by 1 pound/exercise each time (the app allows one to adjust increase levels) because I found that my form was starting to get crummy adding five pounds to each exercise each lifting session. I started very light (just the bar on most exercises), am increasing slowly,…

I use Stronglifts 5x5 as well. I usually lift alone, (in a cage, free weights only), although if my husband is home he and I sometimes lift together. If I have questions about form, I watch youtube videos and also ask my husband to watch me and critique what I am doing.

I am hoping to do exactly that. I started at 280 pounds, my goal is 140 pounds, and I am currently down 64 pounds, so not quite halfway there.

I eat semi-sweet chocolate chips, one tablespoon at a time. One tablespoon is about 21 chips, 70 calories. It helps when I have a severe chocolate craving.

I wonder about this myself, I read an article recently (sorry, I don't recall the source, but it seemed legitimate) which suggested that it can be very difficult to try to modify two behaviors at the same time. I have been trying to change one behavior a month (month 1, log and adhere to caloric budget, month 2, start…

Also, people who are fat usually have a fair bit of lean body mass (including muscle) because we have been hauling around a lot of extra personal poundage over time. So in fact, OP, as an overweight person, you are probably particularly qualified to start lifting weights!
-
I started Stronglifts 5x5 when I weighed about 250 pounds. I had started losing weight two months earlier, with a beginning weight of 280 pounds. I should mention that I am a woman, and I am 47 years old. I had very little experience with heavy lifting prior to this. I felt like a big, fat, ungainly dork my first day…

You can do it, sweetie! I am trying to lose 140 pounds; it seemed like a ridiculous goal six months ago when I started, but I have lost 61 pounds so far! Go for it!!! I used to eat an entire pint of ice cream (1200 calories) nightly for years. I was surprised to learn that those impulses can be curbed and redirected, but I…

Thanks for writing this! It contains so much wisdom. I especially appreciate what you say about habits being key, and about how exercise is now an integral, kind of non-negotiable part of your day. It confirms what I have been discovering! The first day I logged onto MFP my plan was to merely observe what I was eating, but…
