You may not have been exercising for a long enough time. A counselor I saw about a year ago - who teaches at a local college - told me that it can take two months for the benefits of exercise on depression to kick in. She also told me that it has to be vigorous exercise - you have to sweat and get your heart rate up.…

For me the saying weight is lost in the kitchen is true. Even at my age and with my issues I can lose weight just with diet, and no exercise. Definitely eat breakfast. Then yes, run with the kids you coach. Short 5-10 minutes multiple times a day works too. As tired as you are you might want to look into supplements that…

That's a tough one. I know a lot of people will accept advice from strangers or experts that they won't accept from their spouse. Could that be happening here? A couple ideas come to mind. One is to make a chart of the things that she can do to accomplish her goals - like eat protein, exercise, reduce carbs, etc. Ask her…

Not silly, I have the same problem. If its chocolate and in my house i eat it first. A bag of candy lasts about 24 hours (half in late afternoon/evening, the rest the next day.) Oddly enough if someone else buys it - like when I was married and my husband bought chocolate - I wouldn't touch it because in my mind it is…

I don't take all every day - I change it based on how I'm feeling: multivitamin with iron, on heavy days or if I'm getting a lot of headaches I take an iron supplement CoQ10 5HTP (nightly - I'm consistent on this one) Vitamin D3 (2000 mg) fairly consistently particularly when we have a lot of dark days or I'm starting to…

Lowfat greek yogurt. You can flavor it by mixing in your favorite protein powder (I mix in chocolate protein powder.) Or you can heat up some frozen blueberries in the microwave, sprinkle on some cinnamon then add a couple tablespoons of lowfat greek yogurt. Very good.

I have bad knees so I typically rotate between elliptical, walking on the treadmill and an upright exercise bike (upright requires you to engage more core muscles). I split the time I'm going to do cardio evenly between the three so my body doesn't adapt. This morning I did 20 minutes on each. On the treadmill I'll start…

Bread isn't necessarily bad, you just need to watch that the calories fit your daily number and that the ratio of carb to protein is appropriate for you. Look for high fiber breads - they will fill you up better and are better for overall health. Low fiber breads seem to encourage bloating. Having celiac disease and with…

Don't think of it as dieting. It helps me to focus on eating healthier and trying to match the macros for things like fiber and sugar. That way you have successes every day. The weight loss is a side benefit. Focus on how much stronger you feel for the workouts, how your muscles are changing. Before you choose the extra…

I microwave frozen blueberries for a couple minutes, then mix in lowfat plain greek yogurt. It's very good. If I want it sweeter I put in a tiny bit of real sugar.

Would you go out and buy it? Would you let a co-worker force feed it to you? If not, then why let someone else's choice to bring it in make your decision? It sounds like you already know you will regret it, so are the few minutes of taste worth the sugar crash and the regret later? Or you can pretend you have celiac…

If you're open to making your own I like to take frozen fruit (one that says it is for smoothies, or a strawberry mango pineapple type blend), about a cup or so, half a cup of Lite Chocolate Silk (soymilk), half scoop to a scoop of chocolate protein powder (some are better than others so experiment with what is available…

Talk to your doctor about what is happening on this new birth control pill and see if there is another option. Even consider doing research to find a doctor that people recommend as being good with balancing medications and symptoms and change doctors. Seriously. I won't bore you with details but I have found repeatedly…

Not a bit. If they look, who cares? All I ask of either sex is that they aren't grabbing me without permission or conducting PDAs that reach "get a room - tmi" level.

Totally brag-worthy. You earned it, go ahead and brag! Congratulations on sticking with it.

Clearly that person wasn't trying hard enough to be human. That person has the problem, not you.

Because I stink at selfies.

When I make Quaker Oats plain oatmeal in the microwave I add in frozen blueberries and cut the amount of water I use. Then if I want it sweeter I add a little maple syrup or brown sugar. Alternatively I make the plain oatmeal then add a tablespoon of peanut butter. The heat melts the peanut butter and there is so much…

Why not save it, especially if there isn't anything you want or need now. Then you'll have it when something does come up (like a vacation.) If you really need to spend it, I'd go for experiences. Do something you've never done, a glass blowing class, kayaking or a trip.

I'd suggest making this a separate topic. I think you'd get lots of responses.

Cottage cheese is my favorite chip dip. It's great with anything crunchy or salty.

Don't knock it, I'd say you're both hanging out at the right places!

In the parking lot of Five Points Bar in Atlanta (I think that was the name). It was one of those places where people hang outside rather than inside. Three sweet looking, kinda innocent guys come up to me and a co-worker and say "How would you and your friend like to go to bed with me and my two friends tonight?" Nope,…

Have you thought about experimenting with new recipes that are healthy and your favorites? For example, I've recently seen brownie recipes using beans. You could also contact local community groups, girl scout troups, etc. to see if they'd like a cooking demonstration or lessons. What saved me when I was diagnosed with…

3 pounds with good nutrition sounds better. One other rule of thumb to consider - listen to your body. If you're light headed, feeling weak or otherwise not feeling healthy then you are probably pushing it. Stressing your body too much can trigger lifelong illnesses so listen to what it is telling you. Good luck!

Ok, my thoughts went to snarky first (as in "how did you get to be so shallow?") Seriously, go with your feelings. Answer what you want to. If you feel a question isn't genuine or is coming from a negative place feel free to tell them you don't care to discuss it. When someone is draining your happiness or your pride in…

Also, if you belong to Amazon Prime you can download a lot of workout videos for free (ex. they have a lot of Jillian Michaels workouts). If you have a wifi and computer you could workout anywhere and change it up to keep things interesting.

Hey, there are no missteps, just decisions. Everyone decides to go eat less healthy sometimes. My advice is to focus on the statistics like fiber, fat, sugar and the impact that different combinations have on your projected 5 week weight loss (its shown on the end of day report.) That will let you focus on eating healthier…

Spinach salads help with iron, I think carrots and sweet potatos have vitamin A (you can cook the potato in the microwave - great alone or with a little cinnamon sprinked on it.) I can't seem to get enough from what I eat so I take a supplement.

If you have a Costco nearby their party trays and salads are great. You can get fruit, meats, cheeses all decoratively arranged. Or go with a theme like South of the Border, have a build your own taco bar with all the fixings and some heated up refried beans and spanish rice. Chicken cooked in a skillet with a little lime…
