  • I wanted to respond saying, "What do you mean? Those aren't puppies..." but then I thought you might ACTUALLY think I was really that stupid... so I decided not to.
  • I like this. I especially like inclusion of trans* people and intersex people. Well written and a good message.
  • You can be slimmer than 220 lbs. In fact, it's far healthier for you to be under 220 lbs (although I don't know your height, that's almost certainly overweight/obese BMI). I don't know who these 'others' are who suggest only 40 lbs - if it's a doctor than ignore this - but if it's your friends saying that, be very careful…
  • Immediately after an exercise session you will have lost a lot of sweat and be dehydrated and you'll tend to weigh less. For a few days after a strength exercise session, if your muscles are sore they'll retain water and you'll tend to weigh more. I'd just be aware of the fact your reading won't be as reliable if you…
  • Mine have gone from a tight B cup to a tight A cup now. I prefer having a smaller chest, so I'm perfectly happy with it. Bigger breasts doesn't suit my personality. I don't think many other women share my opinion...
  • Incredible transformation for just 15 lbs. Hopefully that means you're mainly losing fat and not muscle mass... keep going, all the C25K is doing you good :)
  • I'm sure you have seen this all before, but for the benefit of people who don't know me, I've got a fairly interesting graph that documents my weight gain from the age of about 17. All courtesy of my mum's scrawled-on post-it notes... http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/helenium/view/why-yo-yo-dieting-is-a-waste-of-time-106015
  • If your muscles are feeling sore, they may be retaining water, which would increase your weight on the scale. This'll pass. As you said, a week is too little time to tell. Give it a month and you'll be seeing changes if you're doing it right.

  • I love this - this is my favourite reply so far. My quick thrill would be making myself coffee when I'm working towards a deadline (e.g. an essay). It's something about having something so warming and smooth to ease you through the early hours of relentless scribbling... The dark side: I have had to cut back to 4 coffees a…
  • I used to listen to music but have since stopped taking headphones with me (I still take my phone in order to track distance). I never really listened to the music, and my tastes (classical/romantic music) don't really fit running (unless it's Shostakovich). I enjoy listening to the sounds of wherever I am, and being able…
  • Thanks for sharing. Enjoy the Leicester Square cinema ;)
  • I used C25k to get to 5K, although I achieved it in less time than the plan allowed for... after week 5 I could just run 5K no problems. Now I've just come back from an 8K run, and I currently run between 8 - 10K. I'm slowly building up to a half-marathon in September! It's thanks to the C25k program that I went from a…
  • Just checked your ticker and you say you've got 49 lbs to lose - I don't think you'll find excess skin a problem - as far as I can tell, that only becomes a problem if you have 100+ lbs to lose.
  • While I agree with what you're saying - i.e., women who speak up about their rape experience rarely result in a conviction... far, far more straight men are too ashamed of having been raped by a man to ever say anything*. This phenomenon is only compounded by the extremely woman-dominated focus of rape. If we treated it as…
  • You're female, so you're not going to bulk up by accident. It's very difficult to bulk up for a female - pretty much impossible. Push up (US) = Press up (UK) http://www.hundredpushups.com

  • One thing - it's implying that women are the only ones to get raped. Men are raped, as is anyone on the gender spectrum. It's a lot harder for men to come forward about rape because it's seen as a 'women's problem', and there's less help available. It's even harder for transexuals to come forward. Other than that, I…
  • Save up for a grinder. I have a grinder that was about £30 (therefore probably around $45) and the *difference* it makes to the coffee is incredible. Freshly ground coffee > packaged ground coffee. Ground or not ground, I highly recommend Nepalese coffee for a silky smooth texture... but if you like a bit of a kick from…
  • If you find yourself giving up often, perhaps you're going about it too aggressively. Small changes over a long period are better than big changes for a brief time. Think about it! Good luck!

  • Gosh! You look incredible. Even at your higher weights you don't even have a double chin. I still have a slight double chin and I'm at 154 pounds! What a change... good luck getting to your goal weight - phenomenal progress.
  • Have a good holiday. Just a quick note - if you're exercising in a very hot environment, you're quite likely to lose a lot of fluid and salt in your sweat. Please don't rehydrate yourself with pure water every time, or you are running a very high risk. Do have the occasional isotonic beverage (preferably without caffeine)…
  • Hello! I was doing the C25K and got up to the 20 minute run like you did (I covered about 1.5 miles). Then I deviated from the plan. Almost immediately I could start running 5Ks at the current level of fitness I was at. I never completed weeks 6 - 9. 5Ks became my standard run and I eventually got my time down from 42:42…
  • Hey there, you've exceeded your bandwidth on photobucket! Looks like those photos have been shared a bit too many times... it would be nice to see them, so perhaps you can host them on a different site (or Dropbox)? H
  • I use it for my running and it's been rather wonderful so far.
  • Oh ladyhawk! When you said there wasn't a significant difference between the before/after pictures on your newsfeed, I believed you! Now I don't. There's a very impressive difference especially in the abdomen and legs. I'm so sorry you can't see it easily yourself. And, if there's more progress to be seen in the 3D version…
  • It's probably not a common NSV - but it's great that your subconscious is starting to see yourself as a 'small person', because that means you should have fewer self-esteem issues (some people - like me - can't easily shrug the 'fat person' image from their head)! I should take a leaf out of your book. Or at least, my…
  • It's a problem many people on here face. I was well on the way to developing a very difficult addiction to unhealthy food before I cut it dead. The first few weeks are awful. Some scientific evidence suggest that addiction to food is similar to addiction to other substances (including heroin). It may help to use a smoking…
  • From my experience. Self-esteem is not inversely proportional to weight, it's completely independent of it. Some people get the wrong idea and think self-esteem gets better as they lose weight - and try to drop to unhealthy levels when it doesn't attack the route of the problem. Self-esteem is attainable but it takes a…

  • I have never thought of integrating functions on a run. Thanks for the idea! My runs should last a lot longer now...
  • I carry out mental arithmetic over and over. It's usually something like this: "If I run 8 km, and I go at 6 mph an hour, how long will it take me? 6 * 1.6 = 9.6 km... 8 / 9.6 = erm.... 80 / 96... 20 / 24...5 / 6... 0.83... * 60 = 50 minutes! Phew!" (I never run this fast :( )
