  • I am a heavy runner. I wear a loose dri-fit or even a lightweight cotton t-shirt and thick compression shorts because I like how they feel. And nope, I don't wear baggy shorts over them. The most important parts of my "heavy runner" wardrobe are Bodyglide and an Enell bra.
  • This is an old thread but I always have to put a plug in for Columbia Bottoms in North city/county. I grew up in Wyoming and need to get away from people as often as possible, preferably without driving very far. Columbia bottoms is super close and never, ever crowded. I love it. Another really great nearby place is the…
  • Serious case of the blahs over here. Workout a couple days ago - failed all my weights on the last rep except OHP. LOVE OHP!! I thought I was really sore and maybe injured afterward but it turns out I have the flu or something. Fever/body aches, etc. Going to rest for a week probably and deload. Squats to 150 DL to 200 and…
  • Thanks guys for the encouragement and wisdom.
  • two eggs scrambled with a lot of greens, usually I have bag of defrosted spinach or kale in the fridge to make it faster. If I am not up for cooking, full fat plain greek yogurt with black-strap molasses is my most favorite thing in the world and is super satisfying and protein-fat-riffic.
  • Thanks for posting this. Going to de-load my squats again to deal with a weird pain.
  • I don't understand. They stick out during your weightlifting but not afterward. What is the worry? You can't "build" non-muscle tissue.
  • They're on my birthday list!
  • Just a quick note to add that if you are doing anything less than 135 you will want to get the bar on a platform or a couple stacked plates so that its high enough My only motivation to do pendalay rows is to hopefully someday build up to 135 and then it wlll be way less annoying. :)
  • I noticed in The New Rules of Fitness for older folks (the only one I have looked at) that there were some really good exercises for improving flexibility and pre-squat strength. I'd say working to ensure that you aren't struggling with the motion, balance and flexibility would be a good place to start - supported squats…
  • Nice workout! I am big boobed and do wear cleavagy-shirts. I wear an Enell bra to lift. So there isn't bouncing/hanging from the v-neck. With big boobs it seems that anything thats not a baggy turtleneck .... enhances - so wear whatever you feel comfy in.
  • I wish you were my personal trainer, lol! Thank you for your thoughst - i repeated 220 1x5 and had pretty good form for 4 reps and should have "reset" for my 5th. Hands were slipping and I felt the bar swing/my back round a little. I think I will continue adding weight (and maybe chalk) and allowing the re-set.
  • I am at heavy-for-me weights and it is exhausting and I am working *hard* but I never feel like you would after a HIIT workout. Its just different. I really only sweat a lot with deadlifts.
  • I just glanced at one day on your diary. You aren't eating much - for many people eating a very low calorie diet triggers binging. Its not just you. Maybe adjust your expectations to losing half a pound a week or whatever so that you can eat more and, paradoxically, end up eating less.
  • Thats interesting. Part of why I stand up and re-set is that my form is still so fragile and it falls apart if I don't do the full set-up everytime. Even with lighter weights.
  • This video - and all this dudes videos made my night last night. So funny. Last nights workout after my break was great. Maybe a week off now and then is a good thing to recover completely. Warmup 20 min run Squat warmups, not sure what exactly, but about 5 sets. Squats 170 5x5 - failed set 4 at 4 OHP 77.5 (LOVE…
  • Because of my wonderfully unpredictable and exhausting job I have not lifted in 8 days. I was literally heading to the basement last night to workout when I got called to another birth. However, I got enough sleep and am hoping everyone stays pregnant long enough for me to work out tonight after the kids go to bed. I did…
  • Couch to 5k - repeating days when you need to - for time (not distance) is a great start for fat runners. I've been a fat runner for 8 years. Was a non-fat runner for three years before that. (sidenote: running doesn't make you skinny). One thing that is super important to keep in mind is that, for most folks and…
  • Today was good even though we started at 10pm.... Squat 165 5x5. This is a repeat for me and I felt really strong except for this same annoying pain - I think it might actually be my round ligaments. But I will go ahead and move up to 170 since the weight felt good and doable. Bench @ 120! I have no idea why this is so…
  • That makes more sense! Thanks!

  • I'm fine with it actually. I ran when I was 150 pounds and when I was over 250 pounds and everything in between (10 years or so). I think of it more as meditation, therapy and health insurance :).
  • I think wanting to "be a runner" is a totally awesome goal and pretty separate from other goals. I run 4-6 times a week 3-4 miles at a time and have been for a long time. My running obviously does not maximize any kind of weight loss goals because I weigh over 200 pounds. lol. Running faster and running long is about…
  • I hit a plateau recently. Its the exact same plateau I hit last year (and then gave up). I am trying to stay positive and plug away at weightliting which at least gives me body comp change and results if the scale doesn't go down. I need to find an endocrinologist - my GP is "managing" my Hashi when I ask her to since I am…
  • Oh no, so sorry about your cat, Anna. :( I also don't *feel* my rows in the sense that I am not feeling the fatigue in specific muscles. I am, however, finding them hard and exhausting now so I guess they must be doing something. Today I went to the gym and did lots of warmups then squats 165 5x5. Some huge bodybuilder…
  • I am losing really slowly too. I run about 15 miles a week and do heavy lifting and eat for a 1.5 pound weight loss and yeah. One or two pounds a month. Blah.
  • Really?! That is super interesting. I am a midwife and have been pregnant four times and I am constantly mystified by this weird fluttering feeling above my pubic bone that feels like a 16 week pregnancy. If I had the kind of sex that makes babies I would be constantly freaked out by it. I have IBS. Never thought the two…
  • Walking is good too. I think everyone is really different when it comes to physical activity. Like, I love weightlifting, but its not the rush for me it seems to be for others. I got hit by a car on my bike when I was 19 - I still have hip pain from it almost 20 years later :(. I bike slowly for transportation. I think…
  • Hmmmm, I started running when I quit smoking and it was a really effective thing to do with my nervous, detoxing energy. I was also recovering from EDs and (pre-kids) running kept my metabolism high enough that I could eat and drink whatever and not gain weight. Since having kids and developing undiagnosed Hashimotos,…
