I lost some weight using diet chef and it really does work, my only comment would be that eating microwaved stew like products does get a bit monotonous after a while. Generally some of the products do taste quite good though. Now you have found MFP, hopefully we can all help you realise that you don't need diet chef to do…

Definitely a vote for Couch to 5K. The original program can be found at www.coolrunning.com. I am currently on Week 1 Day 2 and at 250 lbs (or thereabouts) I really didn't think I could do it, but I can and am and I am sure you can too. It is a nine week program, but you only need to move on to the next week when you are…

1st July - 249.5lbs.

Yep. I'm up for giving this a go. I weighed in today at 249.5 lbs. Are you planning on some sort of leaderboard or other incentive?

Burgers and Wedges... Minced beef (lowest fat content you can find, or turkey or pork or whatever you fancy), finely chopped onions and maybe some herbs or spices (whatever you like really). Throw it all in a bowl and mix well. Add a single egg if it is too dry then make into burger shaped things and grill until cooked.…

In one word - C25K - google it. It aims to have you running 5K non stop in 9 weeks and is aimed at non-runners. I'm planning on starting it as soon as I can pluck up the courage.

I set myself mini goals of 7lb a month. If I make it, great. If I make it sooner, even better. Think S.M.A.R.T - google it. Good luck.

I tend to weigh myself daily or every other day, but I only log it in MFP weekly. The reason for not weighing in daily is because people may think you will get disheartened by seeing a small gain, but providing you realise that your weight can fluctuate on a daily basis and you should look at the change over a much longer…

This is of course the reason why most heavy weight boxers are technically obese. But I dare any one of you to call them fat (and not get knocked out)... This is why BMI only really works for average people of average build and really should not be considered if you do a lot of strength training.

Question. What weighs more, a tonne (or ton for you US types) of feathers or a tonne (ton) of bricks?
-
Yes. Agree with it not being absolutely accurate and assuming a lot about your body composition by the composition of your lower half, but I base all my reasoning on the change since last time I weighed on the same scales positioned in the same place at the same time of day. It is unlikely that anyones scales will be…

They are a nice idea if you can afford it, but not to be taken 100% seriously. Where they are useful is to see at a glance whether your body composition is changing - important if you are doing exercise as you may see your weight staying the same or increasing when in fact you are losing fat mass and gaining muscle mass.
-
You say you didn't measure anything and then you say you went well over? How do you know if you didn't measure? I concur with everything everyone else has said, to be absolutely accurate, you need to measure everything. Personally, I don't measure things like salad - one lettuce leaf is hardly going to break the diet but…

Apologies for the double post - damn iPad!!

I can see that eating regularly keeps our metabolism going, but surely the best lesson is simply to eat less than your total daily energy expenditure? Unless you are risking starvation mode by not eating enough, and hence causing your body to store the fat that it will in starvation mode anyway, then whether you burn sugar…

Have you heard of the C25K programme? www.coolrunning.com. It is designed to ease you into running with the ultimate goal of running a 5K non stop.

One simple question. Are you happy with your weight loss so far? If so, something is working so why not stick to it?
-
I once watched a program where some students watched "Withnail and I" and drank WHAT they drank WHEN they drank it. The students all bottled it when it came to drinking lighter fuel!!! Probably best...

Disclaimer: I am no nutritionist... Looks to me like you are eating too much processed food. Much of your sodium is coming from the Kraft Cheese Slices (280mg per slice!) and the Chicken Nuggets a couple of days ago didn't help. Being a vegetarian, I suspect you eat quite a lot of cheese, try and substitute the processed…

Don't forget that your MFP goal already takes account of a calorie deficit to give you a healthy rate of loss. I too find it hard to eat my exercise calories (when I earn them which isn't often enough) but you don't want to push your body into starvation mode which you will do if you do not put enough calories in your…

1 Litre (just under a quart) of water weighs 1 Kilo (2.2lbs) so its easy to see how your weight can fluctuate during the day.

Hey Rachael Welcome to MFP. To get started, complete your diet profile if you haven't already and tell MFP how much weight you want to lose per week. It depends on your starting weight and height (together they give you a BMI or Body Mass Index) how much weight per week is considered healthy. Generally 1/2 to 1lbs per week…

Hey Paul, I too have done Slimming World (lost weight), Weight Watchers (lost weight), Diet Chef (lost weight) and the "See Food" diet (Gained it all back again!) MFP is currently working well for me, the trick is to get your head in the right place and then, quite frankly, anything will work. The WW leaders will assure…

Welcome to MFP and the rest of your life. We are a friendly bunch and give each other much encouragement when we do well and likewise support when we don't. I will send you a friend request now.

Most food scientists would disagree with many of your points. Most of us work at least five days a week, we need food in our refrigerators and cupboards which contain preservatives etc just so we are not poisoning ourselves with bacteria. Fast food is just this type of food cooked for us and served hot at the point we want…

Your BMI is just about perfect so don't try to lose weight. You are most likely gaining muscle mass which will account for the weight gain. If you want to make sure you are eating a well rounded and balance diet within a daily calorie limit, use the other tools on MFP just to keep an eye on it - especially for a couple of…

Make up a healthy vegetable ratatouille using some canned chopped tomatoes, an onion, some mushrooms, a couple of different coloured diced peppers, a courgette (zucchini) and some chopped or crushed garlic. Boil it all down until the vegetables have softened and either serve it as a side dish or over some pasta. Or, why…

You can use MFP to track sizes too.
