  • I think I am taking in fat but I will check it is where it should be. I do understand about "fruit sugars" but I have decided that I'm not going to worry about them so much if at all. I am a vegetarian and there is so much sugar in fruit and veg that I am always going to be taking in more than if I ate meat, that just how…
  • Hemp protein powder is good if added to smoothies also quinoa
  • This looks interesting but on finding a calculator and seeing what macros it advises it seems very much like a low carb, ketogentic type diet which I've tried before and I got really sick on. I am veggie and that makes all that protein and fat difficult to consume and when I did it I got sick. I do need to improve my…
  • Thank you :) You know reading these forums its clear that lots of people have some strong opinions about what the right diet is and it varies from paleo to raw vegan and I think that different people do better on some diets than others it really is all about finding something to suit you as an individual!
  • I am interested in this too, ideally I would like to maintain and build muscle if possible while losing approx 85lbs. How I have worked it out so far is like this, taken my BMR which is about 2150 (based on my pervious sedentary life) and I will eat about 1800 cals a day. Then on top of that I will work out and burn around…
  • Thanks, I don't think I want to eliminate all sugar from my diet but I did need to cut right back. Low carb, ketogentic dieting isn't right for me as I am vegetarian but I do think that added sugars are too high in the western diet for example I don't need added sugar in my humous or tomato soup but they put it right in…
  • Thanks it is helpful to know it should pass!
  • I am not so worried about the naturally occuring sugar in fruit (which I do know about) when eaten as part of a balanced diet. I am aware that a lot of dried has sugar added but you can by some without added sugar which I will do. My issue is that I tended to run of sweet carbs, white toast, cookies and scones washed down…
  • I agree sugar isn't evil, I personally love it but I was eating way too much of it and it was affecting my weight. I feel a bit annoyed that I have given the wrong impresson in my post, but these things happen, I did use the buzz phrase of the moment "sugar detox". I still have chocolate every day but I seriously needed to…
  • Thanks all for the feedback. I am still eating carbs and getting caffeine just not as much. I am still eating bread and pasta and veggies. When I say sugar detox I mean I have stopped having 10 cups of strong tea a day with milk and 2 sugars along with various sweet treats like biscuits and cake to go with them. I'm also…
  • I can relate to this as I am on medication for a neurological illness and it does cause weight gain, in fact while I was never skinny I relate my major gains to being on various medications all of which list weight gain as a major side effect. In my experiance they do make you more lethargic and increase your hunger…
  • Thanks for all the feedback. I guess it seems that a lot of the advice is similer to avoiding loose skin. I Certainly never smoked, or sunbathed. I don't even drink and I have been using sunscreen religiously for over 10 years daily and I live in a northen cloudy climate so I hope this will help. Currently my girlfriends…
  • Thank you for sharing your story with me. I know in my head that I need to lose weight for my health in the long term and that at least I should look a bit better in clothes but emotionally I dread loose skin. Almost to the point where I would rather be fat and that I can't see any point in losing if I'll just have ugly…
  • Thank you for your response and for the link which looks like great info. I do think I can lose the weight, I did lose a significant amount before but my issue is what my body will end up like even if I lose weight. I see some of the results women of my height and start weight have and they looks so good really great…
  • As of yet just being on here. I plan to take pictures and measurements tomorrow. I have also told my close family and partner that I am losing weight. A blog sounds like a good idea.
  • I looked into alli but I don't really approve of it, fat isn't the bad guy no food group is as such just if you eat a lot of junk. As others have said alli is for a low fat diet and then it takes even more of the fat out of the food you do eat. However you need good fats for the proper functioning of your body to have nice…
  • I doubt it really helps weight loss. Also a woman I know was into taking lots of ACV and she actually damaged her insides and needed hospital treatment, I think she was drinking it a neat though but still it puts me off.
  • I am 5'5 and currently at 233 my goal is 147 which is just into the healthy range for me. Once I get there I will think less about losing and more about eating well and exercising and using strength training and yoga to reshape my body (if possible) so perhaps I will lose a little more but it needs to be realistic for me.…
  • I have to agree with the OP he is pretty fit and gets annoyed when I can't keep up. He has his own ideas about fitness that work for him but they aren't right for me. Also I like to do things alone generally, I don't like team sports or shopping with people I like to do my own thing. I can see how it would be good for…
  • Wow you look great! This is really impressive and motivational for me. I am at the start of my weight loss and I am both a little heavier and taller than you were but from your start photo we look in the same range. I am also 36 and I get scared that I'm too old to lose 85lbs and still look good, in fact that has put me…
  • I think that 1500 is probably about the minimum you should eat I know the offical guide is 1200 but I just don't think you can get enough good nutrition in your body for that amount. It is better to exercise every day if you can and then eat back at least some of the calories you burn from your workouts.
  • I have previously lost around 50lbs in about 5 months maybe even a bit less time. It was really hard and I was 10 years younger back then. I went to the gym daily and I practically starved myself needless to say it did not stay off and here I am now bigger than ever. I really understand how you feel, I really always wanted…
  • I would like to know myself. I am in my mid 30's with about 85lbs to lose and I do have concerns about my bust and sagging skin in general. Things like water intake, having the best nutrition you can for your calories i.e. eating whole foods rather than ready meals etc, supplements, balancing your hormones should help I…
  • Thank you all for your replies! I do have a Polar HRM which I have just recently reset so that it should be accurate. I am able to do some cardio already such as walking on the treadmill briskly at an incline, do the eliptical machine (which is easiest for me) and the stationary bike (which I like least because its pretty…
  • I would ideally like to lose 2lbs a week (on average), my eating plan gives me 1200 calories but I intend to work out enough to burn at least 600 cals a day (also includes increasing my daily activity in general) and then eat those calories back as 1200 is too low for me, 1800 is managable food wise in fact I can't even…
  • I read that fasted cardio is great for fat loss the only thing they said was to have a cup of green tea prior to working out as it helps you burn even more fat. I have started doing that but I can't say if it works yet.
  • You look fantastic Nora, your starting photo is not too far off where I am now which I had been feeling was too far gone for much improvement but your success has really inspired me to keep going and be positive. Thank you for sharing :)
  • Thank you for all the feed back, my Heart rate is between 160 - 170 or there about, my resting heart rate is around 72 ish. I find the eliptical ok to use but I think my body weight might generate some momentum. Under the fat I have maybe still have a lot of muscle in my legs. To the person who asked if I can run 7 miles,…
  • Some things can help with stretch marks but they are a bit extreme and I would advise you to do your research before trying them out or better still find someone qualified who will help. One thing that might help is Dermarolling over the stretchmarked area you need to use the right needle size and roll once every month…
  • Before bed I have unprocessed cocoa with semi skimmed milk and 1 tsp of xylitol. It takes the edge of my hunger and the warm cocoa is very high in bioflavonoids and scientific studies show it helps with the quality of the skin if taken often over time!
