Hi girls, hope this week is starting off well for each of you. I got in my run yesterday, but only 2.1 miles and it was a struggle. Did weight lifting when we got home, then a nice dinner of salmon, shrimp and a big salad, followed by a couple glasses of wine (should have stopped at one, but the cabernet was SO tasty, I…

With a head cold, I always go ahead and work out, actually seems to make me feel better. If I have chest congestion I don't, because it's just too hard to breathe. If I had fever, body aches, I'd probably just rest and wait to feel better until working out again. ~~Veronica

Hi girls! Looks like several of you took camping trips this weekend. We went to the fair on Saturday, and I promised my family I wouldn't watch what I was eating too much, so I did splurge, but it was so fun. My total for fair eats were one roasted ear of corn, half of an Indian taco, half of a funnel cake, and a few bites…

We used to get a lot of comments about Stevie's behavior when he was younger, and his disability wasn't as obvious to the naked eye. Now that he wears a lot of protective equipment, people just avoid him. Once people get to know him, he wraps them right around his little finger and everyone falls in love with him, but he…

I doubt you've gained any muscle, or lost any inches, it's only been 3 days! But, if you weren't working out before (or working out differently before) it's almost surely muscles holding onto some water to repair themselves after the unfamiliar workout. Don't stress out about, give it some more time. If you want to weigh…

Ok, I'll be brave. This is only 60 pounds lost. I'm 39 years old and my last baby (I've had 4) was 14 years ago. I have a lot of stretch marks, so it doesn't look good, but it's a lot better than it used to be. I have lost an additional 7 pounds since this picture was taken, and still have about 10 to go. When I feel my…

Great job Laura! My weigh in this week was 151.2, that's a loss of .8 pounds, and leaves me a little ahead of schedule in my overall goal to see 14_._ during this challenge. I'm a daily weigher and I actually did see that magical 4 in the middle on Wed. this week, but it didn't stick around, maybe next week. I'm super…

Dorothy, I was really excited I was able to do that too! It's amazing how much our bodies are capable of, if we just try! And, as for body weight, those extra pounds definitely count! I picked up 65 pounds (equal to what I've lost so far) last night and I could hardly lift it! It's amazing to me that I was carting that…

Velma- She is amazing, and I have been very blessed to be her mom! Seven- That is really encouraging that he is able to at least use one sign! I think that is one of the biggest hurdles Stevie has is that he just doesn't have any really functional communication. We've worked on PECS for years, and he totally gets the idea…

Well, there are usually new groups or challenges starting up all the time, so getting in on the beginning is the best way to get into a group. I'm a member of a challenge here, and I'm sure you are more than welcome to come join us in posting. It's not the most active challenge, but the girls are really nice and we try to…

Yes, it is far, but we are so blessed to be able to visit him 2-3 times a year. It's not tons, but there could be worse situations. There are two other boys from Alaska in Stevie's house, one from a single mom household, and one from a lower income native household, so neither of them get to visit as often as we can…

Hubby and I double team it when we go out for dinner, usually one of us orders an entree we'd both enjoy, then the other orders a side salad and we both eat half the entree with half the salad. Then, we order desert and both take a couple bites and we're done.. we've splurged, without totally blowing it! ~~Veronica

I'm glad to hear you are feeling more in control this week Dorothy! I have seen your logs going up each day, so you are doing great following through on that goal. I totally agree that summers are more difficult than winter as well, which is odd, considering exercise is so much more accessible during the summer, but you…

Shop the bulk bins for your grains/beans/nuts and seeds. Generally, from the bulk bins I get steel cut oats, quinoa, brown rice, almonds, flax seed, chick peas, black beans, pinto beans, whole wheat pastry flour, wheat bran, lentils. Definitely shop the sales on produce! In addition to being cheaper, the stuff on sale is…

You look great! And my year old mini-doxie was very interested in your picture, I'm sure she thanks you for the eye candy, LOL, he's gorgeous! ~~Veronica

This has started happening to me now that I'm getting closer to goal. I drop down a few pounds, then hover and bounce around with 2 pounds or so, up and down for 3-4 weeks, then I get a 2-3 pound jump down, then it's up/down for another 3-4 weeks. Overall I'm hitting about 1/2 a pound a week, but it happens in big jumps,…

Not sure about the cruise, but you'll have plenty of walking when you get to Denali! When we cruised, we just made a pact not to ever use the elevator and ran up and down stairs all day, ate everything we wanted and didn't gain anything. I don't know if you've been watching the weather reports, but it's been a very wet…

Hey girls! As for portion control, I think I do pretty good. I have a digital scale that lets me put my plate on, zero it out and add on food, I use it a LOT. I also use my measuring spoons/cups for things like cereal/rice/pasta/grains. Hubby and I also usually share entrees when we go out to dinner, so even if we get a…

Mine is set to public as I don't mind anyone looking at what I'm eating. HOWEVER, I don't ever finalize my entries as I don't want the whole announcement on my home page. I find that some days I'm under cals, but I didn't really make very good choices and I really don't want a whole bunch of "good jobs" when I really…

Dorothy! That sounds like so much fun, glad you had such a good weekend. Your father-in-law sounds like an amazing inspiration for you. When I grow up, I wanna be just like that (LOL). We had a fun weekend too (and my food diary shows it, eeks!). Anyways, it didn't start out very well, as dh got stuck at work and didn't…

Hey girls, sorry I didn't respond back, but my weekends tend to be crazy (during summer at least, winters are so much nicer as we just hibernate, LOL). Thank you all for your kind words. I'm just starting to get to the place where it feels like placing Stevie was the "right" decision. When we got to go visit him in June,…

I still drink diet cokes and it doesn't seem to have an effect on my weight loss. I have heard some people say that they feel more cravings after having a diet drink, so if that applies to you, it might have an effect if you give in and have something off your usual plan. I'd say do some experiments and find out if it's an…

Once you post in a topic, you can look up above the forum where it says "My Topics" and it should show up in that list for you. I don't think there's a way to set up a group, outside of friending everyone. Hope that helps, ~~Veronica

It is very overwhelming having one that is completely dependent on you every second. My youngest (14) has severe autism and was completely dependent on us for years and years. This past Feb. we made a very hard decision and moved him into residential care (for his safety as he is very self-abusive and waking up to him…

Hmm, 3 pounds in 2 weeks is a good loss! I've averaged about .75 pounds a week in my weight loss, so you're ahead of me. Are your muscles at all sore from the new workouts? If they are, you are most certainly holding water as your muscles repair themselves. Be patient, you will lose weight if you stick to it and put in the…

Week 3 summary: This was a good week for me. Weigh -in at 152, which is a loss of 2.2 from last week. Probably about 1 pound of that was TOM bloat, so an overall loss of 1 pound, which I'm thrilled with! I also got in 5 good days of exercise this week, which is great. I've also made a little movement on my push to add 5…

I really enjoyed the 5 elements article this week as well. I know, for me personally, I have a good handle on aerobic, core and muscle building exercise, but I really have neglected balance work, and to a lesser degree stretching. I'd really like to incorporate some yoga as I think that would be the piece to really…

Dorothy, that sounds so uncomfortable, I hope the medication clears it up soon! (and not offended at all, it was good info) Fri: 2.1 miles Sat: Sun: Mon: 2.8 miles, 100 JJ, 23 pushups Tues: Wed: 25 pushups, 100 JJ, 2.8 miles Thur: 25 pushups Weekly Total so far: 73 pushups, 200 JJ, 7.7 miles ~~Veronica

I have lost my weight following (mostly) South Beach principles. I'm actually a moderator on the site you posted, LOL. It really does work well, but I do like keeping track of my calories here as well. ~~Veronica

Hey ya'll.. hope everyone is having a good hump day! Sorry was MIA yesterday, but hubby decided he was "sick" and stayed home from work. So, we slept in late, went to get oil changed in the car, then did our exercise early and laid around watching movies and tv for the rest of the day... LAZY, but boy it felt good for a…
