I track my swims on the Masters Swimming Canada site. 37km approximately since I started tracking in June. I think Runtastic and a few other apps available on Android can track as well. Do a manual entry and change the activity.

After action report of my 2.1km swim. I put a list of tips at the end of the post. My goal time was 45 minutes, I would have been happy with anytime before 60 minutes. Instead my official time was 2:18:43, The means I was swimming for over 2 hours. The one thing that took me by surprise was the mental hurdle I had to get…

Hey Laurochka, I have also been away. My open water swim is in less then a week, I will have more tips after I find out what doesn't work for me. My advice so far is to hire a wetsuit. It is not something you want to be cheap on. Also try different styles and brands. I went and tried on several before I found the…

I always thought it had something to do with elevation changes as well. I usually get this during hikes, or trail running where I have constant elevation changes. I clicked on this thread hoping to get some more information but it sounds like most people are just guessing as well.

umm, normal weight gain, could be sodium, hormones, your body weight can fluctuate by as much as 10lbs. You need to look for downward trends, not just the fluctuations.

Its the tannins in red wine that cause migraines. sigh, I miss being able to drink some of my favourite wines, but when I have one before I finish the glass I know its time to stop. Luckily they now make red wine without those tannins, search for unoaked wines. I haven't found any other food triggers for myself.

Look for a running or sports store near you, they usually have all the accessories. They have handheld mini ones, different styles that attach to your waist, hydration packs, etc. I personally cannot stand to carry anything in my hands while running. So I would just leave the water in the car until I came back to it. But I…

My Masters Swim team has been very welcoming and friendly. One of the main members thanked the newcomers for participating after every session. This team does not compete though some members do triathlons and open water swims, they do not do traditional swim meets. There are lanes of each ability and the best part is…

I recently went to a clinic run by an ultra trail runner. She doesn't use gels, hates them actually. What she uses are candy, prunes, etc. At that point you are looking for carbs to fuel your body since you have most likely depleted your stores when doing an endurance activity. Carbs need not be found in a gel. She will…

I went to a physiotherapist for this. I second the recommendations so far. I want to add, focus on using your hamstrings, otherwise other muscles may do the work that you want your hamstrings to do.

Oh a Garmin Swim, I was looking at those. I ended up getting a Timex tap watch. I use the chrono feature and I tap it every lap I do. If I upgrade I will probably go for a Garmin swim or the Garmin Forerunner 910xt My friend would use the alphabet to count.

Sprint triathlon is 750 meter swim, 20km bike ride and a 5k run. To compete you must be able to do all those. The best way to do that is to start putting the distance in. It also helps to combine the activities ie, bike or run to the pool. You can google for training programs, as well as search for triathlon training…

or 8oz equals 237ml. For cooking and baking I always went by 1 cup = 250 ml.

They did try to get information by emailing and phone, and didn't get any responses. Also posts were deleted on facebook without any feedback from staff. This is from a follow up post by the OP

I rinse and air dry. Occasionally I will wash them. I recently bought a polyester bathing suit that is supposed to hold up for hours of swimming weekly, It seems to be holding up pretty well. But I have just been using it for just over month. My normal speedo one that I bought in the fall is already starting to show its…

A friend of my mother's who also has RA does Tai Chi, it is a good activity to try. I also did a couple sessions over the winter and really enjoyed myself.

Trail Running!! A day after ran so it involved puddle jumping, and we got lost so the run ended up being double the time planned on.

Holly, currently in central BC, Canada in the mountains, so a lot of snow and glacier melt right now. There are other places to swim that are warmer right now, I just wasn't in any of those locations at the time. I am hoping to try a local smaller lake this weekend. There can be some beautiful warm swimming locations you…

Good work Holly, I usually exhale through my mouth. Not sure if that's correct or not. I have no idea about the headache, best guess is to keep drinking that water. I hate getting lapped, I used to be one of the fastest and I am not anymore. Swimming (pool) on Thursday I am pretty sure I got lapped 5 times in one set.…

Is your seat at the right height? I just discovered this yesterday, I raised my seat and riding became worlds easier. Your seat should be high enough that your legs are almost fully extended while pedaling. Your feet should not be able to touch the ground while on the seat.

Not sure where you are, but in my area bear spray is a must.

I do not have any research links myself, but its the same theory for being out in cold weather. Your body wants to be warm, so burns more fuel to keep body temperature up and it works harder when its cooler out. One reason why winter survival kits usually have chocolate and high calorie food and drink. It doesn't look like…

Also look at local physiotherapy clinics, mine just had a workout circuit for people with joint problems or recovering from injuries. (They also had a normal circuit workout too). The advantage of this is the exercises are from people who are trained in body movement. My mom does all right, but I do need to get her on MFP.…

OP states that she gets feedback from MFP that they are eating "significantly low amount of calories". I would bold it but I cannot figure out how to do that. Also the amount of food the OP listed doesn't sound like a lot. This does depend on the quantity though. This is what I calculated using values that seemed…

If you just have sore muscles and if it lessens after some light exercise and walking I would keep going. If it is a more sharp intense pain (like a pulled muscle) I would not. I always find it best to stretch thoroughly after a run. It helps with my muscle soreness and tightness.
-
The issue of the scale aside Did no one notice when the OP stated they are eating dangerously low. You should be entering a goal of 1 to 1.5 pounds per week. And eat back 50-75% of your exercise calories. Your calorie goal is just that a goal. You want to meet it, not be above it, and not be below it.

My mom has RA so I understand how difficult it can be to move while hurting so bad. You should closely watch your calorie intake and log accurately for weight loss. What you might have to do is to start small and work out in little bits, and keep going. Walk for 10 minutes at a time throughout the day as opposed to an hour…

One thing about swimming is that your body uses more calories just to stay warm in the water. And since it seems like you were at an outdoor pool the water temperature is cooler then an indoor pool, plus the air temperature can be cooler (temp, wind, shade). Your body probably burned more calories then you have accounted…

I grind my teeth as well, and I didn't know about it until I started going to a new dentist and he recommended I get a mouth guard. Some of the tops of my teeth have worn flat. The tension in my jaw and neck from doing this does cause migraines for me on occasion if I forget to put my mouth guard in. If you cannot get a…

Going gluten free for migraines and other issues will only help if you have a gluten intolerance. To find out if you have a gluten intolerance go see a doctor. In order for testing to give a correct diagnoses you want to keep eating gluten.
