There is a swimmers group on here. It is comprised of swimmers who are part of Master Swim clubs to people who just go to the pool and swim some laps. I am a member of Masters Swim (Canada), belong to a club and I am training for Open Water swims (2.1km and 2.1km) this summer.

You can do any cardio that doesn't involve impact. When I had shin splints I would climb the stairs at the local track. You can also bike ride. Walking is even possible

I also highly recommend stretching afterwards. I sometimes push myself too hard and I am sore for days afterwards, but stretching definitely helps with that. Also incorporate strengthening and exercises for all your leg muscles. I have an especially tight (weak) right hip flexor and that is affecting my running and pain…

Your daily calorie goal is a goal you should be reaching, It is something you aim for. It is not good to be under and it is not good to be over. Remember it has a deficit already you do not need to add more. But a 100 cal difference for one day isn't that bad overall. You are still in deficit.

RPM is essentially speed, The calorie estimator on the bike is most likely incorrect. Only eat back 50-75% of calories burned. To be more successful, you should invest in a kitchen scale and weigh all your solids, measuring cups for liquids only. Make use of the recipe builder for homemade recipes. What I do is write on…

I don't mountain bike often, but I do hike in the mountains more. I would also recommend to also carry bear spray (depends on your area). I also bring a jacket, first aid kit, and fill my water bladder (2L) in my pack. Also most paramedics are familiar with the Road ID bracelet.

I wouldn't worry about the sugar if you are not over a lot. I read in other forums that the MFP limit on sugars is low. I usually go over on sugars and that's mostly from fruit. I would start working on strength training and your body composition changing now since you are so close to where you want the scale to be. Check…

Holly, What is the distance that you will be swimming? No one looks good in a wetsuit. I like that comparison to an inner tube though, the material is really similar. I am actually not much of a competitor, I just love to swim. I could actually do all the practices and training and not compete. LOL.

I have my diary set up as default. However I am a haphazard logger, getting better though and even if I don't log the calories I starting log what I ate in the notes section. That being said, sometimes my entire day gets logged into breakfast or lunch, sometimes most of the food ends up in snacks. I have a pretty set…

The pool I swim at is cool. Which is great. The worst part is getting in. Brrr. On a side note I am hoping to pick up my wetsuit this weekend and I'll be able to start some open water swim practices. I am a month away from my 2.1k race. I was hoping to attend some clinics held by the organizers but they are 3 hours away…

There a difference between being out in the world getting in your exercise and just passing by people to working out in a gym. I'm a friendly person and in a gym, I am friendly. I like interacting with people. You just have to make sure you aren't intrusive or they aren't interested in being friendly. There needs to be an…

Before you start adjusting calories, what is the time frame that you are talking about? Are you sure that you are eating 1700 calories, by this I mean, weighing all of your food with a scale, measuring cups are for liquids only, using the correct nutritional information, etc. Is your HRM calibrated correctly, 1000 cal…

This is where the computer is far better to use than the phone app. I buy a lot of dry ingredients in bulk at a local bulk goods store with no nutrition information, I find the generic versions in MFP. Also if you use the plural of the word it brings up the non-asterisk foods. Tomatoes - raw, bananas, apples instead of…

Holly, Could also be sleep, hydration, hormones, fighting off a sickness, etc, sometimes your body just wont do something as well as you want it to. Some days I totally kick butt at swimming other days, I struggle to get through the set. On Thursday I had to stop 400 m short because I was getting a cramp. Its upsetting…

Wrong, Wrong and Wrong - excess stomach fat isn't because of carbs and not enough protein, it means they still need to eat at a deficit to continue to lose body weight. That is the only way. Stomach fat is usually the last place to lose fat and show the underlying muscle. Also you strength train while in calorie deficit to…

It does sound like you do have some issues with body image (based on your profile) but it does sound like you are managing it and not going overboard. To me, it looks like you have no weight to lose. It might help still to go speak to a counselor or therapist about body image and diet. (may not be necessary but couldn't…

Shaking my head usually gets water out of my ears, or I just wait and eventually the water drains.

Same here. I eat just as frequently and the same types of foods, just less of them. I am more focused on healthy nutritious foods now as well. Another reason why I gained, was I just simply wasn't as active as I used to be. I am changing that up by biking to work and other places, gotten committed to swimming, and just…

I did one this past Saturday. The colour is Corn Starch. It was lots of fun, I ended up with colour all over my face and body. I will be adding a photo to my profile. I was worried about getting it in my eyes, but it wasn't an issue. Most of the colour came off that day in the shower. And bring towels for your car. We wish…

Not sure if you have this option, but all the pools I have been to, have had kickboards that you can use. You may have to ask a lifeguard if they don't have them in a bin, or by the pool.

If you had actually listened to her, she did not put the full blame on him, she said she left him, then found her newest love. She did not leave her husband for the lady. How do you know she did not put the effort in. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is to leave.

Sounds like you have done fantastic. It is good that you have taken the vacation, you should feel no guilt since you are planning on returning to your normal diet. Also the thing about vacations is that you also tend to be more active ie just walking everywhere. You are practicing sustainability. Just do yourself a favour…
-
My recommendation is to go on vacation and do not track calories. Still track your food because studies have shown even doing that helps. Take a little notebook with you and write down what you eat and estimated portion sizes. You are on vacation, you don't want to be glued to your phone or computer.

It sounds like you got it right. Also do not get confused, you can gain strength without gaining muscle. So while eating at a deficit and weight lifting 'heavy' you will lose fat, retain muscle and if you are weightlifting progressively, you will gain strength.

If you are going to be in the mountains in Canada, I would suggest you do a lot of walking, hiking and stairs. Lots and lots of stairs. I say this as someone who does live in the mountain in Canada. Even if you are not going to a mountainous area I would still suggest trying to get in as much outside walking/trail…

OP, I am currently training for my first open water swim races this summer. I did grow up swimming in a lake though. I am currently looking for a wetsuit for myself since one race is over 3km. Practice Practice and Practice. And practice in open water. Be prepared during race time to get splashed and bumped. Wet suits help…

If you get the correct entries, they usually have a whole list of options, For example carrots -raw gives you 12 size options. Dry ingredients like rice and quinoa give you 2 options (1 cup and 100g)

8 fl oz is a cup. A cup meaning a unit of measurement. In Canada 1 cup is = 250ml, slightly less in the US. It is a measuring cup, not a drinking cup. Though some tea/coffee mugs are 1 cup. To the OP, you have two choices. Start cooking and weighing your foods while paying attention to nutrition labels. Or start helping…

I keep a stock in my freezer. There is a lot less prep work with frozen veggies. But some do freeze better then others. I usually just steam it, sometimes make fajitas, or throw it into soup, stir fry, pasta sauce, etc. I don't have a microwave so its stove top or oven cooking for me.
