  • I never thought I could either, but thin crust pizza > no pizza.
  • I've had the Newman's Own thin crust with uncured pepperoni and it's actually very good for low-cal, frozen pizza. I'm a deep dish, meatlover's, dip your crust in ranch kinda gal (reformed, of course), so that's really saying something coming from me lol.
  • I appreciate that and admit I am possibly being sensitive. It seems 50% is a good starting place, from which I'll adjust if necessary. Mostly, this boils down to my anxiety over fixing what isn't broken, so to speak. But, I'll have to bite the bullet, give it a try, and course-correct if necessary. Worst case, I see a…
  • Thank you @TeaBea :) I guess I was looking for a place to start and because I've been able to track/predict my losses so well up to this point, I'm feeling anxious about making changes. I do use an activity tracker, but I see a lot of people on MFP saying they're inaccurate, so I'm hesitant to eat 100%.
  • Thank you, @Silentpadna That was one of my concerns as well, that continuing on with my current intake with no regard for added calorie burn would affect my ability to progress in my workouts. I'm seeing a lot of people (though not on this thread) saying they eat approximately 50-75%, so it seems a reasonable starting…
  • I'm not sure why you're being so sarcastic. I don't believe I've asked anything ridiculous here. Up until last week, I was sedentary and without the added exercise, I would still be considered sedentary. As I mentioned, this is a new exercise program. To me, it makes more sense to eat back a portion of my exercise calories…
  • I've calculated my TDEE (as sedentary, since I work a desk job 50+ hours a week) and through months of tracking data, know that it is accurate as I'm losing at the expected rate. My logging is accurate. I weigh and track everything and use or create accurate database entries. I'm not struggling with weight loss, so I'm not…
  • I've definitely withheld information from my doctor before, but never anything of particular import. If I don't feel something relates to the reason I'm there and is uncomfortable (for whatever reason) to discuss, I'm not going to bring it up for the hell of it.
  • I don't think anyone here is "anti-exercise", we're simply saying that it's not necessary for weight loss. I'm one of the posters who said it wasn't required and I do crossfit 5 days a week and get a minimum of 10,000 steps, which hardly qualifies as anti-exercise to me.
  • By saying exactly what I said in a different format? You eat less calories or more calories based on what you do or don't eat. You may have noticed I advocate CICO in every thread where it comes up, so no need to play semantics. It was clear what I meant.
  • How did you decide on 1200? Have you calculated your TDEE and subtracted from that to achieve the rate of loss you're aiming for? Also, how are you measuring your food? A scale, measuring cups? I'm sorry for all the questions, but they're necessary to find a solution. More often than not, inaccurate logging is the culprit.
  • Also, have you calculated your BMR or TDEE? Doing so will help you set an appropriate goal on MFP. Between .5 and 2 lbs a week is considered a safe rate of loss and with only 20 pounds to lose, you'll likely want to aim for the lower end of that. I started hoping to lose 25-30 lbs and am currently down 18 of that. It…
  • Hi there. The most important aspect of weight loss is what you do or don't eat! If you have a sedentary job and can't find time to exercise outside of that, then focus on your calorie intake and accurately measuring and logging your food. Exercise helps, but you can absolutely lose weight without it. With that said, a…
  • Did I write this? lol I have the same problem, I drown everything in some kind of condiment and it's been one of the hardest habits to break. I've also started using mustard a lot more, but of course, that doesn't work for everything. It's not the best option, but sometimes I'll use a no/low fat dressing instead. With…
  • Interesting that you would peg her as the one with a lot to learn. @crazyycatlady1 hit her goal and has been in maintenance for years. She knows her *kitten*.
  • Hey lady, see this part where you say you can tell him for a fact that it's not true that eating within his range is enough? This is the problem. I don't see anything in that statement that suggests you understand that deficit is all that matters for weight loss.
  • Read the Twinkie diet post and tell me again how type of food supercedes the importance of a calorie deficit.
  • Alanis should have added that line to her song. "It's like 10,000 posts when all you need is a pic..."
  • I've actually found that to be true! Some of the funniest and/or most knowledgeable people I've interacted with on these forums have profile pictures of something other than their face.
  • Thank you @sijomial. That's not a bad price at all, especially considering what I paid for my terribly inaccurate one! And sorry to threadjack you, @Ironandwine69 :)
  • I have one of those scales at home, but I'm not sure I trust the numbers at all. It gives me a BF% of anywhere from 32% to 36%, which based on the mirror and pictures, I find kind of hard to believe. How much (approximately) was the Omron, if you don't mind my asking?
  • It looks like your diary is set to private. Adjust the settings so people can help you
  • It's pretty interesting! To me, anyway lol. I spent soo many years yo-yoing in the same 20 pound range because I was convinced I had to give up everything I enjoyed before I realized it was all about calories in vs calories out. I hope I didn't come across as condescending, just been there and thought I'd share :) I think…
  • I'm so sorry that happened to you. People are truly awful sometimes, but that is a reflection of them, not you. I'm 5'8 and weighed 158 at my highest and had a car full of teenage girls throw a McFlurry at me and shout "fat *kitten*!!!" while I was riding my bike a while back. My purpose in sharing that is to say that some…
  • It seems like you're kind of hung up on this idea of "healthy" foods, rather than caloric deficit which is what matters. If you don't like avocados, stop eating them! There is a ton of other ways to add healthy fats to your diet. Nutrition is important, but in terms of weight loss, type of food is not really relevant.…
  • The only misleading/false statements here are yours. This is a post about the mathematics of weight loss, not a thread on Gale Hawkins' feels on weight loss, so take your armchair psychology elsewhere. You got fat because you ate too much like all the rest of us. While you continue shirking your responsibility for that,…
  • You make a really good point, @AnnPT77 . I agree -I don't doubt that Gale possesses some knowledge that could be useful to newcomers in an anecdotal sense, but this insistence on disproving a scientific equation in order to support his own claims is ridiculous and frankly, downright arrogant.
  • Amen. I spent much of my teens and early twenties about 20 pounds overweight, all the while blaming my slow metabolism. Finding out that I was not special, and that it was not complicated was a huge relief, because it meant I could do something about it! Trying to factor in all of these insignificant details seriously…
  • I take it back. I take it all back. I've been lying...I lost weight using the magic macro. ;) @GaleHawkins You are what is harmful to new MFP members. New and veteran MFP members alike are best served by taking personal responsibility for their behaviors and their weight and using the CICO equation to figure out a more…
