Just try and keep your sodium below 2000mg a day, the less processed foods you eat the easier that is to do. I keep mine around 1000-1200 mg a day.

Eh, not really, it's one of those running rules that gets passed down from person to person but has no basis for grounding. Research it and you'll find no real support of the actual 10% rule. It's more a listen to your body and increase your mileage gradually rule...not 10%. Interesting I think:…

I would run the full 12, just consider the 5K your warm-up for the day! But if you're concerned, move your LR to Sunday or Monday (assuming you have a 3 day weekend!)

mkingraham(Megan)- Stick with my 15k Training Plan, Reach ONEderland, don't over splurge during my bday celebrations, love myself better in the second half of my 20s :) meagalayne- Ice and stretch as needed and try to incorporate core and upper body work into your weekly routine; drink more H20 than you did in August; run…

I kicked *kitten* in August...and really, really worked hard in Physical Therapy, with my marathon training and not doing too much too soon. Today, I graduated from physical therapy :drinker: This stint in PT was much faster than last time...only about 5 weeks vs. 5 months last time because I was pro-active and hauled my…

Yesterday at work someone asked me why I ran so many races...AHHHHH. And I said, with all seriousness "What else am I going to spend my money on?" Yes, I'm slated to run about 30 races this year, some I've won entries into...but running is what I do, it makes me happy...just like spending money on my soccer league! I don't…

I get that all the time. My first response is "Why not?" and my second response is "Because I can". Running my first full in November, ran my first half in June and will run another half in October. (And another half in December, and another full in January). I run because it makes me feel alive. I started running again…

Read my above post. You can always PM me...I went through some lengthy rehab, and am now fighting through some stuff. But to me it's worth it...some days I can't run, so I listen to my body. Other days I feel like a million dollars. Not running is not an option for me. Simply put.

I didn't break my ankle, but suffered a 4th degree sprain to it 3 years ago. I had injured the same ankle 2 times prior (not as severe however) but it's just terribly weak and without any stability. I passed on surgery and went hard in PT for 5 months...yes 5 months for a sprain, they told me to break it next time as it…

Sesame and peanut oil are good fats, just like olive oil. I use all three when I cook...just measure!

I got vain and used it when I didn't need to, once I stopped it made my face breakout like I had never seen before (this was at the age of 22/23). It also bleached the hell out of my sheets and towels, so the question is, do you really want to put something on your skin (that gets into your bloodstream) that bleaches the…

And that's your opinion chunka. That was pretty much as tactful as I could have put that, but she did post repeatedly about not liking MFP because of people and their opinions. But yet, while stating her own opinion, was quite rude and expects us to respect her opinion? It goes both ways, ya know! If you want weight-loss…

If you can't handle people having different opinions, then maybe MFP isn't the right place for you....I mean you are so disgusted by those of us having opinions that differ from your own:flowerforyou:

I have exercise-induced asthma and am training for a marathon in November. It was something I developed about 3 years ago and realized it (as a very fit individual) walking up outdoor flights of stairs during a cold winter day when I couldn't breathe. I've trained myself to not need my inhaler, and don't bring it on most…

Honestly. Easy way out. I think a lot of people do it initially without thinking it through. I've never really been overweight (and can't really put myself in an obese person's shoes) but I don't like shortcuts and I'd rather bust my butt and lose 30 pounds than lose 60 or 120 via surgery. Hard work pays off and it makes…

Hi all, I know I said I'd be back...but I'm taking a bit of an MFP break. I'm here, but not here. Just lots going on. Unfortunately I've run myself into the ground and been told by a GP that I'm overtraining. It's either step back from marathon training or find a way to sleep. Overtraining is a steep, tricky slope so I'm…

Logging 40-90 miles a week on a bike isn't going to require a week off to recover, unless there's an underlying issue. He needs to watch his water and food intakes (that goes without saying) but also he should be stretching and using a foam roller. $20 says he doesn't stretch well and his muscles are probably super tight…

I have a lot of running books, but I don't ever read them. I just go by instinct and listen when other runners with experience speak. Of course, it's not that easy... a lot of it is trial and error, especially when it comes to fueling, sneakers and pace. Runner's World has some good basic articles that are easy to follow…

In terms of macros or in terms of a certain diet or what? Not sure exactly what you're looking for. I'm training for my first marathon and I'm at 50-25-25. For me personally, living in the South and training in the intense heat, water is vital as are electrolytes for my long runs. I worry most about fuel for my long runs…

Honestly, 5x a week is too much for a beginner runner. 3x a week is what's recommended. Start from there and build up your endurance.

http://www.target.com/p/9-Can-Tote-Disco-Dots/-/A-13271670 I've had that tote (or maybe the bigger one, I can't be sure) for 2+ years and it's the best! Reasonable and you can wipe the inside down real quick!

An ice pack in a decent insulated lunch bag will do wonders. I was stuck in my car yesterday for 2 hours on my way to work and my greek yogurt, string cheese, hummus and all of my fruits/veggies were completely fine. Healthy fats (nuts and nut butters) are great as a late afternoon snack paired with some peanut butter.…

You actually want to have a shorter stride and a quicker turnover rate to run faster. 180 strides/minute is the ideal, but anywhere between 160 and 180 will suffice. Easier said than done, a lot of people think a longer stride is necessary...but it will lead to injury more often than not. If you run with music, you can…

Like Ray said, we all started where you started. Just do your best, whether that means running far, running fast or running for fun. Just figure out what you want to get out of it, and just do it! I think the most critical part of running (which is overlooked quite a bit) is being mentally strong...physically, I can run…

Hi all! I've been around, sometimes just get too overwhelmed to reply. I'm going to be selfish here, but will try not to be from here on out! Been super good with getting in strength this month - most of it has been core work. My Physical Therapist told me I need to work on my core because it's causing other issues, blah,…

I run everything and anything; basically as many races as I can get to/afford:smile: Currently training for my first full in November (and will run another half in October) and expect to run 30 races in 2011.

Jets in the SuperBowl? Pffffft, that's laughable  PATRIOTS all the way:drinker:

Running? Also a big fan of Turbo Fire...but it's on hold now while I train for my marathon. Running + TF = way too much intense cardio

Love mine, but I only use it for outdoor running. I have a higher-end model Polar that I use for everything else. One thing to note is that is uses the GPS and your heart rate to calculate calories burned. So for any activity that uses the GPS, the calorie burn will be accurate. Otherwise, it's not accurate in the…

In general, don't make excuses. Make the time, and get it done. My HRM and my Garmin are the best. As are both pairs of my running sneakers, my Feetures socks and all of my gear. I also have resistance bands, kettlebells, 3-8 pound dumbbells, and adjustable weights. I don't belong to a gym, and I don't need one. Some…
