  • Because I like to make up excuses? :noway: Oh wait, I'm a marathon runner. I don't make excuses. All my cardio is done outside:heart:
  • I don't like Option 1 at all. I like Option 2, butttt when is the wedding? I didn't see it. It it during a warm month?
  • Yes, but a lot of it has to do with fitness and base mileage. Easy runs are about 2 minutes slower than you would run that distance in a race, breathing shouldn't be a challenge and your HR should be within a certain range. Easy runs also allow for recovery. You will get there in time, try to knock back the pace a bit on…
  • Wendy, I had a horrid time with changing mine (405CX) and ended up bending the pin and rendering it useless. It had tape on it for just over a year. I would bring it to a jeweler, that's what Garmin suggests to do if you're having trouble!
  • There's always the open bar cocktail hour and then paying once they get into the main room for dinner.
  • I had a great Tanita, and broke it when I moved. I then got Conair and Weight Watchers scales (same manufacturer) and they were absolute cr*p. Neither could measure a 10 lb dumbbell consistently nevermind my own weight. I now have an Ozeri scale:…
  • Yibing Chen I always tell people I have the body of a gymnast. Didn't think I was a MALE Chinest gymnast though:noway:
  • willpower
  • I just looked at your exercise diary - are you really walking 420-520 minutes a day (that's over 9 hours)?! Or do you just work on your feet? Seems a bit excessive. And yes eat more. If you can't eat more. Stop exercising until you can eat better.
  • Two things to remember: he planned on retiring after Beijing and lost a lot of motivation. Beating Lochte is why he came back. And he just started training 9 months ago. SO he is vastly unprepared compared to some of the others. He might be Michael Phelps but he is not the God-like figure people make him out to be. He is…
  • If your dog is going to run at people AND people are going to be scared, then why the h*ll isn't your dog on a leash?! It's your responsibility as a dog owner to be courteous and respectful SMH
  • If I'm healthy, the only hard part is getting out the door. It's really only a problem when I'm de-motivated by the weather. Give me a blizzard any day over warm temps with high humidity. It's been really poor air quality the last few weeks here, so it's bringing some of my asthma problems to the forefront as well.
  • How bad is your scoliosis? If it's not enough of a curve, you don't need a back brace. If you're not wearing a back brace in day-to-day life, your problem is your form and/or your running shoes. I have scoliosis, it's not 25% curvature (which is when they usually recommend a back brace) so it doesn't affect my running. I…
  • Just get over it. It's just something that you will get used to. Any new experience can worry people. It's not something I've ever worried about myself. But I suppose run super early? I run at 5:30 AM, I never see any cars.
  • Genetics do play a part, but yes. Endurance takes time and patience. I am/was a fast sprinter. I am now a marathoner and a fairly serious endurance runner. Train smart, build slow and it will come.
  • The treadmill is physically easier, mentally tougher (for most). The TM sets the pace for you, outside you have to set your own pace and keep moving. Also, outside you have heat and humidity to contend with - with a TM it's in a nice, dry air-conditioned location more often than not. The roads build more character!
  • I'm no longer in my early 20s, but I always had roommates in my younger 20s so that I was never spending more than 30% of my income on rent. But even when I was 21 and started my first job out of college, my salary came out to nearly double what you're making now. I also bought my car outright when I was 18 so I didn't…
  • Depending on your training, you might need a day off running. The bad runs are really good runs. They are reminders to appreciate the good runs and that we need to take care of our bodies. As long as you're running, it's a good run.
  • People smoking at races. I just about had an asthma attack when someone lit up RIGHT on the damn course during a marathon. Could you be any ruder?
  • Poor customer service sucks. I worked at CVS for 5 years as a high school and college student and even at 16 I was a courteous and diligent employee. I can't stand customer service, so I have an office job now, but am surprised by how lazy and rude customer service people have gotten. If you're a cashier, you shouldn't be…
  • Seriously?! I hope you said something to his or her manager. That person doesn't deserve to have a job when so many people are struggling to find a job and make ends meet. I also would not have even tipped 1 cent to that dbag. Not even a damn penny.
  • You do realize that YOU could be an exception to the rule, right? And that a person's physique is more complicated than simply whether you sprint, run for distance or walk, right? I've never heard of such a thing - which doesn't necessarily mean it's untrue but giving someone advice in the "this is the absolute truth" way…
  • It's more about body composition that the actual number on the scale, honestly. And as others have said, it's purely individual. I have a weight goal, but my biggest goal is more defined leg muscles and a stronger core so I can be a faster, stronger runner!
  • Electrolyte imbalance. The big 3 - sodium, potassium and magnesium. I imagine you get enough sodium in your diet, so potassium and magnesium are likely the culprit. I was having the same problem and getting enough potassium. I started taking magnesium every day and I maybe get one every 4 months - before it was nearly…
  • Oh and I hadn't actually gained weight and my face isn't any fuller?! I think she's just forgetful.
  • My 98 year old Grandma told me this past weekend (I hadn't seen her in a few months) that my face looked full and I had gained weight. And then ventured a guess "8-10 pounds, right?" But then she told me I had lovely, healthy hair
  • Anti-gun (And I'm American BTW). I can't even fathom just going to a gun range for fun.
  • ^ This. I used to hate my legs and now that I'm a runner, I realize how much power I have in my legs. You won't get skinny legs, but you can get defined legs...and that's SO much better.
  • I love that there are so many New England marathons in this thread. I'm a Masshole living in Connecticut
  • October 14th - Amica Marathon in Newport, RI. It will be my second!
