Who diagnosed you? And what did they have to say about it? I have tendonitis and am training for a marathon and have barely managed to get approval to keep training. It really depends on how bad it is, how strong your body is/can handle the impact of running and that's all to be determined by a qualified medical…

Timex doesn't have the technology that Polar has honestly. But the most accurate Polars are the FT series and up. I have the Polar FT60 and although my burns are way less than people without HRMs/with cheaper HRMs I trust the numbers I get. I also have a Garmin 405CX and trust what it gives me too. I see people with some…

Honestly? The top half definitely ages you, but as far as the bottom half (and the actual dress), I think you look good. The shrug (I don't think that's a shrug BTW) makes you look like you're in the 50s and doesn't compliment the style of the dress at all. I also think it makes you look bigger than you actually are. So no…

Go get re-fitted and evaluate your options because I assure you can get cheaper shoes! I've never paid more than $100 for a pair of shoes. I think Nikes are crap in terms of running shoes, and in my experience, don't last well. I would tell you to look at Asics, Brooks and Mizunos once they re-assess your gait. I get a new…

A ran a 5.43 mile in high school. Now I could probably run a 6.30 mile, maybe a bit faster. I don't even run less than 4 miles at once anymore though.

Depends I can usually get 400 out of them. But honestly it's not a mileage thing, it's how they feel. I run in 2 pair, alternate every other run, and by doing that it's easier to feel when one pair needs to be replaced. My current ones that I'm getting replaced this weekend only have 250 miles on them, but I can feel each…

Yes, people lose toenails running. It depends on your mileage though really and how much room you have in your toebox. I've been lucky...but still have 8 weeks 'til my marathon:smile:

Yep. Been there, done that. I basically tell them to only take the calluses down about 1/2 way and not to touch the blisters. I got one day last week and fell asleep during it. I had told the woman exactly what I just said, woke up and I had no dead skin at all. I had worked hard for my ugly feet and yeah 10 days later,…

Slowly but surely kicking through this overtraining wall. Really have dropped my pace down and made every run an easy run. But this week, I've hauled on my 2 runs, despite the heavy legs. I have some of my confidence back and ran a 5 mile tempo Tuesday night at an overall 9.15 pace (including a super slow 10.35 warm-up)…

Use the lower of the 2 numbers. MFP and machine estimates are both quite high for me. But my body is pretty efficient, so I burn a lot less than most - MFP and machines are basically an average for someone your height/weight, so keep that in mind. That's why I have a HRM...actually two:smile:

Oh no, I don't mean that you're making a huge ordeal out of it...I just meant you don't have to go all out and do something extravagant to ask her out. I think it's sweet, I think that if you don't see her by this weekend, send her the letter...or you could even ask her if you could swing by her house some night this week?…
-
It doesn't have to be a huge ordeal, just a gesture :) And I'm glad you're seeing that texting isn't the way to go!
-
Does she have a track meet this week? You could go to her meet (surprise her even?), cheer her on and then ask her out then?
-
Find 5 minutes after school/before she has track and arrange to meet then. Then ask her out. Don't ask her out via a text or an email. In person, and if that can't work, then do it over the phone. Personal touch is best!

If you're supposed to have a pull-back week, then go with the slower pace group that you're considering. Or even go with a 4:05 group if you find you need the recovery. The goal is time on your feet for your long runs, especially if it's your first marathon. I'm trianing for my first, and although tough to remember, the…

Regarding the 405 vs. 405CX (and the main reason why I purchased the CX): Source: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=3332 You can also compare a few of the Garmins side by side on Garmin's website. I have had not one problem with the Garmin 405CX and I've logged over 700 miles running since I got it earlier this…

I got to 13+ before I even started training for my half, which was good because I never got to that distance (injury + illness) while half training, although I had planned on getting to 15. Get as close as you can, the difference between 11 and 13 is less than a half hour extra of running :) As for marathons, well 26.2 is…

Why didn't it work? I have the Garmin 405CX and I love it. Most people don't do their research and realize that Garmin products only are fully functional and at their most accurate when they have a GPS signal. So if you bought a 405 and tried to use it in the gym, it won't work unless you buy the footpod. I only use my…

Have fun! Good luck fighting the addiction to keep signing up for more races after you finish tomorrow!

I'm also not a fan of tattoos in the slightest, but if it's what you want, get it. Is it something you're going to want on your body in 40 years though? It does look like a tattoo that an 18 year old would have not a 60 year old IMHO though. Tattoo removal is painful and not cheap, so think long and hard and if it's what…

That's what I do. But I use egg whites instead of Egg Beaters and agave nectar instead of splenda. And yeah, I load it with at least a tsp of cinnamon. Mmm!
-
Nope, that's not bad. But it will decrease your overall hydration a bit, so just drink an extra 8-16oz of water to cover it!
-
Holy Splenda! I love my protein pancakes...but I use cottage cheese and egg whites instead of yogurt and protein powder. A really good alternative (I think) to Splenda is agave nectar, I mix a bit into the batter and drizzle a bit on the top when they're done. Yes, not calorie-free but give me 30 calories for 1/2 tbsp…

Quite honestly, if you're losing weight while training for a marathon (especially at a healthy weight) than you're doing something wrong. With that said, your net calories should be higher about 1400-1600. I am also training for a marathon (my first) and I haven't weighed myself in 2+ months. Although, I would love to lose…

Would you be mad if she bailed on you just because "she didn't feel like it"? I imagine so. Go, have a drink or two, alternate between water/some clear liquid and people will be none the wiser.

Source: http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2580/exercise-does-running-burn-more-calories-than-walking Might not be the best source, but it makes sense if you think about it. My head hurts now though!

Why isn't it fitness? A huge part of running speed is your stride length and your turnover (how fast your feet touch down). The heavier/less fit a person is, the slower they walk. Ever see a chubby person struggling to maintain a slow pace walking around the mall while sweating? That struggle isn't a sign of their lack of…

Yeah I hadn't before this year...but I moved to an area that I'm not 100% comfortable running when it's dark and have had people approach me/call out to me sooo I do my speedwork usually on the dreadmill. I run a lot of races, quite a few of them are 5Ks, but I'm training for a marathon (and a half) right now, in addition…

Yep, I assure you I have held all of these paces (no exaggeration) according to my Garmin. I just refer to at a treadmill pace/mph because I think most of the people responding use the treadmill. I don't trust the accuracy of treadmill speed either...and run 1x a week (if even) on a treadmill. Yes, I have walked at a…
-
5'3 and I can easily walk at 4.5. I can ever walk super fast at 5mph. And no, I don't have super long legs. In terms of running, I've never run slower than a 5.8mph pace. My easy pace is about 6.3, but I can run up to 9 on a treadmill, and can hit about 11mph in a sprint. I think it's all relative and has a lot to do with…
