  • You just do. I love running because I can see my hard work pay off. It's easy to see when your race times drop, your longest distance increases or when you win an Age Group! I don't know that trying to force yourself to run is the way to go. I say find a friend, go run somewhere scenic and enjoy. Don't run too fast, just…
  • ^^ THIS. If you can't get your BF% measured accurately, get a pair of calipers and measure monthly. Even if you measure wrong, as long as you do it the same way consistently it'll show you a change and is far more accurate then showing you water fluctuations in your body as your scale does.
  • Banana Republic, even better if it's an outlet. Full price it's more money than I care to spend...but I often get them for $20-$25 and their 2P is a perfect fit for me.
  • Uh 2 miles a day for 8 days straight?! Recipe for disaster if you're not a runner. Every other day for the time being. And the shoes, obviously. Stretch and ice and get fitted properly (at a running store).
  • Not a Manning fan at all (Go Brady) but my guess is somewhere warm or a dome. It'll be much easier to play given his injury. I say Arizona Cardinals!
  • I don't get dirty looks per se but I do get the "Where's the unhealthy stuff" and "Is this really what you eat?"...No, I just spend money on stuff that's going to rot?! Pfffft.
  • Do what I normally do?! I really don't understand why people get so worked up over one day. I also am a pretty independent person so I'm not of the mentality that I "have to be in a relationship to feel good about myself". Who the heck cares? I'm much more concerned with being happy and healthy than being in a…
  • With 85 pounds to lose, not necessarily. Go for 1/2. With 15 pounds to lose, yes.
  • Visit? Sure. But I'd personally choose Hilton Head/Hilton Head Island over Charleston.
  • Oh God, DON'T move here. I just moved here last summer and I'm trying to get the hell out. Was looking at living in downtown, but the places were just not good quality and the rent you pay for some of the places was absurd for what you got, plus there is/was a crazy arsonist randomly burning down apartments downtown when I…
  • Boston is, but "right outside Boston" is a very subjective term. And in Boston proper, you won't be a studio for under $1400. And median home price is probably closer to $500-$550K.
  • I live in the Charleston area and rent is $950 (utilities not included) for my 660 square foot apartment. I pay more than most for rent, but I refuse to live in a dodgy area. I also make more than the median income for a family unit in the town I live in as a single woman, so I am okay with paying a higher rent and can…
  • Depending on the time of year - Boston is lovely in the summer (and has 4 seasons unlike many places...THE SOUTH, ugh). A lot of good local breweries, Red Sox, beaches, what more could you want? It's also ridiculously accessible via the T and walkable, so no car rental needed! Other than that, San Diego is lovely as well.…
  • If I never ran on sore legs, I would never run. I run the day after every race, just a recovery run to get my muscles moving - sure it's uncomfortable, but I've found that it helps me get over it. If I wait a day, then the soreness just keeps building.
  • I've really only had GI problems maybe twice before and it was due to too much grease/fat at race pasta dinners. If my stomach feels iffy (in any capacity) before a race/run, I pop 2 pepto bismol chewables. I can eat oatmeal and a banana or a Marathon Bar and a banana before a long run or race and be completly fine. I…
  • Oh no, don't put words in my mouth. A low burn doesn't mean you shouldn't do something, with body weight training and weight training, your HR will never get (and stay) very high. I'm just saying that you're not going to burn as much, but not that doesn't mean it's not worth doing at all. I'm being forced to step back from…
  • I've never tried the Bar Method DVDs, but I just started taking barre classes. First one kicked my *kitten*. I've heard great things about the Bar Method. With that said, you are small and if you're fit, you're apt to burn less calories.
  • This is sad, honestly.
  • I honestly don't need a pay day to buy stuff, but I did purchase a higher density foam roller (bring on the pain train!) today - and I do get paid this week. Every 2 weeks. I look forward to earning vacation time more than getting paid though!
  • Stay hydrated. Run early. Honestly, clothing can only make so much of a difference when it's so hot and humid, nothing can wick away that much sweat. I trained for a marathon over the summer (my first summer in the South) and there is nothing you can do when the heat index is at 110+ and you have to run.
  • I have 40 bibs (since April 2010) with race name, date, time, AG place, etc in a binder, but I'm trying to figure something out.
  • Hood and Friendship both make "No Salt Added" versions. I couldn't stomache all the sodium before I found, these options. It is amazing, good for you and you need to find a new doctor for sure. Both the above are 90ish calories for a 1/2 cup serving with 14-16g of protein and less than 100mg of sodium.
  • Dynasty. I hope you're crying now...
  • lean protein - i.e. chicken and fish And I second the protein powder. I *only* and very sparingly use it for baked goods.
  • Try 4 washers and 4 dryers for an entire apartment community...and they are never all working. I wait 10 minutes, and then I move their stuff and either put it on the table or in a dryer if there is one available. The second I put my laundry in, I start a timer countdown on my phone. I feel like that's the considerate…
  • Got in a -10F (-25F with windchill) last winter. It was bad, but the right gear will get you through it.
  • To the OP, I seriously hope you don't wish that TB breaks a leg. And there is no way in H*LL that Boston fans are ruder than NY fans. That's pretty much all I have to say....the Pats will stomp all over the Ravens tomorrow. Oh and Flacco, who the h*ll is that guy?
  • Here's my list... 2 Mile: 14.22 (11/19/2011) 5K: 22.42 (12/03/11) 5 Mile (8K): 37.31 (09/24/11) 10K: 51.22 (10/1/11) 10 Mile: 1:27.47 (4/3/11) Half Marathon: 1:52.12 (10/23/11) Marathon: 4:11.11 (11/5/2011) Looking for a sub-22 5K, a sub-50 10K, a sub-1:45 half and a sub-4 marathon this year.
  • Honestly, keep saving if you can't get a quality Polar. You need one with a chest strap (it isn't annoying you barely notice it). I have the FT60 and is among the most reliable and accurate. I also have a Garmin GPS for my running. I don't know much about the FT4, but this one (yes it's brown and kind of ugly) is $60.58…
  • A surplus of 14,000 calories over your TDEE = a 4 pound gain. I very much doubt you did that. It's most likely water retention in your body - either due to strenuous activity or too much sodium, or both.
