  • olymp1a- break my plateau and lose 2 kgs, burn at least 300 calories daily and complete at least 15 hours of yoga practice. raquelena -Ok, my aim is to lose 10lbs (I'm being slightly optimistic about my Christmas restraint :P), log in EVERYTHING, and exercise EVERYDAY. I want to enter 2012 looking lean and mean…
  • I was using the Games as an example if some people don't know what CF'ing is. And yes, I am aware of the work that goes into being able to compete in the CF Games. The body type of a woman who Crossfits (and yes I know some non-elite CF'ing women) is not one I want. Just my .02, I am agreeing that women shouldn't be afraid…
  • Necessary evil pretty much sums it up...
  • I agree, but I think that women that Crossfit do not look good. My boss (who owns/runs a Crossfit gym) has even admitted that women who Crossfit tend to look more masculine. Watch the Crossfit Games on ESPN (or ESPN2) if you need some proof... Muscle is good, I don't worry about bulking up, but I have seen some women (a…
  • Okay, I'm back! I need a bit of a challenge! I have no idea what my goals will be, but I'll be back with them soon enough! I did run my marathon on November 5th, did pretty well (beat all 3 of my goal times, except for my "dream" time) and finished with a HUGE smile on my face! December will see me focusing on eating more,…
  • Sorry, I should have clarified - that whole post wasn't for you :-D Certainly not the Kool-Aid part! I'm sure you've done your research enough to know what you should/shouldn't run in! So many people are just "fascinated" by the Vibrams and it's just stupid, frankly...it's like me going to run a marathon in a pair of…
  • Drinking the "Born to Run" Kool-Aid?! To each his or her own, but if you KNOW you have issues...talk to someone before you go try out and try barefoot running or minimalist. And yes I'm going to call it a fad, it is a fad because people "want to wear the finger shoes"... maybe people didn't wear them 2000 years ago, but…
  • Don't do it. Only a very small percentage of the population can run barefoot without issue. Ask any physical therapist, orthopedic surgeon...it is not for most, really it's for like .1% of the population. Stick with what you know, a lights stability shoe is you're best bet, that's what I run in. I see VFFs as a huge fad as…
  • Oh you're totally speaking my language. Asics 2160s, Brooks Adrenaline 11s and Mizuno Wave Inspire Osakas (Special Edition) are my current 3. I have a few older pairs that I'll wear every once in a while, love, love shoes. Looking to get the Brooks ST Racer and Brooks Pure Cadence as well in the next few months... 2160s…
  • Keurig. Get one that can use the My K Cup adapter so he/you can buy whatever ground coffee you want and you'll save quite a bit of money. Plus it's much fresher than using the pre-made K Cups that have been sitting on shelves in the plastic containers for who knows how long. With that said, if you/he aren't the type of…
  • Depends on what line of work you're in. There are sponsorships to be had, but they aren't the easiest to get and they involve a commitment, some more than others. With that said, as someone who runs a lot of races and travels quite a bit for them, I wouldn't ever think of financing a race. If I can't afford it right then…
  • I'm not married, and I don't find it condescending...I just don't like the word "hubby", just as I cannot stand the word "preggo".
  • You need more than water. You need electrolytes, and some sort of food. I ran a marathon a few weeks ago on 7 Gus (700 calories), 12 oz of Powerade (80 calories) and quite a bit of water. You're asking for trouble (especially if you're not a distance runner) to do this in May with nothing to sustain you.
  • If you're sweating, then you stop exercising, your body cools down...of course you're going to get cold. I ran a marathon last weekend and ran into it big time. Grabbed my heat sheet, and went straight to the gear check to get my extra layers. Same thing happened for my half yesterday. Basically, it's completely normal,…
  • $26 will buy you a pair of workout pants and a set of dumbbells. That will get you results. These pants are a gimmick!
  • Marathon Bars and Gu gels. I've also used Honey Stinger chews and Gu chomps.
  • Are you just looking for options? Or are you really choosing now? I personally think you should run your first half before you start thinking about what your first full will be (or at least be near the end of your training). And by the time 2013 rolls around, there will probably be more races to choose from. Races are…
  • My first is Saturday! My second is in March and my third is probably 2 weeks after my second :) My advice: commit to it. Don't make any excuses, listen to your body and you will do things you never thought were possible. It is an amazingly journey, equal amounts difficult and rewarding. Best of luck to you!:flowerforyou:
  • You probably don't need anything if you're smart about it. I lived in the White Mountains of NH last winter and I ran throughout the winter (and during several major snowstorms) and never needed anything but my sneakers, some good running gear (Pearl Izumi tights and Mizuno Breath Thermo are the best) and was fine.
  • Yeah I'm a Boston girl living in South Carolina. And shocked by the food. I do not like grits, fried food, or pie (other than apple pie)! I do like BBQ, but I've yet to have anything great down here that I couldn't get elsewhere! And I agree on the races. South Carolina has about 6 half marathons a year, Massachusetts has…
  • California has the best sushi.
  • October was a great month for me! PR'd my 10K on 10/1; PR'd my 5K on 10/22 and PR'd my half on 10/23! Also PR'd my 8K (but that was 9/24). Good month for me, also won first in my AG in the 5K this past Saturday (and did the same for my 8K on 9/24). I'm in the zone now, first marathon coming up on 11/5. Feeling confident!…
  • I'm not sure what you mean by "far side", is that your outside of your foot or inside?
  • If you can run 10, you can run 13. But mentally, it's nice to know you're that much closer. I say go for the 12!
  • I wouldn't change your corral yet honestly, you never know what's going to happen, And I personally think it's a jinx. But I also accidentally put myself in a WAY faster corral! Gotta live up to the speed now I suppose! Otherwise this is from one of the RnR race websites: **Race changes are only allowed up to 8 weeks prior…
  • Quite a few people train running 3x a week and there is some added benefit with extra recovery time and such. However, if your fitness classes are cardio or HIIT type classes, it's probably not going to be as beneficial to you. So I would make sure you're getting more strength training in when at the gym (+ a yoga class)…
  • +1 on this. Not be willing to carry a weapon does not mean you are naive. I personally find that implication to be highly offensive.
  • Moving is always an option. There is always something you can do, you might not want to do it and it might be hard, but you can always pick up your stuff and move. And no, the original post was about bringing protection along with you, not about safety. The post isn't about wearing bright reflective clothing, carrying…
  • Then it's probably advisable for you to move or not run in your neighborhood. Running with a gun is probably not going to help you if they're that organized and high profile, just saying.
