I'm 5'10 and started at 279 lbs. I lost 10 lbs in the first week, 25 lbs in the first month. After that it tapered down to 2-3 lbs a week for a while, then 1-2, then 0.5-1. Don't rush it. I looked at your diary and 1500 cals per day seems too low. Even while I was cutting hard, I kept to 2000 per day net calories. At your…

@lydbabes1994 ... Fear not, I'm not obsessing on the past, what I "should have done", etc. I recognise that my weight caused the knee problems, but I've used that to fix myself. Now it's all about what I have accomplished, and about what I will accomplish in the weeks, months and years ahead.

Thanks! That's a big complement! Now that I have the tux look down, the next target is the beach bod, in time for a July holiday. PS -- Your Reese's PB Cups were a favourite of mine ... way too much so! I had to walk away from them ... I couldn't control myself once I had one.

Thanks! A big part has been friends who have been there to support me throughout, and occasionally, when needed, to give me a good kicking to keep going.

Down 12.5 lbs for the month! Now to tackle the rest ... but at a pace more like 5 lbs per month over the next three months.
-
Congratulations! Fantastic transformation!
-
Thanks! Yes, being out of work was definitely a distraction, and starting a new job had the potential to throw me off track, but I stuck with it. 2014 turned out to be a very good year!

I was 90 lbs heavier ... and my knees were in constant pain. Today, I'm not running marathons, but I'm way healthier and happier.
-
Way to go! Excellent achievement.

Over 50 as well, started here last January, and lost my target weight. You can all do it too! I look forward to reading your success stories this time next year. For a little motivation, here's mine. PS -- Exercise, while not necessary for weight loss, is important for fitness and strength. Having been there, I strongly…

^^^ This ... even if I've had a +1500 to 2000 cal meltdown day, I log it. I'm more interested in the weekly totals/average, than the daily fluctuations. Plus, seeing the weekly numbers helps me correlate to the weekly movements on the scale, and for me, they correlate pretty well.

Fantastic work! Welcome to the finish line ... of the first event. Next up is maintaining and improving even further. Keep that same focus in place that got you to your current level.

In the last year, I've focused on the weekly average. My Mon-Fri were typically under by a bit, my Sat was usually over, and my Sun pretty much spot on. As I heard someone say in a nutrition podcast, you don't have to be an A+ every day of this journey ... if you're B+/A- on average overall, with only the occasional F (for…

It happens. You get up the next day, and start again. You ignore your fall, and you commit to do well today. What you don't do is kick yourself. No self pity or self loathing. Accept that it happened, and move on today. Take it one day at a time, and you'll get there.

She blamed her obesity on PCOS, claimed >2/3 of PCOS sufferers are obese or overweight. Guess what ... 2/3 of Americans are overweight or obese* http://frac.org/initiatives/hunger-and-obesity/obesity-in-the-us/ - In the U.S.: 68.5% of adults are overweight or obese; 34.9% are obese. *…

You might, you might not, it's not really possible to say. Whether or not you have it, you'll be fitter and healthier when you've dropped that 100+ you're after. I've lost ~100 myself ... I have a little loose skin, and I would never, ever go back to being obese ... I'll accept my slightly loose skin on my healthier body.

I use the recipe option in MFP ... put in all the ingredients, getting the total calories for what has been prepared. The tricky part is determining how many portions are in the meal, and how many servings/portions I've had.

Based on this text, you could have been my wife writing about me. I was tired of being fat and out of shape (no quotes necessary). But I didn't do anything about it, and over the years, got more obese and more out of shape, regardless of how much my wife tried to help me. Then, in Dec 2013, I saw a photo of myself (see…

I can't run, due to bad knees. In 2014, I cleaned up my intake dramatically, and I spent the first 6 months walking, the second 6 months on the elliptical and lifting weights. I'm down significantly since my start point. So yes, you can lose weight and gain fitness with the elliptical, but you also need to control your…

Nutrition, cardio and weights for me.

Well done!!!

Admiring her transformation ... but my secret crush is a bit farther up the thread.
-
Well done! Congrats!!!

Agreed ... weight loss is indeed just down to math ... been there, done it, bought the (much smaller!) t-shirt. The tricky part is managing your intake so that you keep your appetite under control, so that you keep your input calories under target. For this part, different foods affect different people differently, so what…

Well done! You look great at your midway point. Without a doubt, you will be absolutely stunning when you reach your destination.

Thanks folks. An update to my story. I started 2014 with significant knee pain and problems, including difficulty walking stairs. I realized this week that I'm now walking up the stairs two at a time, hands free. Last year I practically had to grasp the rail and pull myself up.

Saturday weigh in ... down 12.5 lbs in Jan ... goodbye Christmas cakes & cookies!

Thanks!

Your diary is closed. If you open it, and accurately log, folks will be able to give you more focused advice.
