I eat a lot more fresh food now, which can be a little more costly, but I eat a lot less food now (read, cut out most of the junk), so the net is, my healthy eating is cheaper overall.

Don't you mess with my PB! ;) But seriously, £8? Where do you shop? I pay £2-£3 for a large jar.

Let's see, using the Scooby calculator for my height, my university age weight, and a variety of ages, I get the following maintenance calories for sedentary activity level: age* 21: 2200 cals * age 52: 2000 cals * age 65: 1900 cals So, I can do two things.* I can look at that list, say that it's inevitable that I'm going…

OP, On the outside chance you've returned, you might find this video to be of interest: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA9AdlhB18o There's another one for you, about accuracy in measurement vs estimating, but I can't find it at the moment - @rabbitjb , maybe you have a link?
-
Congrats! And as you lose further weight, your knees will be even happier. My knees certainly are.
-
Until you weigh/measure with complete accuracy, or until you've seen a doctor and have a proven, diagnosed medical condition, we're not going to believe you have the ability to gain that much weight on your asserted caloric intake. Sorry.
-
He is estimating his input, not measuring properly, and believes he is only taking in 1200 cals a day, yet he weighs ~234 lbs right now. The numbers just don't add up.
-
Sorry, but the only thing stuck at a "set point" is your mindset. But if you'd like to believe that you are forever stuck at 233, that's your choice.

A kindred spirit!

I popped your stats into this calculator, and assumed you have a desk job. It came back with 1841 cals for maintenance, 1473 cals (TDEE-20%) to lose 0.7 lbs per week. Given that you only have 10-15 lbs to lose, 1500-1600 looks just about right, putting you at 0.5 lbs or so per week ... a nice sustainable rate. Best of…

OP asks "Can I Lose 80 lbs. in 9 weeks?" <clickety clickety click> "Computer says nooooo"
-
Thanks @WBB55 !

In that case, all you can do is practice portion control, and get a rough idea of intake v burn. Watch your portions; filling up with water and low-cal raw vegs helped me with that. Best of luck, and hopefully that scale will be under your tree come December.

I've been here. I didn't ask my wife to do anything differently. I just worked with her the first few weeks, and I meticulously weighed everything before she started, and then she went on and cooked as normal. Then, once the food was done, if it was a casserole dish, I sized up servings (e.g. cut into equal sections) so…

I agree entirely with @janejellyroll. For example, instead of recording generic homemade chicken, weigh the raw chicken, weigh the breadcrumbs, measure the milk, note the egg, note any oil used for cooking. For the mayo, instead of "2 tbsp", weigh the amount of mayo in grams with a digital scale. Mayo packs a lot of…
-
Agreed, this is a better way to do it. Thanks.
-
For the bacon, I would have used the raw cals, and ignored the "removed fat" calories. mayo is tricky ... i found out the hard way (via peanut butter) that it's better to weigh mayo than use tbsp units, because a) you're probably using a measuring spoon, b) you're probably getting a bit of a rounded spoonful than a flat…

That TDEE number seems high to me, based on other calculators I have used. I think you're going to be disappointed with your results if you follow that one. If you go back to page 2 of this thread, you'll see what numbers I got for you via a different calculator. Regardless, the net is, set a target, weigh/measure/record…

Sorry you're finding this so frustrating. I'd like to add two things ... 1) I've been friends with @rabbitjb for a while ... she knows her stuff, and she's straight-up/no-nonsense with her advice, which comes largely from her own experience, learning and success (both at weight loss, and maintenance). 2) Short version of…

I just snorted my green tea out my nose from laughing so hard at this one! Thanks @Forty6and2 !

I wasn't at a computer earlier, so I couldn't take a screenshot. Here is what I get when I enter your stats: This seems much more reasonable than what you presented, given my own personal stats and experience.
-
Can you check all of your settings/inputs and try again? With your stats, I got 2162 for maintenance, and 1729 to lose 0.9 lb per week.
-
+1 to the OP! Many folks just don't get this. Glad you've understood the difference between logging and logging accurately. PS - @Mischievous_Rascal and @rabbitjb know their stuff. You are wise to heed their advice.
-
Well, to be honest, those numbers and calculators worked for me when I was cutting. I'm 5'10", started at 279. The way I did it was I put in my stats, but I used "desk job" to set a baseline. Then when MFP gave me credit for exercise calories, I only ate back half of them. One possibility is that you are not as active as…

From your profile, I see your age. Can you provide your height, current weight and target weight, so that we can check your suggested calorie targets? You're profile page says you have 40 lbs to lose, but your "30 year" comment seems to indicate you have more to lose. Your current weight will affect your intake numbers.…
-
Hi, First congrats on your losses to date, and best of luck to you with the rest of your program. I think the reason you see CICO comments so often is that first and foremost, it's the single common denominator in getting the weight off. The manner in which you do your CICO (low carb, low fat, keto, veg/vegan, etc) is up…

OP ... your post sounds like my thinking for 10 years of attempted dieting, where I bounced around between 50 and 100 lbs overweight. It wasn't until I started MFP, started weighing/measuring virtually everything I ate (which drove my wife nuts sometimes when she was trying to cook), consistently tracked my input, and…

Same here! Well done, and great attitude!

PS - Learn the difference between boredom hunger and real hunger. I find if I'm busy, I'm not hungry, but if I'm sitting around, suddenly I want to eat. Once I realised that, I was able to prevent/stop hunger, and the extra activity helped the Calories Out portion of the equation.
