  • It's an amazing feeling! Congrats!
  • I'm not the only one who loves Jack Black?!? And Gerard Butler. And Jeremy Piven.
  • Get plenty of sleep the night before. Drink plenty of water the day before, and the morning of. Eat what you normally eat for breakfast before running. And most of all...HAVE FUN!!
  • I started to snap, crackle and pop in my mid-20's...and I don't wear a brace for anything. You might want to try taking something like glucosamine for your joints.
  • This actually made me a little nauseous. Ew.
  • I have noticed over the past couple of years that swimming is incredibly easy to build stamina quickly. When I started out a couple of years ago, I could barely make it the length of the pool without stopping and gasping for breathe...but within a couple of weeks I was swimming much more consistently. Good luck on your…
  • Congrats! I've figured by #3, I now know what to expect during a marathon. :) The standard I've heard is 1 day for every mile for recovery. Make sure to get plenty of sleep in the next couple of weeks. I took 2 months between my last 2, and I think 1 more month would have been good. I just wasn't that interested in doing…
  • I experienced the same thing. BUT, I've also been keeping track of my measurements, and those have decreased. Yes, weight loss is my goal, but I'm relishing in all of the other side benefits right now of feeling great!
  • Do not let asthma stop you. I, too, have horrible asthma...and the endurance training actually makes it a lot better. It increases your lung capacity making it a lot easier to breathe. The main thing is don't go too fast, don't get your heart rate too high, and it will help you avoid an asthma attack.
  • One of my favorite methods is instead of binging on all of the high calorie foods, take just a bite or 2, then load up on all of the good for you stuff.
  • You should go through with the actual race. I rank completely my first triathlon among my top accomplishments...ever. Beyond that...they're really fun.
  • Weight yourself 1 time a week, on the same day each week, at the same time of day.
  • We race rain or shine! Unless it's REALLY bad...then it's up to the race director whether or not they'll cancel. Have fun!
  • I think it also has a lot to do with the intensity of your workout. The greater the intensity of the work out (or distance) is going to affect what your body needs for fuel before, during and after. So for me, if I'm doing something like yoga/light strength training, eating nothing is fine; 45 minutes of cardio and I eat a…
  • I kind of have...as has one of my friends. I can definitely tell a huge difference in the amount of energy I have, as well as the amount of sleep that I need. It's been great!!
  • I had this problem...especially during my first marathon (and associated training) this year...and I ended up getting new shoes with a wider toe box...and a half size larger. My problems have completely gone away. Shoes and socks make a HUGE difference. Yes, your race is in 20 days, but that's actually plenty of time to…
  • Awesome motivation. I was sitting here, exhausted, and not wanting to run tonight...but I'm definitely going to now!
  • Evening's have always been my toughest time too! I've gotten to the point where I don't even realize how much I've eaten until I look down and the entire bag is gone :( And yet I was shocked when the scale kept going up. Maybe try switching up your diet. I did this, and since I have, I've been doing a lot better. I mainly…
  • I agree...keep at it!! It's impossible to cut calories and not lose any weight...over time. Maybe you need to try to shake things up a little, maybe make some changes to your diet. Lots of fruits and veggies, lean meats, less processed stuff...it's amazing the difference something like that can make!
  • Chocolate milk is an amazing post work out recovery drink. Though I wouldn't use that as your entire meal. My favorite breakfast is: Baked Sweet Potato Ham Mushrooms Red Pepper (saute the ham, mushroom and pepper together, and place over the sweet potato) 2 eggs over easy (put the eggs over everything else) It's really…
  • I say leave the goal where it is now. For a couple of reasons 1) Your body will slow down the weight loss and 2) being this close to it already nearly ensures your success of reaching your goal! Good luck!
