  • i am with kerrylucko, in my experience there is nothing worse for losing weight than getting your body used to anything. once in a good while, when i hit a plateau, i'd overeat on purpose. i'd invite friends to a big brunch and eat way too much of everything nobody's ever supposed to eat. i don't know if it's the guilt…
  • The way I understand it there are two reasons to eat the exercise calories: (1) You want to prevent your body from entering "starvation mode", in which it tries to save calories left and right because it thinks you are about to suffer from a food shortage. When that happened to me, I would simply lose energy (which my…
  • Friends of mine in Italy swear there is nothing better on this planet than a fresh croissant, sliced in half, with some fat-free ricotta and Nutella.

  • I'd certainly spend 5 minutes on thedailyplate.com and check how your favorite foods look like nutritionally. Additionally, I'd eat something filling and low on carbs about an hour before starting the meal to avoid the cravings for breadsticks and similar snacks. Don't go there hungry! Cheers. :drinker:
  • I just wonder if the machine makers "cheat" a little. After all, if you can do 500 calories on one machine and "500 calories" with much less effort on a different one, which one would you choose???
  • My very personal experience is that after a hard workout the only thing I can think of at all is food, which is shocking, because it's usually something different that I think of... :blushing: I think for people that need to lose weight, the problem is the yo-yo effect: you don't eat trying to get the pounds off, then the…
  • Ali, I lived all over the place: Stuttgart, Aachen, Cologne, Berlin, and Hamburg. I don't think I ever noticed any difference in the health care, it's pretty much the same all over the country. (It's a fairly small country, too - you'd think it's much bigger, but you can drive from one end to the other easily in one day).…
  • Ali, I haven't heard of this surgery, but I lived for over 15 years in Germany. I would say that the medical system is top notch, one of the finest in the world and quite comparable to what we have here in the States. Language is usually not an issue, since a lot of Germans speak quite passable English. I'd feel…
  • Ah, yes, a lot of people see that. Sometimes, when you start working out, your body just starts building muscle instead of losing weight. If you want to track that happening, you could buy a bodyfat monitoring scale. If you are losing the inches and not losing the weight, that should be motivation enough! See yourself…
  • Replying to the original question: I guess the calories you burn with exercise are actually burned. You need to replenish what you've used. As far as whether it's better to have constant calorie intake or constant net calorie intake: aren't you hungry? Doesn't hunger tell you after a long workout it's time to eat some? If…
