Look into heavy weight lifting definitely, I have been following StrongLifts 5x5 for a while and I've seen great results. I combine it with cardio as well for fitness/health/endurance purposes (and because I enjoy my Zumba and Body Combat classes) so for me it's the perfect mix. My schedule at the moment looks something…

Oh, oh, and on that same line, my last obsession: chicken and bacon muffins!
-
I'm very dull but...: - Canned tuna in spring water - Chicken breast - BACON! (or turkey bacon :P) - 0% FAGE greek yoghurt/Alpro Soya Simply Plain Yoghurt (I wish I could have Fage more often but I'm lactose intolerant so need tablets and even with them, it might not go down well :/). Definitely my main two sources of…

Definitely. I think one of the important points though is what we consider overweight or how we "measure" it. BMI? Body fat? The usual BMI does not work for many people because it's just something generic which doesn't really take into account your personal conditions (e.g. big, small, medium frame?) but it's just based on…

Very good suggestion indeed, trying this next time!!

Wow, thanks a lot for all the feedback!! I have to say that I was doing them with a small box I made with a few of those steps you use to buid a "plastic bench" (if I'm explaining myself at all...). That definitely helped me to go lower and doing the sitting back (I think for some reason I might be scared of sitting back…

Right... posting another video of my squats after a few weeks doing SL. Not proud of them but I can tell you I could not even get that lower before so I think I'm getting there with the depth. You can ignore completely the first rep (hello depth?) and I know they are pretty crap anyway, considering the low weight (which…

I have to say that what the PT suggested sounds indeed very good to me, sounds like the right balance. With heavy lifting, you will bump your metabolism and get rid of the fat while retaining some of the muscle without losing it all together with fat which is what would happen with only cardio but cardio does have some…

A-ma-zing!

Oooops, a few "catch-up" work outs I have to post :D I have completed my first week of SL and today I'm doing workout B (yeeeey) I've now ordered some 1.25kg weight plates of my own because my gym only has 2.5kg increments and 5kg each time for each exercise feels like a lot to mefor now so I've been working on the form in…

Thanks for commenting, I know there is really no point with the smith machine! Yesterday, we sort of re-created a "squat rack" in the functional room by using two of the PVC handles that people use there to do pull ups and so on so we could leave the bar there. Therefore, I did squat yesterday without any other support…

Hell yeah! thanks for the comment, I have to say it sort of felt good to be the only girl in the free weights area surrounded by bros, while all the girls were either on the treadmill, bikes, etc. :D

Thanks again :) I posted a video on the form check post with my "squats" from yesterday, it did take a lot of readjusting and small steps here and there until it felt a bit less awkward but yeah, I was gutted when I find out it was a Smith Machine as when we were showed the gym it was a very brief viewing and all I could…

Right, embarassed to post this as I don't think you can even call this a squat but I need to learn how to improve them and I'm very keen and open to feedback and advise! My thoughts: booooooooooooooo. And on a more serious note: I don't think I'm hitting parallel but then I'm surprised I actually managed to go that deep (I…

Thanks a lot for your kind comment!! I think I added you yesterday, see you around!!

Thank you!! :)

Heeey, newbie here... may I come in? :) I started SL yesterday and god it felt tough! I didn't think I was "that" weak but I was determined to push through the whole workout, even if that meant I had to stop sometimes to rest a bit between each rep. If I felt I didn't do it right, I repeated that again, so I ended logging…

Amazingly useful... getting as much info as I can as I'm starting SL 5x5 next week (or this Friday if I can't wait after I've had the induction at the gym :p). I already got pointed to the "ladies' corner" with mini dumbbells when I asked about the free weights area (and then after my face, the answer: aaaah, very heavy…

Thanks! Forgot to say that I´m now down to 160 lbs, moving from the "overweight-obese" limit to "overweight-healthy weight" slowly :)
-
Thank you everyone, you made my day :)

Thanks! :)

Updating the post with some new achievements :) I've now officially lost over 31 lbs (14.5 kgs) and yesterday I managed to complete my first 5k race. Sharing some pics with you all!

Another graduate here, completed my first official 5k race yesterday and in 33 mins!! So proud, 2 months ago I honestly could not run 30 seconds in a row! Some pics here for you to see my happiness face :P

Bringing this thread back to check later! Reading and doing a lot of research to start heavy lifting soon :)

Thanks! The skirt is amazing, I can´t actually wait to wear it for the first time!
-
Thank you very much :)
-
Thanks :)

Thanks for your kind words :) I have slowed down a lot, but the important thing is that I keep on losing, even if it´s only little now. I have now lost a total of 27lbs, getting there!

I'm not sure how to edit the first post so I'm adding an update here. I'm now down to 74.7 which finally puts me on the "overweight" category, so I'm not classed as "obese" anymore. Still think the BMI is not that accurate for everyone, I have very big/wide constitution so I'm not sure if I lose 14 kgs more, i'd look…
