  • I'll volunteer to be a mentor. My journey started when I was 270 lb's and 38% BF. Before this I had an on again off again relationship with exercise and eating well. I did a lot of things to loose weight, and while some of them worked I had a few habits that kept sabotaging my success. Finally when was in community college…
  • When I was at 200 lb's I would routinely eat between 1200-1300 calories and run for 1-2 hours 5 days a week. I was pretty successful until some personal family issues arose. Also starvation mode is somewhat of a myth. Your body's metabolism simply slows down a bit, you can still push through it mentally especially if you…
  • Nice job. What's your goal for the next 100 days?
  • I believe it takes 7 years for the surface of your skin to completely replace itself. So over time things should tighten up.
  • I don't really care about my sugar intake, I am normally below my RDA. I do tend to prioritize sugary foods before I workout. So for example I ate 150g of grapes 20 min ago(22g of sugar, 100 calories). Took my Pre-workout right now, and will be performing the P90x Ab ripper X workout in 10 minutes followed by an hour and a…
  • First make sure you are following the advice of everyone above. If you are strictly monitoring your intake, and not eating back your workout calories then it could be a long term constipation issue from high protein intake. Try upping your vegetable and fiber intake, sometimes you just need a little extra roughage to push…
  • It basically comes down to what you max weight was vs. your end weight. If you lost a lot a weight it's likely you will have loose skin. If you are young there is a better chance for the skin to return to a normal state. If you were severely over weight, and are not young, then the only choice may be surgery.
  • I believe that the effect is similar to a cleanse. You aren't loosing fat, you are simply ****ting out the crap that is in your intestines. I'm just guessing that when you are eating 12-1500 calories that you aren't getting enough roughage in your diet(unless you are eating a lot of vegetables) and combined with the fact…
  • This sounds logical to me. Also as your body adjusts to a workout you burn less calories during that same workout because you have a lower heart rate and more efficient metabolism so you may be over-estimating your workouts especially if they aren't as strenuous as they were 2 months ago.
  • Most people(men) are lucky to build 1 to 2 lb of muscle mass a month(without steroids of course). Could be water retention if your sodium intake or workout routine has changed. Also did you take a 3 day average for both weight measurements?
  • The first step is to acknowledge that you made a bad mistake, one that you do not wish to repeat. The next step is to move forward by making the right choice to be healthy now. Don't cry over split milk, but don't excuse it. Simply acknowledge it as a mistake and take steps not to repeat the same mistake in the future.
  • I judge people by the standard that they set forth for themselves. If someone finds that being honest is a virtue and they lie, I will call them on their hypocrisy. In the same manner if someone believes that being healthy is a virtue and they are not taking steps to be healthy then I will again call them on it. Life is of…
  • I wouldn't worry about sodium. It may cause you to retain 4-10 lb's of excess water depending on how much sodium you are taking in, but once your body adjusts to the increased sodium, your weight loss should continue as normal. In my case for example when I started dieting I gained about 6-8 lb's but after the initial…
  • You might want to see a doctor. I have heard of certain conditions dealing with metabolism that required individuals to eat every 2 or so hours to maintain blood sugar levels.
  • If you really want to deplete your glycogen stores, cant you just do a hard run for 30-40 minutes before working out? http://runnersconnect.net/running-training-articles/cience-of-bonking-and-glycogen-depletion/
  • I find muscle milk chocolate flavor to taste pretty good particularly in a shake, but I switched off of it because its high in carbs(added calories). I opt for optimum gold standard whey when I am trying to get a good nutrient mix for a good price, tastes bland and doesn't dissolve well. My favorite protein powder after…
  • I try to be under, but I will allow for up to a 10% margin of error. So if I am trying to get 84g of frozen chicken and the scale hits 90g I just count it as a single 84g serving.
  • Pure Protein High Protein Bar, Chocolate Peanut Butter are my go to protein bar. Easily found for a $1.50 they are cheap, with only 300 calories, 30 grams of protein. I normally take a few with me anywhere I go and might get cravings. My general rule is that I can eat as many protein bars as I want when I go out with my…

  • Green lentils are a godsend. Easy to cook, tasty, high in protein, high in dietary fiber. What's not to love.
  • We evolved on an omnivorous diet. That said we didn't eat that much meat, it was only about 20% of our diet. So yes, add a bit of meat back into yours. Most Americans however tend to get more than 50% of their calories from meat which is far more than our ancestors ever ate.
  • While at university I would often talk to organic chemist, biologists, and medical professionals and they all called BS on the GMO scare. The consensus was that there is a possibility for there to be negative side effects, but the should be handled on a case by case basis instead of casting a shadow on the entire industry.
  • The stuff marketed at Americans tends to be high in salt, sugar, and tends to be fried. That said I've been to plenty of family owned Asian food restaurants and the one thing I consistently notice is that the food that the people/owners who work there eat tends to be very plain compared to their menus.
  • I always find it funny when people come out of the woodwork once you loose weight, and start trying to tell you how it's unhealthy to loose so fast, how taking fat burners or supplements are unhealthy, or to eat so little is going to stop my metabolism. I just think " I lost 60 lb's and my doctor says that my vitals are…
  • I prefer a comprehensive approach. It's not mind over matter, its mind and matter. In the same way having extrinsic and intrinsic goals can work synergistically to help you improve. I have a pair of size 32 speedo's I hope to be able to wear to the beach one day to get a nice tan. It's kind of like putting money where my…
  • When I think back it's hard to recall any specific incident. I was called fat a lot, but it never really fazed me. I accepted that I was fat and felt that it was a valid criticism. What frustrated me the most was the constant you should loose weight or attempt to control what I was eating while everyone around me continued…
  • I log all the time, even when I am sick or injured. When sick I simply eat when I am hungry, but continue to eat healthy foods, which means I tend to hit my goals or be a little under because when I am sick I don't feel like eating. I just make sure to drink lots of water.

  • Thanks for the advice mickie. I practiced RICE for the first 4 days, but stopped afterwards because I read that it should only be done for the first few days. I think I will try RICE after workouts and wear the compress during exercise to limit swelling. Thanks again.
  • Why would I want to quit something that works?
  • I would eat 2000-2500 calories. You're not going to die eating that many calories, and you will likely loose 2+ lb's per week which at your weight won't pose any health issues. You just need to make sure you can stick with it.
  • Well since you've been doing this for a while and things are stabilizing either cut your calories further(250-500) or expand your workout(do an extra hour of cardio).
