  • When I could hardly get out of bed or go down the stairs easily first thing in the morning because I was SO stiff, coupled with the GP telling me I had dangerously high cholesterol. Both were the final straw, after spending the majority of the past 30 years as obese, and I told myself enough is enough. I’m now over 6 stone…
  • I think I must be in the minority! When I was obese, I ate anything but a healthy diet and did no exercise. Other than eating a reasonably healthy lunch (only because I had 'witnesses' in a staffroom), I ate hundreds and hundreds of calories daily in sweets, biscuits and icecream. I rarely made myself a proper meal other…
  • When I was losing weight, I definitely had a very healthy diet but it also included some treats. Initially my only exercise was an occasional walk, but as the weight came off, I felt more comfortable going back to the pool. Near the end of my weight loss journey, I swopped occasional walks for swimming 3-4 times a week.…
  • I spent most of my adult life yo-yoing up and down 3, 4, 5 stone. I’ve now successfully maintained a 6 stone (plus) weight for over 6 years. Different things will work for different people, but what’s working for me is logging every day as that keeps me accountable, exercising regularly, regularly reminding myself of how I…
  • I'm another weekly balance person and have been maintaining my weight more than 6 years. During this lockdown, I seem to have got into a pattern of eating 300 less on Monday, 200 less Tuesday, 100 less Wednesday, maintenance calories Thursday and Friday and 300 extra Saturday and Sunday. I'm only able to be quite…
  • I've been maintaining a 90lb weight loss for over 6 years, and I can still be surprised when I catch my image or side view in a mirror! I know I am slim and don't look in mirrors and think I'm not, however, there are some occasions when that mirror image glimpse just shocks me and I can't believe I'm the size I am! I also…
  • I'm maintaining my weight OK during the pandemic, if anything I've possibly lost a few pounds. My skin is a lot looser and stretchier than it was a year ago, and the very few times I've had jeans on, not leggings, they seem a wee bit looser too. I walk 10,000+ steps and eat an average of 2000 calories a day. I'm enjoying…
  • My trigger was dangerously high cholesterol, almost getting stuck in the bath and daily problems getting out of bed and walking downstairs after I had managed up. I put my success this time down to my decision to cut out biscuits/cakes, sweets/chocolate and icecream. The result is 6 years plus in maintence and nearly 7…
  • I've not weighed myself since April 2018. Prior to that, during this current weight loss/maintenance journey, I was weighing myself monthly. I've been in maintenance for roughly 6 years now and I'm mainly happy with how I'm managing it. I'm not saying I'll never step on the scales again, but I'm definitely not planning on…
  • I guesstimate I've lost a few pounds since March. I've not weighed myself in over 2 years but my clothes are looser and my loose skin (the aftermath of a 90lb weight 6 years ago) is more wrinkly and pliable! I'm exercising more (walking) and I'm eating one snack less a day due to getting up later and not having breakfast…
  • I've been maintaining a 90lb weight loss for 6 years and I put my 'success' down to logging every day and counting calories. In recent years I've gone more for a weekly total rather than a strict daily one, and that works well for me. I'm definitely in the, if it ain't broke, is don't fix it camp! After 30+ years of yo-yo…
  • Well done on reaching your goal... and staying there which IMO is the hardest part! I've been maintaining for about 6 years now and while I haven't weighed myself for over 2 years, I do track religiously, well almost religiously. I think everyone has to find out what works best for them and if it's working, stick with it.
  • I lost about 70lbs in 10 months eating an average of about 1500 calories a day. For the first 8 months I did no exercise but in month 9 I started swimming. I'm no expert but I suspect your goal is unrealistic if you want to lose weight in a healthy way.
  • 5+ years in maintenance and I track every day. Makes me accountable and ensures I don't over or under eat. Takes 5 minutes and the rewards are SO worth it. Maybe not for everyone but works for me.
  • I'm another banker too! I follow my own version of the 5/2 diet... 5 days at 1800 calories and 2 days at 2500 calories. I rarely need to go over 2500 but if I knew in advance I would need to, I'd bank more ahead of the high day. While I agree in principle that an off day here and there would not be that detrimental, I…
  • On this current weight loss/maintenance journey I've been on since 2014, whilst losing weight, I weighed every 1-2 months, and continued monthly for about 18 months after I reached maintenance. Then for the next couple of years, I weighed once a year in April. Then I decided I wasn't going to weigh myself at all (After…
  • I've logged every day since 1.1.14. Lost about 90lbs and have successfully maintained this loss for over 5 years. Weigh most food whenever possible which is probably 95% of the time. Can't see a time when I won't log but I always say, never say never!
  • Have been on MFP 'religiously' since Jan 2014 but this is my first post! Had been overweight and on diets most of my adult life and my weight fluctuated up and down by 5 stone or so for 30 plus years. Have successfully maintained my current 6.5 stone weight loss since early 2015 and I log every day. I know it can be a bit…
  • Thanks very much for the replies. I know I am eating very healthily so I will just continue with what I have been doing. However I think I will switch off the sugar goal in my settings as it is putting me off eating fruit!
