  • Ha! (and i dont mean that in a mean way, i have just never heard anything like that!) Today i read that it is better to not go to college. I think you should take everything with a grain of salt. I am a thin runner, and i am 28 and look about 15. Not a wrinkle in sight! i think sunblock and moisturizer is the key to…
  • $5? Now we're talkin! I think i might purchase some.
  • my roommate swears by body glide!
  • or if you get redonkulously hungry like me, you can put a bunch of tomato in there, and a couple strips of tofurkey (thats right, tofurkey) :D
  • my homemade ones :) But seriously, i like the morningstar farms grillers prime. They have a "meaty" taste to them (if that makes any sense....) I heard they make a quarter pounder version as well that is mighty tasty, but i haven't had it myself yet! spicy black bean is good too, but be warned - it actually is spicy!
  • i think you are better off getting out there and walking if you have too. Its been close to 90 here even at 6:30 am when i usually run. My pace has slowed significantly, and i take a lotttt of walk breaks. Even if you run slower, or end up walking half of it, its really good hot weather conditioning. My best advice is -…
  • I usually have about 100 calories a day of candy/candy-like snacks. I just make sure that it doesn't put me over. In my case, if i don't have the candy, i will make it a certain amount of time, and then freak out and eat a years worth of candy in one sitting. If you can just have one bad snack, i think your fine. Weight…
  • sushi is my favorite! I love to go to the fish market and make it myself. :) If you are new to it, tuna and salmon are pretty beginner friendly. Avoid the spicy ones because they usually have mayo. and its high in sodium if you have soy sauce, which how can you not, its amazing. I like the "mexican" ones...usually…

  • is anyone really surprised though? It's buffalo wild wings....i just thought it was inherent that it is really, really bad for you. (albeit yummy)
  • Thats a good point. I am saving a ton of money...but then i blow it all on cute running skirts, haha. Hopefully all this DD'ing earns me some bonus points in their eyes :)
  • I love them! especially on long runs. They keep me cooler than shorts, and don't bunch up. I like to wear tennis skirts because the are cuter (IMO) and they have built in compression shorts, so even during my stretching i don't have to worry about flashing. I am thin but bottom heavy. I am sure the skirts look better on a…
  • "The goal is to eat something green every day." (my roommate's advice) I was horrified to look back and realize i would go weeks without the greens. Now it's like a game :)
  • Can you bring a water bottle with you? I have trouble drinking in the morning, my stomach just wants nothing to do with it, but when i start running i get the thirst. I also get wicked heartburn. I basically just have to be really careful with what i eat for dinner.....pasta with a little olive oil and veggies sits really…
  • I have a slimfast shake for breakfast 3-4 times a week. it's not ideal, especially bc the sugar is so high and there is lots of weird preservitives, but for me the alternative is no breakfast. I really like the taste too, and am able to drink it while i am driving to work! Pro: its yummy (in my opinion) and easy and keeps…
  • It sounds like maybe its dehydration! Just make sure to drink water before and during your workout. Plus, the more you exercise, the more sleep deprivation catches up to you, so you may have always been tired, and are only starting to realize it now. 7-9 hours, it will work wonders! (if any of us can find the time!) :)
  • Some of them can be dangerous- i would avoid unless its a major problem. The most effective ingredient is the caffeine, i believe. I think you are just as well to save the money and have a cup of coffee and ice water with lots of lemon (a natural diuretic). :)
  • I don't think people are trying to be unwelcoming, i think it is more of a concern about diagnosing a medical issue over the internet. It could just be a pulled muscle or worn out shoes, but there is that small chance that it is something more serious. no one wants to give you bad advice :) As a preventitive measure, the…
  • bump! I would like one for city use :)
  • a little olive oil when you cook or on a salad always helps me! :) (or flax oil if you can stand it....its great for hair and nails...i am not a huge fan though)
  • Do you think it could be mental? maybe try distracting from the task at hand. Having a set destination, or walking through a garden? even shopping...... It might be hard to view exercise as healthy and fun after hating it for so long. My good friend just had the surgery and is having a hell of a time with it. I wish you…
  • I like to run in the morning when the temp is cooler....plus, if i go in the evening, i dread it all day bc it will be hot and i will be grouchy from work. I think it is whatever works best for your schedule!
  • one day at a time! you will be surprised how easy it is to morph into a healthy person without the smoking. GREAT JOB!!! :D
  • YESSSSS! i have another post on here describing it, but i once depantsed myself in race because i wore cotton leggings instead of dry-fit material. It was super embarrassing, and i will never run unless properly attired again. TJ maxxx and Marshals usually have great deals....or i like to wait for runners warehouse to have…
  • I had a sprain and was able to ride a stationary cycle as long as i had the ankle brace on, but her injury sounds much more serious. I have read that "water jogging" and "water aerobics" are good for people with injuries....could the doc recommend something? Hope she feels better soon!
  • this is awesome - thanks so much!! Also- from my own person experience - make sure you have race appropriate clothes. My first 8k i wore cotton leggings. Once i really got moving they started to stretch out and i ended up having them fall down, and show everyone my undies. (also, don't forget to wear undies!!) i had to pin…
  • Its funny that you mention dogs.....i have been lucky and never had a problem (knock on wood) but my roommate has been chased down by pitbulls twice while out running. It's good to be prepared, and i will definitely be more careful in the future!!
  • Can you offer to do something else? make an easy to heat dinner? offer babysitting services? I think thats what really means the most to people..... And you are not crummy at all. I always want to give more than i can, thanks to student loans. I am sure people understand this!
  • Its very similar to other intro to running programs (c25k, hal higdon). As long as you are in tune to your body enough to realize if you are having problems (injuries, etc) i don't see why you couldn't do this, and have a great time as well. One day at time is the way to go! (hope you have comfy shoes :)) GOOD LUCK!
  • I am also training for my first in Sept! I have been making my boyfriend join me on the long runs. He rides a bike next to me, and then i can strap my water bottle/gatorade onto the bike and not have to carry it. Also i am obviously a brat. As a fellow first timer, i have no advice and would love to hear from veterans! I…
