Back off a little! You stated in a post here that you do not care for bananas and potatoes and would rather get your nutrients elsewhere. Please give others the same option. Whether it is 400mg or 780 a potato is a good source of potasium. I dislike some of your nutrient sources, but I love bananas and potatoes. All this…

Bravo c2sky!

Friday 8/26: 65 minute mountain bike ride. They built a new purpose built exclusive mtb trail just 35 minutes from my front door. Oh happy day!

Many old school pro cyclist carry a bag of cooked red potato’s on their long rides and races for energy and nutrients for replenishment and repair. Healthy, easy to eat, cheap, and a great convenient source of energy.

Thursday 8/25 did a 35 minute easy trail run. I took my dogs with me since I run out in the middle of nowhere and never see a person. It's great to see them run, play, and swim in the river. Life is still good! Oh, and I know this is a Vuelta thread, but how about Big George winning the stage in CO yesterday and Tejay…

Thanks for welcoming me in! I did a short, easy 34 minute ride as the sun was coming up this morning (8/24) alongside a beautiful mist enshrouded river for the entire ride (an out and back.) I’m enjoying my taper/recovery week since I can pay more attention to the beautiful surroundings here in rural NE Georgia. I managed…

I did not sign up for the TdF challenge because I usually alternate days cycling and running and I did not know that running counted, I assumed that it was cycling only. If I read this thread correctly running, swimming, etc. do count. Is it to late to get in? I am in a taper week now but should still get in the 30 min…

I run three days aweek, cycle three days, and strength train two or three. When I run or cycle I can do so from my front door and just map out loops that get me home when I need to be there. In the winter I don't cycle but do cardio dvd's at home. For strength training I have dumbbells and a weight bench and do everything…

Congrats!!! And you are on your way further down. Good work!

Agree with the post that said it is important to be fitted by someone who knows what they are doing in a running shoe store. That will make more differense than brand or price; ill fitting $150 shoes are still going to be lousy! That said, for me Asics are great!

Bump so I can read the angry replies! Eat good, healthy, nutritious meals that provide all the nutrients you need and exercise daily and you can ignore all the diet talk and programs. PS: The debate about the body using muscle as fuel is addressed by the author down in the comments.

Hi, I'm a guy just dropping in to say congrats to all you ladies for doing strength training. There are many benefits to strength training beyond weight loss, such as increasing bone density. Most of you are probably too young to be thinking much about it but in years to come you will be glad that you began strength…

I adore my early morning trail runs watching the sun rise over the mountains reflecting off of the river! There's no one around to watch me but I like that.

I don't use either frquently because I am an outdoor type. I don't mind running in the rain or cold, but don't like the two together so I do a fair amount if indoor cardio in the winter. I far prefer the treadmill; I just hate ellipticals and feel totaly uncoordinated on them. On a treadmill I can zone out and the miles…

I use a Fuel Belt brand mainly because I looked at pictures of runners in Runners World and elsewhere and seemed to see them the most often. Some people find that the belts jiggle or move around but I don't have that or any problem. My runs are fairly short so I bought the two bottle version. If I had it to do over I would…

Excellent point about the pushing! I love all cycling, including leisurely rides. And leisurely rides are a great improvement over sitting on the couch; but serious fitness improvements come from serious excertion. Fitness improves rapidly with cycling and that is a good thing, but it is also very easy to ease up on the…

I live 5 miles from where I work so I often get to go home for lunch. I usually have grilled chicken breast on whole wheat and 8-10 Wheat Thins with a 40 cal fudgesicle to top it off. When I have to eat out it is similar, grilled chicken sandwich at Chick-fil-A, Wendy's, or where ever with a fruit cup or baked potato side.…

Yes, as many have posted, a heart rate monitor may be the best way to estimate calories burned, but even that is not perfect on a bike. I would always recommend a bike computer for every bike, whether you use a hrm or not. At least then you would know your actual ride time, average speed, and such. Mine auto starts and…

Removed post as this is really the wrong place to post it!

Laughed hard, but it’s easier to laugh when it’s someone else's story. This year I had about four weeks of terror on my trail runs due to horseflies. I've run the same trail for years and never had it this bad. The nasty things buzzed me and bit me en masse for the entire length of my 3x a week 5 mile runs. I flailed at…

Let me speak as a life long veggie hater trying to do better. The advice quoted here is guaranteed to drive him in the opposite direction from what you desire. If my wife uttered such words to me I can tell you that I do know how to cook and I'll gladly do so for the rest of my life! It would take some time to mend the…
