I know that's crazy how bad the dressing is. And it looks like some kind of vinagrette, so it's surprising it's so calorie-laden. But I love the salsa, so I use that as my "dressing."

This isn't the biggest loser, it's normal and healthy to lose 1-2 lbs a week. Sometimes the hard work we put in doesn't show on the scale, I've had gains when I know followed the program and weighed all my food out and exercised. This journey requires a whole lot of persistence. It takes years to put the weight on, it…

Just ate some Chipotle goodness, and it was still relatively low cal (albeit high in sodium). I just get a salad without dressing, with chicken, extra fajita vegs, tomato salsa and half the cheese. Even if they over do my chicken, it's not going to increase it by that much.

I love it, and it's much easier to clean the pot after it's cooked than rice (i don't own a rice cooker). Today I made a nice cold quinoa veggie chicken salad with zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, quinoa, chicken and a balsamic vinagrette dressing. Yum!

I love it, assuming it's well intentioned (really a compliment, and not a backhanded compliment). One member of my family loves to give the backhanded compliments. Like, "Good job with losing weight, it's about time you did something about it."

Sometimes I do want to give up. But I know what will happen...I'll gain it back and then some. And then what? I just balloon up to the point that I can barely walk? Or have a heart attack before I hit 50? No thanks. There is nothing left for me back in my old habits. I would rather keep counting, even though it sucks some…

If it's your first week, it's completely normal. You lose a lot of water weight the first week. Plus, it's normal to see daily fluctuations of your weight secondary to water.

Two things: 1) I went to a Giants football game in December and barely fit into my seat. 2) My knees started to hurt. I'm too young to be thinking about knee replacements. I want to be able to move and enjoy life.

Technically, she didn't gain fat. She gained water weight, aka "retaining fluid" because her heart wasn't pumping correctly and the body sensed an initial decrease in blood pressure and had the kidneys hold onto extra water to restore that blood pressure. There is a big difference between gaining fluid and gaining fat.…

Yes, but I think their point is that you still have to physically put the food in your mouth. The drug may induce carb cravings, but the pill itself is not a bunch of calories. The person taking said pill still has to eat above maintenance (wherever that may be for them). So they still have a choice in the matter.

As a fat person trying to do something about it, I concur with the folks who say that for most people, it is a choice. Probably less than 5% of folks have a true medical reason for inability to lose weight (and that number is probably an overestimation, it's probably closer to 1%). I know from experience, that I got super…

Thanks y'all! This site is so great! It's nice to meet others who are working on changing their lifestyle as well. It keeps me motivated!

Agreed! The hatred between those two fan bases is unreal!

Agree about the crockpot. I buy flank steak, or chicken breasts or chicken thighs, throw them in the crock pot with some salsa and I get protein for at least four meals. Then I steam veggies in the microwave or throw the meat on a bed of greens.

I'm not trying to say loose skin doesn't suck, because it does. But I look at it like this...would I rather have: Loose skin or not fit in an airplane seat? Loose skin or have knee problems? Loose skin or no energy? Loose skin or early death from an obesity related illness? You can hide the loose skin, you can't hide…

Thanks for the support, y'all! It's greatly appreciated!

Welcome and congrats on taking the first steps!

Most fast food (except for a few healthier salads/grilled chicken), Chinese food, cakes, cookies, candy, and I've drastically cut back on my diet coke intake.

My go to meals are: Chipotle: salad with chicken, extra fajita veggies and tomato salsa-- 260 calories ( no dressing) Chik fil a: grilled chicken sandwich and a small fruit cup--less than 400 calories Taco Bell: 3 chicken soft tacos, fresco--450 calories McDonald: egg mcmuffin or egg white delight, no hashbrown

Be glad. I always gain a few pounds of water weight.

I just had some boneless skinless thighs for dinner...cooked 'em in the crockpot with salsa, ate them over a bed of lettuce with some corn and light salsa ranch dressing. Yum!!!

I switch off between weighing myself everyday versus once a week on Sundays. I think I prefer the once a week, because the hormonal fluctuations at certain times of the month annoy me, even though I know they are only water.

I've been eating one a day as a mid afternoon snack. I eat about 1400-1500 calories a day. I wanted to increase my protein as I started resistance training. They taste pretty good and are very filling when I drink it with a big glass of water. Also, unlike fiber one bars, they don't affect my gastrointestinal tract as…

Wow, CyberEd, congrats on your weight loss. OP--Honestly, this is the post you should listen to. He's been there and understands what it is like to lose a large amount of weight. I just want to give you some encouragement. You can do this! Just keep working on it, and don't get discouraged.

I actually agree with your post ( and probably should not have quoted you). If she had stated things the way you had, I'd have not had a problem with it. But she does think a persons worth is based on their weight. And for the folks who keep bringing up tax issues--- enough. I pay school taxes when I never plan to have…

Sorry double post

As a fat person, I one hundred percent agree that my weight is unhealthy, and I am working hard to fix that. But the problem I have with the article is the fact that she seems to think that a person's worth to the world, as well as their self-worth, should be tied to their body weight, and that I vehemently disagree with.…

I second the Quest bars. They are really good, have tons of fiber and protein, aren't too bad with added sugar, and the ingredients list isn't crazy long. They are very filling as well! I ate one yesterday afternoon and had to make myself eat dinner to get my calories in.

fried and fatty foods--burgers, fries, chinese food. I try to stay away from those things now, as I can't eat them in moderation.
