Sounds like a good emergency meal to have on hand. I typically don't buy pre-made meals and just cook my own but everyone's situation is different. I'm scared to enter Trader Joe's because it becomes an issue when I see the dark chocolate covered almonds with sea salt.. >.<

^^In response to this question in particular.. In the beginning, you might have to. As everyone has said though, it becomes easier with time. You'll know what to prepare and how to nourish yourself at the same time. As for eating out, you're going to either go to strict vegan restaurants (good luck unless you live in a…

For the first 7 of my 9 years being vegan, I lived at home with my family. It wasn't easy in the beginning having to constantly explain what I wouldn't eat - both at home, at work and out at restaurants. At that time, veganism isn't nearly as mainstream as it is now. I never "fell off the bandwagon" so-to-speak (at least…

I'm 5'2" and weight in at 110-111. Appx 19% body fat, 41% muscle mass (these stats indicate 'athlete status' but I feel that there is still room for improvement). Females our height vary from the low 100's to 120 as "ideal/healthy". It's a fairly wide range. Honestly, you shouldn't worry so much about how many pounds you…

Not too sure about the "follow the advice of your Medical Doctor" - luckily, the one I have now seems supportive of a vegan diet but every diet prior was overly concerned or just confused about the vegan concept. * face palm* I'd advise to do extensive research on your own, compare and debate that info with your doctor…

I would suggest a mix of protein sources. I typically buy mine from truenutrition.com and make a blend of brown rice protein, hemp protein, pea protein, flavoring, and vitamins. One scoop varies from 21-24 grams of protein depending on how I play with the ratios.
-
Vega is a good product, there's no doubt about that. Just a bit overhyped and overpriced in my opinion. I'm currently going through a bag of SunWarrior Warrior Blend. When I'm done with it, I'm going back to my preferred standard. I use truenutrition.com to create my own custom vegan protein mixes. Flavors, sweetness,…

100 million servings to even equal one therapeutic dose of the antibiotic - it's so minuscule compared to the potential contamination of any of our foods. Either way, it's still good to know that Vega voluntarily recalled the product.

I agree with the previous suggestions (blood testing for underlying issues, vitamin D, magnesium) but also to make sure that you're fueling up on nutrient-dense foods. Sometimes the cold weather makes us turn towards comfort foods instead of fresh fruits and vegetables. Also, stay active even if you're feeling a little…

Congrats on your engagement! I got engaged last June and haven't gotten too far in the wedding planning but I know that I will have it 100% vegan. I see no reason to hide it from friends and family - if they can't not eat meat for a single meal in order to celebrate who we are as individuals, I'm not so sure I'd want them…

Not gonna beat the dead horse either and plenty of people have included vegan sources of protein already SO.. add me if you'd like. I've been a strict vegan for 8 years now so I'm pretty set on the ins and outs and you can just look at my food diary to get an idea of where I get my protein. Just for the record, I'm at 100g…

Wow, what an amazing journey! Wishing you continued success :)

Vegan eight years strong who has a love affair with kale every day ;)
-
Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone!! Seems my bank account is gonna take a hit this week.. lol
-
If I had time to cook: Tofu scramble with lots of kale mixed in Most mornings lately: Toast with hummus (sometimes with a slice of vegan fish ham on top and vegan caviar, other times with a spoonful of chili from the previous dinner) and a while later, a protein shake with added psyllium husk powder (you can add oats too).…

I occasionally have Vegenaise (vegan mayo) as a base for dip but if I have the option of coconut oil vs vegan mayo for something like toast, I go with the coconut oil. Either option is healthier than regular mayonnaise though.

Wasn't trying to argumentative at all. Just being technical because it's like comparing tempeh to natto. Fermented/unfermented products offer various nutritional benefits - just figured it should be noted.
-
Depends what it's made of.. could be chock full of fat in addition to the sodium..
-
Not quite. Bragg's is unfermented. Soy sauce is fermented.
-
Um no.. it's not low in sodium at all. I worked out the sodium content and compared it to soy sauce - it actually has 100mg more sodium than soy sauce per tablespoon.
-
The problem with teriyaki sauce is that by "lowering" the amount of soy sauce used in its ingredients, it usually has a higher sugar content which is why this may not necessarily be a "healthier" option.
-
Lo an behold - non-sodium salts! Not all salts are sodium based. Many no-salt or low salt seasonings actually use potassium-based salts. http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/salt-substitutes/
-
I personally love Bragg's Liquid Aminos but if the OP wants to reduce intake of sodium, she's not going to find it with this product unfortunately. Regular soy sauce has about 864mg of sodium per tablespoon. Bragg's has about 960mg per tablespoon.
-
I was thinking the same but if your concern is the sodium content, I would try flavoring up your food with herbs and spices instead. Also, depending on the dish, try adding different ingredients to change up the flavor. If you're having rice, add some beans; if you're steaming vegetables, add some garlic.
-
It's not really hidden if it's all stated on the labels - that's why it's important to read them :)
-
- Kale/collards - Apples - Quinoa - Chia seeds/flax seeds - Beans The daily stuff the complements above: Water, pea/hemp/brown rice protein, green/oolong whole leaf teas In moderation: Vegan chocolate, avocado

Pubic mound. Hurt more than my leg scarification piece -.-

I haven't tried the Vega products for two reasons -- Firstly, I have appx. 4-5 lbs of custom vegan protein shake powder at home already (and in various flavors!) and secondly, Vega is pretty pricey. I'm happy with my protein shakes though. They're tailored to the nutritional profile I was looking for and I like the flavors…

My daily MFP goal shoots for 94g of protein each day based on the way I broke down my macros. On workout days, I regularly hit (and often exceed) that amount - add me if you'd like to peruse through my food diary. I usually do have one protein shake a day (two if I workout in the evening) which shoots my protein up to ~60g…
