Two days a week would be awesome to start. You could also throw some core work in right after one of your runs which will help you build that up. Core is very important in the later miles since you will be tired and will need the strength to hold yourself up and that is where your core comes in.

I lift weights for about an hour or so then run 5 miles. I have some long runs that burn up that without the lift so like 70 to 90 minute runs at about an 8:00 to 8:30 pace

Yeah what business does logic have in a discussion. Stupid logic.

Yes I have been to a food pantry when I was growing up. We had junk, crap food all the time in the house. Somehow I didn't gain weight until After I was out of the Marine Corp and out on my own. Just because you are poor does not mean you will be fat. The argument was that being poor limits your choices on what to eat and…

Walking one mile burns what like 100 calories??? so two miles there and two miles back would be like 4 so 400 calories. Take your kids with you and they will burn the same and then you can eat your McDonalds and not gain weight. I don't see how McDonalds being the only choice within walking distance of your house at 6PM at…

Exactly. Being poor is not an excuse to be obese. Should actually detract from obesity since you don't have the money to buy food.

You do realize there are places in the world where you have to hunt your own food and if you do not get it then you go hungry that day right. People cover extraordinary distances to get food. You said something about 5 miles to the grocery store in an eralier post being far away. Really it comes down to the perspective of…

Single Dad here and I cook almost every night for my kids and still find time to train for Marathons or whatever other silly task I chose to indulge myself in. I get what I feel is plenty of time with my kids and somehow find time to keep myself healthy and feed my kids healthy food. I get up at 5 AM every morning and I am…

I blame Grimmus. He looks an awful lot like that EVIL Dinosaur Barney and anyone that is purple and big and dopey sounding is obviously the culprit

I agree with you on some points you have made but not all Yeah but he was able to get the info in that movie granted it took him a while but he did get it. I am also sure that McDonald's had a website back then as well that more than likely had the information. It is not your responsibility to look out for me though. It is…

Completely and whole heatedly agree. My kids made it to 5 and 3 with the same eat it or go away form the table hungry and neither of them are dead. I had the same choice as a kid. And learning to cook is as easy as pulling up the internet. BTW it is usually cheaper to cook a meal at home then it is to go out and order food.

The point is the information is already out their. I am not saying that I wanted to start an argument about who's responsibility it is to educate yourself I said an argument could be made that it is each individuals responsibility. Personally when I have a question about something I go and try and find answers in some way…

If you are busy and want lunch Buy a salad from a grocery store or something. Go to subway. You have choices you can make even in a busy day. I am a single parent...trust me I understand busy days. If I stop for fast food I ensure I pick what fits within what I am allowed to eat for the day. Fast food places are now…

Nobody forces you to eat fast food. Just saying

I use a Garmin forerunner but I upload to runkeeper. If I forget my watch Runkeeper is my go to.

Just keeping trying and know that the more you move around the easier it will eventually become to do so. I started off running again a couple years back not being able to cover a mile and now I run Marathons. You can do this :)

There are a ton of reasons why your knee might be hurting. 1) If you are only running and not doing any other leg type strength training than you are only working a limited amount of the muscles available in the legs. This can cause an imbalance in the way your muscles are pulling on the joints and cause pain. I have had…

I am a runner and a lifter. I continually train in a way to be able to run a half marathon at anytime and once a year I train for a marathon as well. I am currently training to speed up my 5K but I average around 25 to 30 miles a week.

I prefer strength training and swimming. I think anything that would help build your core and work different muscles than are normally worked on your runs will do you good. If nothing else use that day to try new stuff and keep interested in fitness. Who knows you might find something else you like.

You can use those scales that read BF% and they have hand held monitors as well. The calipers can be accurate but you run into people not knowing how to use them properly and or miscalculations in the formulas used to get your totals. There are all kinds of high tech ways like ultra sonic mumbo jumbo, water displacement…

These are exactly the reasons that I myself want to become a personal trainer. There is so much misleading information out there and so many people that believe it and thus fail and get discouraged that there is a need for real trainers and life coaches to be around. If anything, the positive you get out of this is…

Yeah sorry man. My Belly fat is going away and I don't stay away from certain foods to get that to happen. I exercise, eat to fuel that exercise and I indulge every so often. There is no such thing as a specific food to stay away from to make your belly fat go away just good hard work. If you want to go against anything…

Yeah. I can get into a groove sometimes and literally run for a few hours. If you are really liking running and are also into nature and outdoors stuff, find a good trail to run on. It will work so many more muscles, is usually a little easier on the joints, throws some diversity into your routine, and is just amazing to…

It is not super uncommon for toenails to take a beating when it comes to running especially if you are doing significant amounts of mileage per week. My big toenails haven't split in half but they do tend to be more brittle now then they were before I started running. I would make sure you get fitted for a good pair of…
