  • Note that the A1C test is basically an average of your blood glucose over the last three months. So it is not an average over the last 2 years. I would discuss with your DR as Lynn suggests. Weather you are diabetic, pre-diabetic, or non-diabetic it is wise to eat more healthy like you have been doing; for the rest of your…
  • I wasnt on BP meds, but my BP was on the high side, very close to be prescribing meds. Lost the 48 lbs and now my BP is consistently in the normal zone. Definitely mention this to your Doc. Could be some thing else, but you may be on the right track.
  • Welcome to the club nobody wants to belong to! When I was initial diagnosed I was frustrated, scared, confused, and overwhelmed. It is a lot to take in. But I have to tell you that since being diagnosed I have not been this healthy in 25 years! I have lost 50 lbs, gotten my eating habits in a healthy mode, started…
  • I started at about 260lbs and could only run for about 30 seconds. So I walked for a couple months to build up strength. Then I was able to start the C25K program. I am mid way through it and can now run 5 minutes intervals. (run for 5, walk for 3...) The program builds slowly adding run time each week. I plan to run a 5K…
  • I had a friend who had the Band and they lost a lot weight very quickly then put it all back on and more after the band failed. NOw they are stuck with a huge expense to have it removed and is causing stomach problems. Its an over simplification, but all the band really does is make you eat less. The same thing can be done…
  • If you create a free account with Garmin Connect (you dont have to have a watch to make an account), they have 5K training plans to explore. They have 5K Level 1, 2 and 3. That way you can pick a plan that suits your fitness level.
  • Im in 100% agreement with scubasuenc. Well said. While this article did have useful information to distribute, it is unfortunate and sad they they resort to misleading terminology to get people to read it. Diabetes is currently not curable, cannot go into remission and is not reversible. While the dietary advise is useful…
  • Being Diagnosed with Diabetes is the catalyst for my motivation for weight loss. Ironically, since being diagnosed with this chronic disease I have never felt healthier! To start I was not even attempting to lose weight, after attending nutrition classes to help control my Glucose I just started eating right and the weight…
  • Fabulous!
  • Yea; I loath headphones in my ears. I only use them now so I can here Endomondo telling me when to run/walk and what my pace is. But with the watch I could just glance at it. Cant wait to ditch the phone and headphones (assuming my Birthday wish comes true :) In the research I did, most reviewers agree the gps watches are…
  • Thanks, but I want to carry less; not more! I put the watch on my Bday wish list (which is end of this month) . Lets see what happens :)
  • I use endomondo currently. I like it, just dont like carrying a phone. Considering switching to a garmin gps watch.
  • You know there is a HRM that integrates with the 220 so you could ditch the iphone. Also that way your HR data would be in one place with your run data in Garmin Connect. Also, Garmin connect has its own C25K training program you can download into the watch so you have everything in one place.
  • You are doing better than I dod when I Started. I couldnt do week 1 of c25k so I just walked for a couple months. Now Im half way through C25K. You are doing well.
  • I know what you mean. Right after a run I feel the best and often think; lets do that again! But I tried running back to back days trying to "get ahead" and my knees did not like it. I now respect the rest days and my knees are very happy that I do. :)
  • There are 2 or 3 GPS watches out now that have optical heart rate monitor built into the watch. With these there is no need for a chest belt. These watches do not estimate your HR with accelerameter; they measure your blood flow with an optical signal so they provide continous data just like the chest strap type. When they…
  • Any of the activity trackers have walking challenges (ie fitbit, jawbone up, nike fuel band, etc...) They very simply count your steps then upload your daily step count to their tracking website where it shows you your stats. There are many goals or challenges you can set that typically revolve around doinf xxx steps a…
  • I tried juicing and yea; lost 10 lbs real fast. Problem is, juicing is not sustainable. You cant live off low calorie high carb liquefied veggies forever. So as soon as i stopped the weight came back. Don't do any food plan that is temporary in nature. We all need to eat and exercise properly every day for the rest of our…
  • Wendy's Strawberry field salad. Just had one yesterday. 10 carbs 550 calories and delicious.
  • Jesslla; Excellent idea. Let us know your progress. I also could not start the C25K program when I "started". So like you I just planned to walk for a month or so until I could complete week 1 of the C25K. I look at running similar to the way I look at my weight loss. I would rather go slow and somewhat steady, than become…
  • Got through Week 5 of 14. Feeling much stronger now...
  • Everyone is different. The 45 15 45 bit works very well for me. My Dr has taken me off Metformin my A1C went from 9.2 to 5.0. So the "old bit" works well for some of us.
  • Im curious; why Endomondo And Strava? I use Endomondo myself; curious if there are better apps.
  • M / 52 / 5' 10" [ 288 > 243 - 45] ( 6 months )
  • Just my phone and wireless headphones. Carrying a water bottle would be so annoying to me. Its only 30-45 minutes!
  • Congrats on your success! To make the pictures show up correctly here, reduce them in size to a max of 640px wide.
  • Ive been lurking in this thread for a while and getting a lot of inspiration. My first post here. I started C25K in May 2014 and could not get through day one. I was exhausted after 20 seconds of running. So I "punted" and just walked for a month, quicking my walking pace and distance each day. Then I restarted C25K in…
  • I'm afraid it is not a myth. Diabetes can not be cured as of today's medical and nutritional knowledge. You may control symptoms and complications through diet and exercise, but you will not be cured. To test this; just eat a pan of brownies and watch your BG shoot up. This does not happen if you don't have diabetes. I am…
  • I am doing well at 120 carbs a day. Eating 30 or less would be really tough; though I know people do it. If you eat that few carbs you have to eat a lot of fat to get enough energy.
