  • No, I have no problem with those terms.I agree. I have a problem with the term cure, as that is not true, but folks selling books use the term cure anyeay.
  • I'd rather give up eating whole pizzas than having my feet chopped off.
  • Im late to the party but.... Wow; congratulations. I hope to do the same thing. This is inspiring.
  • Totally Agree with this. There may be a reversal based on lifestyle and diet, but it is not a cure for the reasons shincrazy explained so well.
  • I am back to logging food, which helps keep myself honest. Its simple, but so helpful.
  • Thanks. Even after 2 days of eating better, I feel a bit better.
  • Was away a while. Came back and found everything all new!
  • I was diagnosed at 52. But probably had it for a year maybe 2. As bizarre as this might sound, I have never been healthier since being diagnosed with a chronic disease. It has been a wake up call to eat healthy and exercise. I feel better than I have in years. All of us have been there. The first weeks can be very…
  • hrms are helpful at calculating calories burned for sustained cardio workouts but no so much for resistance training.
  • Its important especially for longer distances. For short activities you will likely have enough stored energy. Its basically to make sure you energy reserves are not depleted before starting an endurance activity.
  • If you want something that will track steps by accelarameter and running/bking via gps; check out the Garmin forerunner 15 http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/06/garmin-forerunner-15-depth-review.html
  • Seems pretty useless to me. It has to be paired with an iphone to be useful at all. If you are running/working out with your iphone strapped to you then the iphone can track everything for you. How is the watch helping? A watch would be helpful if it wasn't dependent on being linked to a phone. And there are such things;…
  • I use endomondo also. It takes a guess, just like every other gadget on calories burned. No gadgets are 100% accurate. My gut tells me 2000 calories burned in 60-90 minutes is high, but maybe you are really kicking it! As a sanity check; here is an online calculator for biking. May be interesting to see how it compares to…
  • If you reset your "Goals" in MFP and play with changing your activity level, you will see how many calories it assumes you will burn for each activity level; and how it adjusts the calories you need to eat accordingly. This helps give you a ballpark number for calorie intake for weight loss but it assumes a pretty…
  • Congratulations! I bet you have fun buying new clothes:)
  • Just ran my first 5K today at 53 years old! If you start at the beginning of this thread you will see I started this 5K training in April of 2014. The first time I tried, I failed to complete week 1. I simply could not run more than 20 seconds at a time before I was exhausted. Short version: I punted and walked for two…
  • Welcome to the forum. I dont know if its possible to give you a precise answer, but a general one. Different foods metabolize at different rates. For example, a banana may be converted to glucose faster than a a stalk of broccoli. And, it seems every person is unique in that different foods affect BG a bit differently for…
  • Congrats! My first 5K is this weekend. Hoping to make it through without walking.
  • Amazing. You have inspired me to keep going. Congratulations!
  • It was one time, just get back on the wagon.
  • I run sometimes on asphalt roads, and sometimes at a high school rubber track (recycled tire materiel) I can definitely feel a difference in my knees and hips. When I run on roads, my knees and hips are sore for a couple days. When I run on the track they are tired but not sore. SO I run on the track as much as possible…
  • Depends how you exercise. If you walk; activity trackers are good (like fitbit, vivofit, ....) If you run or cycle, gps watches and HRM are very helpful For resistance training, gadgets are not that helpful. IMO
  • First; Welcome! Every person is different so its not possible to do cookie cutter answers that work the same for everyone. You are very wise to start testing and recording your BG. Knowing how your body reacts to food and lifestyle is important for your ongoing management of Diabetes. Higher BG in the morning or after…
  • Fitbit is useful if you main exercise is walking. It does not track anything other than the number of steps you take. If walking is your thing, it can help motivate you by letting you know how many or how few steps you take each day.
  • You can sync the fitbit with the website 2 ways: 1. Via smartphone which in turn syncs with the fitbit website (See website for compatible smartphones) 2. Via PC or MAC with the included USB Bluetooth dongle. This requires pc or mac sw to do the sync which will not officially work on Ubuntu. That said; a 3rd party unix…
  • Fitbits are not waterproof. They say they can be worn in showers but not recommended for swimming. They are not useful for swimming anyway. They are a pedometer and cannot track swimming activities correctly even if they were waterproof.
  • I took one of the standard C25K programs and stretched it from 9 weeks to 14 weeks. The first few weeks I ran 3 days a week for 30 minutes each time. Later it increased to 4 days a week and later increased from 30 minutes to 45 minutes each session. Rest Days are very important. Just as important as the Running days.…
  • Congrats! I had a similar experience; started C25K and could not do week 1. So I walked for 2 months and restarted it and like you was able to do it the second time. Im now up to running 20 minutes which seemed impossible when I started. Take it slow and if you have to repeat a week; do it. The key is to progress slowly…
  • A bit more progress. I ran 23 minutes continuous today - the longest I think I've ever run in my life. 2 Weeks until my scheduled 5K race. I hope to get a 30 minute run in next week. AT my current pace the actual 5K will require about 37 minutes of running. Getting close.
  • My Doc told me that consistent exercise is one of the best medicines he can prescribe for cholesterol management. Just few are willing to take the correct dosage. Tiredness is one of the symptoms of high BG. What is your BG before and after meals?
