I've tried slim fast in the past and it really didn't work for me. I was completely unsatisfied and ended up giving up within a day or two. I like the taste, but it just wasn't food. This was back when I was young and never had more than 5-10 pounds to lose. I never stuck with it long enough to ever hit my goal (often…

Not sure what blue goose is. But that entry specifies "baked" do you buy it already prepared or do you have a raw breast that you will bake yourself? If you are making it yourself I would build it in the recipe builder with the raw chicken breast option using the pre-cooked weight. If you purchased it already prepared than…

I'm too rebellious to stick to an all or nothing approach. Moderation is the only thing that has kept me going. If the eating out occasion is for a special reason, a treat, a party then I don't sweat it. I try to get a rough idea of how much I ate after the fact but I eat what I want. Usually I know these things are coming…

http://www.acsm.org/about-acsm/media-room/news-releases/2011/09/01/vigorous-exercise-burns-calories-for-14-hours-after-exercise This article shows the after burn effect of 45 minutes of intense cardio in a controlled study lasted 14 hours. So heavy weights may not necessarily be the only type of work out to cause after…

Good point. That is one thing I am a little worried about. I tend to be less active in the winter and I need to make sure I adjust my calories to reflect that.

Yes, I guess it would depend on how much you have to lose if it is a good idea or not. I have always been a believer of eating as much as you can while still being able to lose weight--because deprivation has never worked for me. I'm just thinking that since my old "set point weight" for many years has been 155, that means…

If it is just a run of the mill, eat on the fly eating out situation, I will google something similar and make smart choices based on what I have learned in my logging, weighing, measuring experiences. If it is a special occasion I will just make the best guess I can and enjoy my meal. I will eat less and exercise more the…

Ok, thanks for the advice. I think next week I will not worry so much about eating at a deficit and focus more on getting in the necessary protein--and I will start NROLFW next week. Do you think I should stick to my 40:30:30 goal? My biggest problem with protein is the expense--protein powders are expensive, meat is…

great idea. I didn't even think of that. Thanks.

This is the one thing that I don't like about MFP. It gives 1200 as a goal which makes you think you want to stay below it. That big red negative number when you go over makes it look like eating more than that was a bad thing. Some days I take a day off from cardio so it doesn't give me those buffer fitness calories to…

Not at all. I use more of a weekly average guideline. Some days I'm over, sometimes under, sometimes right on target but I keep track and check my daily average. I think prolonged low calorie days could mess with your metabolism and health but I low day here and there is not an issue. Eta I am talking about gross calories…

I think it depends on what kind of support you need. Weight Watchers offers a plan for you to follow that can be helpful if you are having trouble getting stared and need a little more hand holding. I always lost weight when I did WW, but meetings and such wasn't for me. When they started the online program I had the most…

I also notice a 2 day delay for both losses and gains. When I over do it one day (especially if it was a day where I drank alcohol) the scale shows me my consequence two days/ later just like when I have an extreme low calorie day.

This is the answer to what I hAve been trying to figure out all along. My assumption is that our bodies are doing this all day long. Using up whatever is readily available first, and storing whatever is left over, then tapping into those stores when needed. So at any given moment our bodies are using energy and storing…

Something I learned the hard way. Keeping a mental running record does not work when it comes to weight loss or money management. I know it is time consuming and tedious, especially in the beginning, but just being aware of calories before and while you are consuming them, and being able to look it over after you consumed…

Thanks for your replies. Sounds like it is the smith machine. I realized the bar was only 20 lbs so I put on enough weights to get it up to 45. I have my membership for a year, and honestly I can't afford the typical rates of other gyms. Do you think it is better to just do a modified program using dumbbells than to use…

It takes a real man to admit that. :) I still have trouble being a real man--but then again, I'm a woman so maybe that's ok.

Oh, and I agree with the stretching AFTER not BEFORE. Static stretching can cause injury if you aren't warmed up. That's why it should be part of your cool down, not warm up. If you want to loosen up your muscles before your work out you can do movements to loosen them up (dynamic stretching I think it is called). Here is…

Try slowing down during the jogging times--and when you think you can't run anymore just slow down your pace but keep jogging. When I first started C25K I would listen to fast dance music and I noticed it was causing me to run too fast which would wear me out faster. When I switched to listening to podcasts it kept me at a…
